Seems to me Small is the way to go personally.

1200g for a large and you get 5 items and 5 pots.  1350 for 5x small chests and you get 5 items and 10 pots.  5x extra pots for 150 more gold and maybe it's just me but I seem to have better luck with small chests loot wise.  And it's just more satisfying personally to open more chests.

I've been thinking about this myself.

If there are no hidden increased chances in large chest then I'd have to agree that small chest is probably better.

Probably the best bet is to go with the 1200g for a large and then 270g for a small. This gives you 6 items and 7 pots for 1470g. Or you could go for 2 medium for 6 items and 6 pots for 1450g. But you probably want to maximize the amount of items you get instead of pots Since pretty much every run can give you at least 750g for the medium chest.

Interesting. Did some quick calculation.

We are given that 250g gets you 5 healing pots. Therefore a pot is pegged at 50g.

270g Chest = 2x Pots (100g) + 1x Item (170g) - 170.0g per item

725g Chest = 3x Pots (150g) + 3x Item (575g) - 191.7g per item

1200g Chest = 5x Pots (250g) + 5x item (950g) - 190.0g per item

It is quite clear (from this calculation) that small chest carries more value than the other options.

Unless you're only interested in getting items, in which case Large Chests become the cheapest

Exactly.

I only get large chests for this reason.

Yeah theres some number crunching "chest value" threads floating around somewhere but basically the rule of thumb for value is:

  • Interested in potions - Buy small chests
  • Interested in loot - Buy large chests

Personally I've yet to be in a potion shortage so I always go for large.

Large Chests vs. Small Chests?

While I certainly appreciate large chests, I've always felt that more than a handful is a waste.

...oh.

Oh...

*Cough* I buy large chests exclusively.
