Huh...?

A Garand in the 15-20 grand range? Wooow... All I could find is around 28 G's, hopelessly sold out. Man, if I had the opportunity, I'd curse the lack of funds. As it is, I'll probably have to settle for airsoft replicas. Nowhere near as cool. Those things don't PING!

Ping and history pretty much 90% why I want one.

No, but I plan on it.  I want a Garand and I don't feel like dropping $900!

I heard rumors that they might be getting old 1911's, too.

Yeah so I pay $25 bucks to shoot at the range near my home it's open to the public so I have no incentive to join and pay dues.

Would I not be able to purchase through this government program because I'm not a member of a certified gun club?

Join the Army and do be in a Color Guard unit. They're armed with M1's. I think one unit even has them fully functional and has to keep them in operative condition.

Plebs. You have to pay to use a range.

I get paid to use one. I get paid to book one. And if I still had command of my previous unit, I'd have to pay for when some idiot lost half his TA-50.

Right. I'm being all historian-like here, and people just decide to be friggin' creepy.

I wonder if I'm coming back to this thread.

Yeah... I'd go for a Thompson, too. Or a Carbine... or hell, anything. Finding ammunition for the Carbine might be an issue, though.

I mean, the Garand would probably munch on modern 7.62x51 NATO, even though I'm not entirely sure. The Thompson just eats .45 ACP...

Not to be, for some time.

Not that easy. I'm not American, you see (that's why I said a Garand costs around 28,000 - I'm talking CZK)...

It might be possible, I don't know. It's pretty unlikely, though.

Heck, Garands don't seem too common around here. Want a Vz 58, though? Well, please do pick from one of the couple dozen thousands of available assault rifles!

Last I heard, you could get one for five grand. Minimal paycheck is around nine, average somewhere between 15-20.

What's your nationality if I may ask? I could probably tell you if we export to your country or not, or where to find a better deal from another market.

Tolerance level: Over 9000

So what was it? Homoo Sapiens, Erectuus or Neanderthalus?

Oh, I'm fairly sure you do. We're using Humvees and M4s (every now and then) and could've had some ... Block II, I think? F-16s from you.

It's Czech Republic. I'd be more likely to believe that the problem is in the fact that the market isn't very interested in the M1 rifles.

I'm pretty sure you have to be a member of a non-NRA gun club in order to get things through the CMP.

Here's an organization that's CMP eligible, and is only $30 a year. It's Illinois based, but as far as I know, you can still be a member and order form the CMP regardless of where you live.

$30 a year is nothing, considering it allows you to have an affordable M1 Garand shipped directly to your door. The CMP is exempted from FFL stuff too, so you don't even need a C&R license.  How cool is that?

There is a market in the US for sure. The way it was explained to me was that because of the Civilian Marksmanship Program or CMP there isn't a market for reproduction M1's because the government sells them so cheap. Problem I'm running into is I'm not part of an affiliated gun club of the CMP so I can't purchase through the program.  Pain in the neck really. Looking through private sellers of these guns I've found the price to be 3 times the CMP price, and they'll tell you it's a field model CMP rifle.  Basically they paid $650 for it and will sell it to me for $1500.00   If anyone can find a reproduction M1 Garand with the 30-06 en-block cartridge type for a reasonable price ($650 - $900) I'm interested.

So just $30 bucks a year and I can order my M1 Garand?  This sounds to good to be true :wizard:   Will definitely check out thanks.

You know, sometimes it feels outright preposterous how such tiny, almost funny looking things can kill you.

I mean, there's lots of tiny things in nature that can kill you, but they usually look the part, like venomous spiders looking like ... well, spiders, scorpions with their pincers and stinger, venomous frogs looking like nature was high on LSD when they did the paintjob, etc. pp. and so forth.

When it comes to Armalite rifles, there's nothing cooler than one of these.

An assault rifle can't get much cooler than this. Come on, how many of you actually know what it is, without checking the picture name?

Without looking at picture file name: AKM is what I'd say.

After looking at picture and doing a little Google, I think someone would've gotten sued if it hadn't been for the Cold War ...

I can, it's a VZ.58 . You can tell because of the stock, grip and trigger guard etc.

Here's an AKM for comparison.

I always thought the Vz. 58 with the folding stock was cool.

vz58firs.jpg

The bakelite furniture makes me all tingly, too.  I hear they're popular in Canada, because AKs are deemed too scary looking for purchase up there, or something.

And because of import restrictions in the US...

We can't get these:

But Canada can.  Go figure.  It's ugly, and I didn't want one anyways!
