I thought Dwarf Noble was the popular one, the natural leader that everyone liked and wanted to be King/Queen.

Why did everyone, even Frandlin Ivo, suddenly pick that loser Bhelen over you?

Bribery, blackmail, and coercion.

Seems to be more than that upon your return to Orzammar.

Part of it is that the dwarven Noble has proven that they are quite frankly not as fit for rule in Orzammar politics as everyone thought as they played right into Bhelen's hand and/or choose to murder their brother without being smart enough to get away with it.

Maybe because his actions clearly proved that he was anything but a loser.

Bhelen proved his aptitude at strategy and brokering alliances. When he moved against his siblings, the Dwarf Noble either didn't see it coming or simply couldn't do anything about it. Since he clearly outplayed everyone else, the smart move for most nobles and deshyrs was to pick his side. Moreover, he actually makes a pretty good ruler (by dwarven standards) once he is in power, despite his initial ruthlessness to acquire said power.

Trian was merely a good soldier; the Dwarf Noble was popular and publicly influential, but it was Bhelen who had the best understanding of shadowy dwarven politics, and who developed the necessary skills to acquire and maintain power.

I always wondered how long Trian or the Dwarf Noble could have held power in Orzammar anyway. If they both fell to their brother's trick, what would they have done against an entire assembly of professional scheming nobles?

Pfft it was dwarf noble's plan to get exiled and adopted by wardens to then come back find the anvil and kill bhelen. Dwarf noble is a master politician.
But in all seriousness I just head cannon my noble always getting along with bhelen and trusting him, while being good against others.
