I think it's pretty good, but there's just something weird about it.  So it starts slow and evolves into a fast one, that is the same as dao, yet dao uses a consistent 4-beat while dai I'm not so sure.  It starts with a rhythm that I can't recognize then end up a 4-beat rhythm.  Also the strong beats of the drums are not consistent with the orchestral part.  It just sounds weird.

Also, I never figured out the rhythm of me2 but it sounds just fine.  Does anyone know?

I really, really dug the DAI theme's starting bit because, whereas games like Skyrim went for epic chants, DAI's theme is actually a gospel song.  "The Dawn Will Come" is the "Amazing Grace" of Thedas.  It's not there for the epic, but for the humble, which IMHO makes it more powerful as it's the strength of every everyman, not just the hero.

The weird part for me of "Dawn" is that it sounds like Pippin's song from Lord of the Rings to me.

But I listened to DAO's theme again.  Not only did it bring me back to DAO, but I immediately go back to the overhead tactical display, the camp, I'm back!  And it did one thing more...as soon as the singing starts, I get goose bumps.  Then I get a shiver up my spine.  The DAI theme doesn't quite do that.  It's at this part:

Tura~swoOoOo...AaAaAaAaAaAa~AaAaAaAaAaHhHh...

(i.e. about 30 seconds in, that's an eargasm for me.)

Music that strays from a consistent 4-beat is not weird post the mid-20th century. You can subdivide a beat into triplets, you can change time signatures 9eg. 6/4 from 4/4, chage tempo. you don't have to play any note on the beat.

5/4 with triplets into 4/4:

Having said that, I couldn't tell you what is going on in the theme without a transcript or a lot of work with a metronome.

Let me get home from work and I can tell you the rhythm of the DAI theme. Bit of a music theory nut. I don't have access to the theme nor does my job allow me to sit and figure it out. Labor intensive job, ugh.

As for the query about me2, which track are you talking about? If it's the one I think you are thinking of(main menu/suicide mission/end run) then it's 7/8 time which is broken into (4+3/8) or if you're counting 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 repeat. (It can also be 7/4 depending on how you want to look at it but from a transcription stand point 7/8 is better and easier to work with). If none of this makes sense, I apologize, I've not had much sleep this past week.

The beginning of the theme actually changes count just about every measure but one way to count it (there are many) would be: 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 5, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 5, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 5 6, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 5 6, 1 2 3 4 5 6 and then drums and settle into 4 beats for the duration of the theme. There is a small bit where it only seems to change count but it really doesn't, just melody music magic happening there. (Okay, if it satisfies you, you can say it changes to 6 counts for 4 measures before going back to 4 counts but that's still 24 counts total which is divisible by 4) The percussion actually has three tied quarter notes (3 notes in 2 counts) every other measure that play off any regular quarter or eighth notes that are being played by the orchestra, which maybe what you mean when you typed "Also the strong beats of the drums are not consistent with the orchestral part".

I don't know the extent of other peoples music training so I hope this makes sense.

I think it's written in D minor... I really loved it. It's such a shame that we don't have a lot of music ingame to cover every part of the map.... dungeon etc like we had in Skyrim. I know that this was intentional, but still... :(
