This is great, well-written advice.  Thank you for taking the time to post this.  I'll keep this in mind for my own game.

What you have in front of you is an RPG. I think you know what that is, but looking around I start to wonder. I see so many posts in the forums about finding specific items with the what and where for armors, materials, or quests. Yikes.

This is not a checklist game. Look up... yes, up there... BioWare. You see that, it says BioWare. Story is first, and exposing 5 moves in advance is spilling magic on the floor you can't get back. When you read taglines about game of the year and RPG experience they've been waiting on for half a decade at a time... they aren't talking about crafting colors. They are talking about a rollercoaster. Hard choices, regrets, taking up the call or falling victim to the trappings of lust and power. Don't play the game in fear... that you've missed something. You'll be thrown against the ropes, but never stop moving forward.

Well said. I would add this is an insanely forgiving game. It doesn't require manic attention to details. Whole regions can be skipped and still be overleveled for the bad guys (I don't recommend it). Not crafting anything might actually make the game balance a lot better. Requisition quests aren't needed. There is more than enough power to do everything in the game at least twice over.

In short, you don't need to chase every quest marker or pluck every weed you find. Like you said, play the game don't try and game the game and this is a much better experience.

I'm sorry, but this is not RPG. At best, this is MMO with some actionRPG moments.

Is this some kind of fanfiction trying to convince people to be immersed? Why put this in tutorial then?

This post is brilliant, and a fantastic guideline for people to follow. This game is all about the journey, not about min/maxing numbers in an abstract world. For first time players this is EXACTLY how the game should be a approached. Save your optimizations for your later play attempts, if ever. There is no need to go out and do everything the first time. Let the story evolve, choose your role (RPG, ROLE, GET IT??) and stay true to your characters beliefs. It can be done, I swear.

Great advice, thanks for dissipating my doubts about the MMO nature of the game.
