The "hold position" comes in handy during those crazy moments! It happened to me too! I tried to cross and I turned around and Varric, Cole and Solas were all behind me and running into each other. And your Dorian seems to like fire like mine does too. 

 

Indeed. Though when I actually remember to use that command, half the time they seem to ignore it. I remember this one puzzle in Exalted Plains being needlessly hard because of it   (or maybe I'm just doing it wrong =P)

Lol I tried it during the running around the column to revive "grandpa" and they still followed me too. I think it's a bit buggy. At least they didn't follow me when I did my balancing act in the Hinterlands where the occult is hiding out. All that for a lousy belt on a dead body that seems to have been shot to death by arrows. Lol

 

Well, Solas (and only Solas) followed me. Pushed me off, too, and then refused to get down himself. Douche.
