I personally did not find DA:I to be very fun or interesting. I was hoping for a CRPG like DA:O. My first instinct when I realized that I did not like the game was to be indignant and accuse EA of "butchering" this "once great franchise" and turning it into a "dumb console action game". But I now recognize that this was naive. EA is a publicly listed company in a multi-billion dollar industry. They are required by law to make decisions in the interests of their shareholders. Their decisions must be commercially justifiable. They do not have the liberty to make (major) decisions for reasons of sentimentality or "artistic integrity". I understand that EA took the DA franchise in the direction they did for commercial reasons. I understand that it is not reasonable to expect them to do anything else.
That said, I loved DA:O and I would love to play another DA title that is comparable to it one day. I have no interest in playing anything like DA:I. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with it. It is just not something that appeals to me.
So I wonder if people have any insights into whether there is a realistic prospect of EA delivering another DA CRPG title in the future. In marketing terms is it a no-brainer that they should continue down this path or is there a serious case to be made for taking the franchise back to its "origins" (so to speak)? Could a case be made for splitting the franchise into CRPG and ARPG streams? Could a case be made for licensing another studio (like say Obsidian) to use the DA:I assets to make a DA CRPG title (like Bethesda did for F:NV)? Is there any realistic chance of seeing another DA CRPG title or should I accept the inevitable and move on?
Is it possible for EA to deliver another CRPG like DA:O?
