Lol.  We could derail this thread.....but I won't.  As long as you stay where you are then we're good.

Whats up with that bagged milk though?

I like poutine, but poutine is God's way of keeping the Quebecois from living forever.

Then there's the whole problem of Tim Horton's. Canada is best left to those who have dealt with it their entire lives.

Never mind the fact that you would no longer have the right to freedom of speech or freedom of expression, and the ever growing Muslim immigration problem there that wants to establish Sharia Law as soon as possible.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this. Is that what they tell you on TV on the other side of the pond or something?

America may be in bad shape, yet it is a hell of a lot nicer than everywhere else. Especially Europe.

BTW, not an American.

Yeah! I've done it before. I left for Spain back in 2010 (I stayed there for 2 - 2 1/2 years), Brazil a year ago (Stayed for 2 months, I think) and Guatemala 3 weeks ago.

what are you expecting from a country that tells its children that they haven´t been involved in any war since WW2? korea, vietnam, gulf, afghanistan, iraq... just conflicts

Nah, I grew up in Jersey. I'm too used to the way of life around here to want to move. That's just me though.

'Especially Europe.' You're implying that everywhere else is nicer than Europe. ok then mate sure, you go off to Pakistan or Sierra Leone before I ever see you in Paris or Rome.

Guatemala?! Jeez what drove you to live there?? Flores and Antigua are ok but most of the rest...

I wish there was a system like; so many Americans seem to want to move to the UK. I'm British and want to move to Texas. I'll never be able to because America has a more closed immigration policy these days. If only there was a system where you could swap people around the world lol.

It would be a helluva lot easier for an american to get UK/European citizenship then it would be for me to get the equivalent US citizenship.

I'll answer a bit differently: I'm not from America, and while I do wish to leave my country of birth, the US would not be my first choice. It's definitely high up the list, however.

You're implying Europe is the worst part of the world to live in. That's... absurd, to be honest.

True story:

Texas.

Guy driving home with his 2 young sons.  Can't remember age, but >13. Car breaks down a ways from home.  They are out pushing the car to make it the rest of the way.  Drunk driver rear ends the car and kills both of his sons.  Guy goes home, get his gun, comes back to the scene, kill the drunk driver.  Jury finds the guy innocent.

Texas.

If I had to go out of America, I would go IN SPACE, and when technology has advanced far enough, we'll have space hotels and colonies on other planets.

My feeling is the U.S. is the country of extremes, so they're good with high execution base concept things like home improvement, idealistic romance, etc where the concept is straightforward and it's dependent mostly on execution. They'll execute that thing until there's nothing left.

However they are (generally, IMO) very afraid of crossing the line into gray area things like the legality of X or Y, or sexuality, or things like that. There is also still a strong puritanical bent there that makes them very fearful of certain things. I remember going to France and being surprised at how different they approach things like sex.

That's really not meant to be negative towards anyone, but when it comes to something like  gender politics or kind of controversial type of issues the U.S has a pretty fearful approach. On the other hand, something like music I kind of see the U.S. as still relevant because it's mostly just a matter of intensity in smashing home a pretty basic concept, whereas Europe doesn't really (seem) to have the same shotgun blast intensity.

I feel like technology is another strong area for the U.S. because it's sort of a straightforward matter of extreme optimization, and Americans seem to excel at that.

In short there are aspects of the U.S. that are actually kind of endearing, other aspects, maybe not so much.

I should have been more specific and adjusted my wording there. There is no specified bill of rights in the UK like there is in the United States.

I won't rule it out, but atm I cannot see where I'd move to or why outside of the US.
