Oh, nostalgia attack! I first saw a videogame on the PLATO system at the Univ of Illinois, must have been 1975. Snuck out of school (Uni High) with some friends. Was playing some primitive Star Trek simulator on a tiny orange plasma screen in front of a gigantic box of a console--thought it was the greatest thing in the world. Got into "Oubliette" later.

Oh yeah, love DAI--the world has come a long way. This has to be the golden age of videogaming.

Just FYI, Oubliette was ported to Android in 2012.  I have it on my phone.

yes thank you for the game that's less entertaining and interesting then putting  metacritic reviews in a text to speech software and listening to them , which Id advise for a good laugh,

It's a unicorn thread.  I've only heard about them in legend.  Where someone actually has something positive to say to Bioware and can take the time out of their day to express it.  These threads by default always get a 'Like' from me.  I'd give more if I could.

You see, I don't play RPG's for tactical combat. I don't give a rat's patootie about tactical combat in an RPG, I want storyline and interesting characters. If I can also craft some armor & explore an unknown (to me) wilderness that is even better. I grew up on actual RPG's - pen and paper - and when I was playing them you didn't use a map with little figures to determine everyone's location during combat, you just described it and got through it quickly (combat was always a mess) and moved on to the more important bits (roleplaying the negotiations with the duke to get access to the next dungeon). Character customization is nice but not a must have - I've run enough pre-gen tournament characters to be able to make any character I am handed my own.

I have played every game Bioware has put out, no I don't like them all. And I am not by any stretch a fanboy. I just wanted to express gratitude to Bioware for making a game I really enjoyed playing. I agree the game has flaws but all games do - I am not going to spend my holidays telling the developer that their game is crap because it doesn't conform to my expectations or games they've made in the past.

I will eventually sit down and detail all the items I wanted or would like to see in a sequel. However, I am going to ensure I present it in a thoughtfully written post which doesn't spend too much time using exclamation points or telling Bioware (or anyone else) that they are wrong and need to "fix" things. Presenting my opinion in an inflammatory "do it now" manner almost ensures that it would be ignored.

I doubt there are any people with Bioware now that worked on Baldur's Gate 1 or 2 - if there are I am sure they are not large in number. We all have those games we loved in our past - for me System Shock 2 is the best Sci-Fi Horror game I've played but going onto the Bioshock forums and telling Ken Levine that I didn't like the Bioshock series of games and that he needs to make a System Shock 3 now isn't going to do anyone any good (yes I know he is no longer there but that wasn't the point).

I mentioned this in my last post, if you are unhappy why continue to be unhappy? I stopped playing the Bioshock series because I didn't care for them. They were good games but not the games I wanted to see from Levine and his team. So I moved on and found other games to play. I am suggesting to the people who are really deeply dissatisfied with Inquisition that they move on because I don't see their hearts being unbroken.

My original post was in direct counter to the amount of negativity that is being expressed by seemingly everyone on these forums, when I look at topic after topic in which people demand changes to a game I feel as if I need to at least stand up and say, "Hey, I enjoyed playing your game. Hope it helps that I told you that." It never was meant as a blanket statement that everything they've ever done or will ever do is perfect. I take issue with their design choices (choose a color) but I have to temper that with how much enjoyment I did derive from their games.

I hope this doesn't come out sounding as if I am personally attacking you or that I enjoy lecturing people on how to behave. i am simply trying to express how I behave and wish to communicate my satisfaction/dissatisfaction with a company.

Thank you,

=Dan

hehe, see? it all depends on what you expect from a game. For me, I dont agree fully with either of you and I agree with both of you a bit, just on different issues.

Just like you mentioned that, you (both actually ) grew up on pen and paper rpgs and such, I have never in my life played a pen and paper rpg, nor do I have the deire to, however what I have grew up on was adventure games, and I loved them sooo much. So story is essentially everything for me, but I do like a hint of rpg elements in games, and the fact that my choices matter throughout a story as I play through makes it even better.

Now that being said, my primary issue is that unlike previous bioware games (and im talking here more about the DA and ME franchises) you could almost play as an advanture game with varied amount of rpg elements and action. These games were pretty much the best games I could ever imagine given my style.

Inquisition however is a different breed and I feel like those days when I get my perfect mix from a game is gone :( Obviously different people have differentneeds and likes and dislikes and it is all ok, why I am dissapointed in DAI has only to do with me expecting a gmae like the previous ones and I didnt get it.

You say you "don't give a rat's patootie about tactical combat", well I have similar feelings towards exploration, but what i do want is immersion. you see I cant do that if i cant follow the main storyline freely. I dont want to pick new curtains for skyhold while there is a bad guy out there, and I dont want to just roam around in a new massive area doing things that have nothing to do with the story inbetween finding an important clue and floowing it (talking about main story here). I cannot "space out" story missions to do some exploration or whatever because for me that breaks immersion into the story, which it did :(

I could not follow the main story I had to go out and do things I didnt want to do when all I wanted to do is to see what happens next in the main storyline.

So for that, for me the game is a bit of a disappointment, to be honest I already sank twice as much time in the multiplayer than in singleplayer, now unlike single, I have different expecations of multiplayer, that!s all about friends playing together trying to do something, we have fun just because we play together, let it be cod, or da, or wow.

I dont hate on the story of DAI, although I have to say if I only count story missions (and companion quests) then it is a bit short, and my choices does not seem to have too much effect on anything later on (apart from very very few), even ME3's not-too-original war asset system had a slight effect in the end, but in DAI it is practically 0, it means absolutely nothing for the end  (or ongoing) what you have done in these big areas, what you have and havent explored, or how many small rifts you actually closed or not. And all this makes me not wanting to do any of it :( It would have been so easy to link things together, like the more small rifts you close in the areas, the weaker the endboss fight would be, or less or more adds coming depending on something, whatever...

So again that just shows that we are all different :)

So rare to see a positive thread, so let me add my thank you here as well. I have issues with the game (eg. I think open world takes away depth of side contents, I expected more interaction between past characters, especially Hawke and Varric), but I have been playing this game non-stop at the expense of my social life, so I think I like this game quite a bit? Thanks Bioware for crafting this amazing adventure with your trademark characters and diversity!

Replying to this thread to add my own thanks and feedback. I figured it might be helpful to include specific examples of things I liked from my own play through, so the long, rambling response is in spoiler tags. You have been warned! :)

I just want to show my support to Bioware! I agree with many of the criticisms, but overall it is clear that they put a lot of effort into this game and I love it. It's worth it just for Solas. Here is a link to a thread I made about all the reasons why I love the game: http://forum.bioware...bout-this-game/

I thought a unicorn was a game that was not released before it was ready. Oh wait ... or is it a rare mystical beast. I forget!
