Someone found a bunch of audio which seems to suggest that there was originally more to the final battle than what we ended up with:

(All audio after 01.05 is in-game post battle stuff).

Sounds like demons were supposed to pour out of the breach as Corypheus reopened it.

Aye. I think there was a trailer where they show the Inquisitor and his companions fighting a bunch of demons near what looked like the ruins of the temple. Maybe something like that was going to be included. I'll see if I can find the trailer.

Edit:Here it is. Around the 40 second mark.

Yeah, the final battle definitely feels cut short and rushed. I guess it's to much to hope for any of this to be added in post release, though.

I thought that one was a CGI trailer cos Varric and Vivienne look quite a bit different to their in-game versions? Still, if that was from in-game or was supposed to represent in-game scenes then that would explain a lot, lol.

The devs keep saying that patching cut content in is really difficult to do, so I'm not gonna get my hopes up. Still, it's good to know what was originally planned for it, even if it didn't end up staying in the game.

Oh lol. Of course it's a CGI trailer.

It just shows the Inquisitor and the party fighting demons and the red lyrium dragon on top of the Sacred Ashes Temple so it looks kinda like the end of the game. Except I don't remember there being that many demons when you go face him. Just kill the dragon and then Corypheus.

There's a handful of shades and such, but they have the same level of danger as a swarm of gnats.  And are about as easy to kill.

Yeah, no demons at all just the cutscenes and then the fight(s) with Corypheus and the dragon.

Oh yeah, the ones that Corypheus summons, I forgot about those. Still, no hoards of them pouring out of the breach or anything like the audio suggest.

Companions comments imply that you must go solo fight cory "up there". Maybe in fade. If cory was supposed to be killed there, this may be the reason why inquisitor stupidly sent him to the fade with his mark in the ending. To match cutted content.

Inquisitor opens a rift inside Corypheus. He's ripped to shreds, not to mention the brain damage from having a bowling ball slammed across his skull.

Aren't there scenes in Enemy of Thedas that looked like the final fight but never made it into the game e.g. Sera and Blackwall fighting demons by themselves? Maybe they were in the game and my memory is bad :pinched:

It does sound like the Inquisitor was supposed to fight him one on one at some point, doesn't it. I wonder if there's more audio content for it?

A lot was cut. We can only mourn the lost potential now.

They appear, at least animation-wise, during the final mission, only they happen to Inquisition-soldiers.

Patching Cut content maybe hard, but then again, we did get Extended Cut afterall.

It was a different engine for ME3 though... well, that and the ME3 ending caused a giant sh*tstorm, lol.

I have to say, having finished the game today, while on the whole I enjoyed DA:I and got my money's worth out of it, the final battle is not even lackluster, it seems incomplete.

For example, when the (new) Breach appeared, it was jarring only because of 'convenience' what with my armies still at Arbor Wilds (yet there are dozens of men and women in armor in Skyhold just milling about), but that's fine and all, I'm not expecting complete continuity at this point.

However, where exactly was this? It's close enough to Skyhold apparently that they can see it, and there's a castle that Coryfish floats, but...how did the Inquisitor and company get there? Also, get there without any fighting?

All my companions were with me at the end, so besides the people I brought into the fight itself Cass, Dorian, Varric (which I should note only Cassandra only said anything during the entire fight, which was strange, maybe a bug?), what were the rest of my group doing?

Finally when Coryfish gets killed/sent into the Fade...was that...it? The connection between him and the dragon, I thought he'd at least...acknowledge the dragon died/he's briefly mortal? Anything really other than a smack and a death sequence really.

Coryfish I thought could have been a very deeply characterized villain (A type of Lazarus), and while evil, had some type of ending dialogue that could make the story deeper a bit more, but he kind of just despawned really.

I agree with everything you posted, I felt exactly the same way. I also questioned where the heck the final battle took place, there wasn't even a cutscene showing my other companions fighting or anything....for  all I know they coulda been chillin at Skyhold while I beat Corypheus. Cory was a cool character at first but he was just too stereotypically villain-y. His awful one liners masked the fact he could have been used as a potential clue to Solas' plans.

The ending scenes were also pretty meh...the team never felt like a team, the only time you get to see your crew interacting with each other is when they're all playing Wicked Grace (save for Viv and Solas). And Skyhold is still in shambles when you end the game. The upgrades do nothing you'll notice.

I was wondering why we never got to say goodbye to everyone before the final boss like with did in origins and da2

The breach is reopened for the final battle, which means it's in the same place as it was the first time: the site where the Temple of sacred ashes used to stand, the bits of building he rose up off the floor was what was left of the sacred ashes temple... or at least, that's how it seemed anyway.

From what I can tell, those scenes between the Arbor Wilds and the final battle where you go talk to your companions in the Skyhold were supposed to serve as our final goodbyes... felt disjointed, didn't it lol.

I dunno why but I could swear I heard these comments at 1:05 in my game.

It's a shame they cut it out! It's exactly what I wanted because that segment was far too short (companion presence and killing corypheus).

The ones from 1:05 onwards are still in-game. It's the ones prior to 1:05 that were cut, lol.

Yeah, I missed this too. The Final Battles in the other games felt way more important than DAI's final battle. In DAO, you knew someone was going to die if you didn't perform the ritual. In DA2, you may have had to fight your own companions and kill them permanently. It was a good ending, actually.

But DAi... Nah, I didn't feel threatened. Cory appears, open the breach again, and then we deal with him. I mean, what was his plan even?!
