I do mean this literally, you cannot effectively play dragon age especially as a tank due to its control scheme.

Here are three major problems.

Problem 1. You can be interrupted when weakening rifts, as a tank character this literally means you are hamstrung, outside of sheer incompetence i cannot think of a reason to implement this. Bioware if you didn't want people to play tanks why even make it available. This mechanic serves only to handicap one playable class as all others can reduce or have threat removed off them.

Problem 2. You cannot queue abilities, which is a serious issue with bio wares new tactical system and mechanics. Want someone to resurrect a companion? Too bad you can't queue it and if they are hit once they will fail in their action and not attempt again. Want to bring another tank so you can use your inquisitor tank to seal the rift? Too bad you can't queue multiple taunts from the other tank or have your main character do multiple attempts at rift sealing.

Problem 3. You can't backpedal I do not know who's moronic idea that was but what a way to make the already clunky combat system even clunkier. So listen up Bioware if you want to make mechanics where facing a certain direction is important but then you use a control system that forces a player to turn around to back up then you need to apply your palm to your face and queue that action until you acquire the common sense trait!

So why does this make the game unplayable? Well because simply put i have to stop playing, for one i cannot play my tank character there is literally nothing different that can be done. I can't drop threat, i can't have another tank pull threat off me, and i cannot adjust mitigation on the move because i cannot backpedal. The only solution is for me to lose this handicap is to delete my character and remake.

When that is the only solution to a problem, then that is what qualifies as unplayable.

I have always been a big fan of this studios work outside of swtor but the quality level with inquisition has just been awful, if you're reading this do not buy this title, wait till they patch it and fix it, if they ever patch it and fix it. Especially considering these are the problems i have run into when only a few hours into the game.

For many like me, DA:I actually is unplayable. The game won't launch.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I'd prefer they'd address this issue before any others.

Always great when people come to detract from a problem. Your issue is a technical one and likely localized to your computer. Mine is a fundamental problem with the core game system. Yours has a fix, mine does not.

Step one go to the correct section of the forum this is feedback you need technical support, step two post your specs ect.. By actually giving people the information needed to address the problem it can be solved. Trolling my post is not going to fix your software problem and for the record marginalizing other peoples problems instead of trying to solve your own is a jerk thing to do.

There is no need to be so aggressive. The word 'unplayable' is very emotive and it doesn't help when you are using it incorrectly.

A game is 'unplayable' when you literally can't play it not when it has some features you don't like and make you want to stop playing it. The fact that you had to explain what you meant by 'unplayable' means that you know that but choice you use an emotive word in your title to get people to click on your thread.

As for your criticisms;

1 - I've literally no idea how being interrupted while weakening rifts has to do with being a Tank. Of course you can be interrupted while weakening rifts, being hit interrupts any action. Why would weakening a rift make you invulnerable? Kill more of the demons and then use another Warrior or Mage to kill the rest.

2 - BioWare haven't included a queuing system since KOTOR and it was never part of the Dragon Age franchise. While I agree that it would be a really nice feature, particularly since you can't set AI 'tactics' any more, it doesn't make the game unplayable.

3 - Again this was never a feature of DA games, while I'm not saying that they can't add new features (because of course they can), your complaint makes it sound like you expected it.

I'm playing fine on nightmare with my Templar as a tank. I have Blackwall around as my second Tank, if I need to interrupt the rift, but I usually kill the demons.

You simply misread my post, i cannot play it with my character, this isn't a feature i dislike, its one that keeps me from progressing. As to the points.

Point 1. I am not really sure how you are missing this, perhaps you don't understand the system but i will endeavor to explain. Firstly you actually are not interrupted when hit while using the majority of your abilities as a warrior, Secondly interrupting the rift is a core mechanic of the game it hurts and aoe stuns all of the demons. Now for say a mage or a rogue one can easily interrupt the rift because Agro( the threat that character produces) is low and can be dropped. The tanks in dragonage cannot drop or lower their threat meaning they cannot interrupt the rift because they will themselves always be interrupted. Starting to make sense yes?

Point 2.  The fact that dragonage didn't have a que system previously is irreverent, because dragonage did not need one previously. In dragonage origins and 2 you could heal using the ai commands, and damage did not interrupt core mechanics, and tanking was much more straight foward and did not require positioning. It now does and one cannot control two characters at once so you cannot say position your tank and have another character resurrect a resuscitate a fallen one. You couldn't do so in origins either but you didn't need to do so origins either.

Point 3. This is the same as point two and again meaningless yes you could not backpedal in origins or dragonage two, but your tank didn't have to hold his shield up and face the enemies in dragonage origins or two. New mechanics mean new ui features to accommodate them.

As for the reason why i used the word unplayable is because as it i cannot play the game as intended due to controls that are point in fact missing. Reason why i had to explain what i mean't? People are reactionary and don't bother to carefully read posts hence my needing to explain it a second time.

There you go. At least someone understood what I meant.

Don't say your game is "unplayable" when you can actually play it. It will attract people who actually can't play it.

As for your "step-by-step guide" on how to solve my problem, I already did all that and I actually waited for 1 hour to chat with an EA support staff member just to be told that I could ask for a refund as there doesn't seem to exist a fix for it yet and there probably won't be one in the near future.

Bottom line is don't start a rant on how "literally unplayable" your game is, when all you're doing is complaining about game mechanics. There are people out there for whom the game actually is literally unplayable, there is nothing wrong with their systems and there isn't a fix available.

That is a lie of omission. Only tanks actively produce threat with taunts and have no way to drop said threat and taunt. For example mages have peaceful aura in the spirit tree. Please do not spread misinformation.

How do you tank swap to lose agro when its time to close the rift? I know you can't have blackwall use multiple taunts because you can't queue abilities, and i know you can't queue the interrupt in case you get attacked or drop agro on your character with default abilities? So a how would be helpful.

This almost the very first thing I tried in the game.  I thought I was being so clever, too....

Still, I'll always have my DA:O bombardier rogue.  Stealth grenade ALL THE DARKSPAWNS.

Oh do be quiet. I play a Mage with peaceful aura. Do I get ignored? no. Wraiths still attack me when I'm doing it. Or pride demons.

I will not be quiet misconceptions need to be addressed or people will continue spamming in this thread and yes you do get ignored. If you stop attacking you will lose threat because you produce less of it then the other character. The ai will attack the character with the highest threat or aggro percentage, if your percentage is lower then your tanks ( which it is because your tanks have abilities to increase threat and you have abilities to decrease threat) then a enemy Ai will always change its target to the one with the highest amount of threat.

Point being wraiths will not attack you if you have less threat then your tank which you will if your tank is increasing his threat and you are decreasing it. Its simple math 10>5 pretend the ">" is the AI. I can't explain it more simply then that.

Well don't challenge the ai when disrupting a rift then. The only benefit gained is against pride demons

None of the complaints you have listed make the game 'unplayable'. You don't like how tanking works. That does not equal unplayable. But lets go through your issues.

  1) Interrupting rifts is in no way essential - you can quite easily close them without ever bothering with it. If you really feel like you 'must' do it then it is completely possible to do as a tank. Have allies use CC abilities on nearby enemies while you do it. Problem solved.

  2) Being able to que abilities would be handy, it not being there isn't game breaking. It's not even close. For reviving companions I've found the simplest way of doing it is to actively control the character you have doing it (which takes only a few seconds).

  3) Being able to back peddle would also be kind of handy - but again not being able to do it is in no way game breaking.

I'm honestly not trying to be dismissive or rude but when your initial complaint is so over the top its hard for any response not to come off that way. Lots of people seem to be able to play as tank without any problem. Cespar, Andraste_Reborn and me are all examples of it from within the thread. You want the mechanics changed, fine - but the game very simply isn't unplayable.

Point 1 - in your  original post you made it sound like being disrupted when closing a fade rift was linked to being a Tank. Since it is not linked in anyway to that I was confused. All classes get interrupted when trying to disrupt a rift. It happens to my Rogue all the time, normally because there was one spirit that I didn't notice wasn't attacking one of my warriors. Usually Warrior abilities happen too fast to be interrupted by an attack, since it's using abilities that take longer (like disrupting a fade rift) that are vulnerable to this.

I don't see what the big deal is, but since you have an issue with it perhaps I can offer some solutions.

  • Kill all the demons without bothering to disrupt the rift
  • Bring along another Tank to take the Argo off you
  • Bring along a Mage with AOE abilities to take the Argo off you
  • Get companions to use grenades to take the Agro off you

Basically your point is you can't stand there and take lots of hits while disrupting a rift, which makes no sense within the rest of the game mechanics.

Point 2 - the way your phrased your statement made it seem like you were expecting this feature and then discovered it wasn't there. That is why I pointed out that it has never been in a DA game before. I agree that it would be a really nice feature but it doesn't make the game 'unplayable', which, as we discussed means that the game literally can't be played not that is is missing a feature you wanted or has a feature you don't like.

Personally I don't like that fact that the 'jump' feature meant that BioWare put fade shards up bloody hills but that doesn't make it 'unplayable' just a feature I have to decide if I care enough about to stop playing. spoiler  - I got over it.

Point 3 - see point 2,

Your threat generation goes up regardless of class and you get the aggro when you're closing rifts, so of course they're going to interrupt you.

Have not played a front-line Warrior yet as this is my weakest area of control, but have been contemplating designing them, then leading again from the rear while controlling an Archer or mage; my strengths. Cassandra worked well in my first campaign, and generally had few problems once I lost the Berserker gear. Now that was a Nightmare....

Or you could just kill all the demons which automatically weakens the rifts, then the next wave starts kill all the demons again and seal it.

Not being able to Queue actions can be annoying, especially on harder game modes but it's not at all game breaking. It's completly playable without it, same with the backpdeling issue. Sure it would be easier with those two things but it's not actually gamebreaking.

WTF dudee. When it's time to close the rift

ALL the effin demons are already gone. You got nothing to hit your head.......

And the aggro have time limit. you can run away using bulls charge while having second tank taunt.

The OP's comments illustrate the problem with making a turn-based system into a faux-real-time system. Either stick with turn-based, or make an action game.

The game was difficult to play  after I installed but changing the settings....... works. TRY IT

If you have less than 8 gigs of RAM and 512K videocard...I suggest you upgrade. RAM is not expensive and you can get a mid range videocard for a reasonable price.

Also DO NOT have anything minimized in the background when you're playing
