Having issues with threat

There are occassions (and it happens quite often), where my Legionnaire is unable to take threat away from enemies who seem dead-set on taking out others in my party. The strange thing is, party member have not even done a single thing to generate threat. Even with warcry. It doesn't draw enemies' attention 100% when successfully taunted.

On a similar note, what annoys me a lot is when I trudge through the zone solo, while some members are still loading at the start, some enemies will just blatantly ignore me and go after the others at the starting area :(

Can anyone clarify how this threat works? Because it almost seems like the more I hit enemies, the less threatening I become. Which is just ridiculous.

Dorje Sylas gave a lot of insight about enemy AI in this thread.

Snippet

There are clearly things wrong with the routines driving the "threat" system when it sends freshly spawned units clear across the map at an inactive player. If I had to take a guess its over weighting on the "distance" of the "back rank". The freshly spawned rogue is "behind" (relative to global path lines) the closets target, likely has a higher DPS weapon, and is "away" from "allies". Depending how the weighting is setup this may be a larger "threat" target than the Warrior who's actively attacking.

And imo I've played a lot of this game... and the AI is still unpredictable to me. Lots of people say this makes the AI bad or dumb, but if I can't predict it, then it meets my most important criterion of smart, even if the AI is often ineffective :P.

Joining a GiP seems to generate massive threat - I've witnessed e.g. spiders coming directly for me on these occasions.

Animals can also break off their fights with enemy troops once you get a "bit close". Maybe they pick up the scent? Giants do it, too. And if they do they drag along the enemy faction forces usually, too.

Bioware is all about real life immersion.  So they have AI ignore tanks and b-line towards the squishies and even the AFKs for that EZ free frags.  Pretty next level AI programming if you ask me.

Threat? who say its threat in this game:

SP: all trash target main character

MP: all trash target the most far and AFK character ignoring tanking in front line.

Thank god I'm not the only one.

So this essentially means passive skills that reduce/increase threat (eg. Legionnaire's Biggest Threat) is rendered useless becuase of state-of-the-art AI mechanics.

Looks like it. I can only seem to draw threat from Counterstrike and War Cry. Nothing else seems to do anything

I've opened a Revenant chest with a Lego only to have him run two rooms over to attack an archer, after I've warcry'd him. I understand they want backline folks to generate threat, but ignoring the only guy attacking you to fight someone out of your line of sight is ridiculous.

All I know is when I play my Archer I get aggro like a motherf***er.  When I play my Hunter, I have to solo in order to get aggro.

See, it goes both ways to me:

When Brute or Pride Demons have guard up, Warcry triggers an "Immune" pop-up, meaning I assume they are immune to taunts. They act like it, too, making a line straight for the archers.

However, when I play my Assassin with the Easy To Miss passive, I have literally meatgrinded a Venatori Zealot from behind while he stood there like a log (no one else had drawn threat from him, so he stayed in place).

Could just be BioWare not explaining their mechanics properly again for the Nth game in a row (what the heck is a harmonic combo!?), but personally it feels flat out unintuitive at best.

I remember one game specifically where I stealth, waited behind a pillar, then attacked after the Lego WarCry'd. Only, as soon as I move around the pillar, I take one of those super arrows to the face and am oneshotted.
