When reading through the posts I often see references like "BW lied to us, because X, Y, Z is not like they promised it would be" and I always feel a bit lost.

True, I haven't gone over each and every single interview, post and video upload they'd done pre-release with a magnifying glass, but when it comes to DAI, I don't see any huge inconsistencies between the info we got and the game. (Haven't finished my first playthrough yet, but I'm 103 hours in.) I am curious, however, what you spotted.

Please keep it objective and far away from "DAI isn't DAO or DA2".

One of the biggest issues people seem to have is the Crestwood attack (shown in the E3 demo last year).

Also, keep management was significantly toned down.

Nevertheless, I don't find this to be a problem. Things do change during development.

Gamers tend to be terrible consumers. Also whiney.

There was some cut content, but that's not really lying to us. Almost all games have cut content, you just don't know about it in most cases. More than just Crestwood or Keep Management got cut down.

There are also people calling BioWare liars over the statement about it being "made by PC gamers for PC first" because things like the tactical camera appeared to be designed with a controller in mind rather than a keyboard and mouse.

It's the internet. ME1 cut the entire gameplay and replaced it with something else, but that was 2006 and no one really noticed. ME1 used to have a tactical camera and full party control.

The Crestwood attack was demo'd behind closed doors, a year ahead of release.

The youtube videos were filmed on mobile phones behind people's heads.

You can see elements that didn't make it:

  • Destructible environments
  • Timed missions
  • Agents as a resource type
  • Chanters Boards

Sometimes things don't make it, to ensure that other elements do.

Some of the above may appear in DA4.

There is no basis for taking issue with BioWare for prototype game elements that were not promised.

Some parts of the environments are destructible - various wooden things. Though it is fairly limited to props like barrels, crates, wagons and such.

Except EA showed that same quest later last year at a local game con I attended as an official public game demo.

Nevertheless, as I said above, I am quite OK with these types of changes.

They showcased interupts in a Mass Effect 1 demo reel (I couldn't find the full demo, but the move is here : https://m.youtube.co...h?v=jL4tWbW9cCE). This type of moves only made it to the final game in ME2. It happens.

I can't speak to what EA shows but I'm pretty sure the Crestwood questline was just a vertical slice which comes out of the early design phase.

The problem is the modern marketing machine requires developers to pimp out their games before they even know what they're selling. It's social-media-hype-viral generating or something.

Yeah but if you don't preorder there's nothing you can't find out about a game very easily. Its like buying a car without a test drive because the dealer threw in a free ice scrapper.
