That's one thing that bugs me, hopefully someone can answer.

Frostbite being owned by DICE means Bioware doesn't pay licensing at all, or do they pay for it anyway with the project's budget?
Because if they don't, what about DICE's revenue? I mean for their annual balance report or something?

Hrm?

They both fall under EA chances are developing the engine went against ea's total r@d budget. If I remember right they took a bath one quarter a couple years ago due to r@d.

A lot of this is just legal busywork and depends on the corporate form. That is, is Bioware a separate corporation that EA owns 100% of the shares in or is it just a development studio? Same with Dice.

It's also one of the points that are overlooked when guessing how profitable DAI is to EA. How much is it costing for the adapting of FB for DAI, when factoring the work done is work that will not have to be done for the next ME, and how much credit (financially) is DAI getting for pushing the tools BW created to modify FB back to Dice? Other studios can/will benefit from those tools.

Another reason why there isn't enough insight to say how profitablel DAI is going to be.

Also (and I think I'm repeating myself, but--) FB is an excellent engine, and I think EA using it for all their studios is a great idea. The studios should then be able to have a greater focus on content, and can share tools (and other engine related assets).

Really, a Battlefield game with a great story, thanks to the tools BW added to FB, how could that not be a good thing?

Some if the things in bf it does are just jaw dropping. Same with da really if you look at how everything is actually layered and has depth to it.

I played a little cod on its free weekend and it's just mind blowing how far behind bf it is in every way. Maybe next time they won't completely butcher it's launch lol.

Count me as another person disappointed in the lack of easy modding. Part of why I'm a PC gamer (as opposed to playing via console) is for the mods. I am really sad that the one mod I really, really want I will probably never be able to get (mostly because I find the game too easy from a resource-management level and want a mod to cut my XP and Power awards by at least half).

Is the lack of dynamic weather/lighting and the wet indoors confirmed as being engine caused or is it just informed speculation on your part. I'm genuinely curious and mean no disrespect by that question :) .

Well it does have dynamic lighting and shadows, like every game since... well... a long time now. The 'global lightsource' is static though in DA:I, but I for one thing can't imagine it's because of an engine limitation.

At least I don't get the feeling a day goes by in just an hour or so, just like the countries in DA appear to be much larger than only 40 square miles or something
