At the end when you summon the priest, the alter in the water you use to do so looks exactly like one of Solas' ancient elven artifacts he implores you to activate. The quest is also called "god" of secrets. Coincidence or irony? The artifacts seem to me like the key to knowing what solas is really aiming to do. I doubt seriously they simply ward off demons as he claims.
