Thanks, debating whetever to buy this game or not..

I apologize that this isn't an answer to your question but I highly recommend Dragon Age Origins. It is a great game, will give you info on the universe, and you can get it cheap.

Check out some gameplay footage, and see if it would be something you're interested in. We don't know your taste in games, so it's not really possible to give you an answer. If you're interested in the combat, and mechanics then videos should give you some idea of what to expect.

From a story standpoint, playing the first two games helps, but it's not needed. Everything will be explained to you eventually, and there are plenty of places to check about the previous games' stories if you're interested.

well I will tell you this dragon age and diablo 3 are two completely different games, diablo is a fast paced loot based ARPG. Dragon age is a slower semi open world story driven RPG, you have a party and get to know them and you slowly unfold the story, Diablo 3 you do runs to level then get loot.

Both are decent games but very different

Is DAI worth a buy regardless? yes.

If you have the time, play DAO and DA2 first.

If you don't, it's fine anyway.

If while playing Diablo 3 you sometimes thouht it would be cool to manage multiple characters instead of one, or that you'd like the story to be more involving, that your character's personnality could be more developped ,and an actor in the story to the point that from time to time you wold have big decisions to take. If you don't mind sacrifying things like having your character defined by less skills and other stuff you'll find in Diablo but not in Dragon Age then y should try it.

The previous games can only be played on previous generations and PC, if this is not a possibility for you then do not mind. Bioware knows that not everybody played the previous games and everything is explained. Furthermore each game focused on a different regions and a different main character so it's not a trilogy like Mass Effect telling the story of one guy/gal from beginning to the end.

Not similar to Diablo, which is pretty much a hack and slash game in my opinion... fun for sure. You dont havevto have played the other games, but I think playing the games and reading the books gives you a lot more insight and context

This is a really good game so have fun.

I definitely think DAI is worth it if you haven't played the previous games.  Since it's a new protagonist in each game, Dragon Age games stand alone better than say Mass Effect where it's one character and one continuous main story.  They provide a LOT of exposition during dialogue in Inquisition.  You can ask characters a lot of questions, which will help fill in the backstory and lore.  For those of us who played the previous games, there's a lot of "yep, I knew that or I remember that" during some of the dialogue, but for you it would be new information.  And if that's not enough, there are Codex entries on just about every topic if you still need more information.

It's a good game for story, open worlds, and well written characters. The combat is pretty flashy and faster paced in Inquisition then previous Dragon Age games(especially Origins), but it's not like Diablo where you're slaughtering upwards of 50 enemies at once. You do also have a party of up to 4 people of which you can take control of any of them at any time(while you aren't in control the AI takes over).

As far as playing the previous ones go it's not necessary for story but if you don't mind slower more tactical combat and have a previous gen console or PC that can run it then I would definitely recommend checking out Dragon Age: Origins. You can pick it up pretty cheap, and it'll probably be on sale during the current Steam sale at some point. It has tons of content and great characters in it.

Dragon Age 2 wasn't bad but it did have heavy re-use of environments and fights were a lot of 'wave after wave' of reinforcements which if you like Diablo I imagine you may not mind that part. It has two DLC which I am told are very good, but haven't personally played.

Both will give you a bit more background on certain things though. Specifically:

Dragon Age: Origins is about the Hero of Ferelden(the character you play) and the 5th blight.

Dragon Age 2 is about Hawke and the finding of what is called Red Lyrium which shows up a fair bit during Inquisition(they do recap it in DA:I though). There's also some background on something else that I can't mention in this section.

In general a lot of the references are kind of a "Oh hey I remember that person" sort of deal, rather than something you need to know to enjoy the story. I would certainly say it's worth it even if you don't play Origins and DA2. It's just nice if you really want to dig into the lore of the world.

I think both Diablo 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition are fantastic, though different, games.  Diablo nails it on fast-paced enemy massacres and loot gathering, whereas Dragon Age is more tactical and has far better story and characters.

What do you like a about Diablo? DAI isn't a dungeon crawler. You have a party. It's slower and more tactical. Less enemy mobs. Less action. Lots more story and talking (like Mass Effect).

I love the game but I wouldn't say it's like Diablo at all.

I'm not sure I agree even though DAO is IMO a great game. The other games are very different gameplay wise. Even RP wise only DAO has a silent protagonist. It's no longer a good entry point.

DAO is a great game DA2 is cool too if you want to know the backstory for DAI. But if you're not into the story that much (I'm assuming not since you want to compare DAI to Diablo 3) then I'm going to go against the common opinion here and tell you just go for DAI. If you play DAO and DA2 and end up liking them, you'll see a thousand little flaws and issues in DAI which will lessen the experience for you.

The multiplayer is similar to d2 and much more interesting tbh. I tend to fall asleep when I play d2/d3 no joke I nod off every time.

Thank you for all of your answers.

I have sold my PS3 away but my computer may be able to run this game.. Silly question, but does this confirm Dragon Age Origins runs well? http://prntscr.com/5k1ttv

Also, how long the game is? If I play through the story, how long might it take? 9,99 € on Steam right now. Might buy it.

But no, I'm not that interested in story. I guess I had no idea what was going on on Diablo 3, but it was a fun game and plenty of action.

All three games should run fine, although DAI will probably run on medium settings only.

DAO is the longest game of the three if you consider only the story. Took me 60+ hours to complete it. If you get the Ultimate Edition you'll also get Awakening and the DLCs. That's another 20-30 hours. If you want to include useless fetch and collect quests then DAI is longer, well over a hundred hours.

That's wrong. DAO has a short main story, if you're simply talking critical path cinematic content. It just has more cinematic side content, and two very long and very mandatory dungeon crawls.

DA2 has the longest critical path.

If you like MMO fetch quests, this is the best game of the new generation. If you don't...

If you want to argue over usage of words I'm not interested. Fact of the matter is that as far as story is concerned DAO had more content than both DA2 and DAI. Three major plots directly linked to the main story and a Indiana Jones-esque quest.

Well, if story isn't interesting to you, then the singleplayer game may not be as enjoyable to you as it is to me-I'm mainly playing for the story and character.

I haven't done the MP version, so can't speak to that.

That said, try DA:O at the much lower price point, and see if the story does pull you in.  If so, then I think this game will be a great ride. :)

That's better than my old machine which ran Origins just fine.

Although all the Dragon Age games have a lot of dialogue. If you aren't interested in story you may end up not caring for that part which is a pretty big part of the series. The main draw for BioWare games is the story and characters in them.

If you really heavily focus the main story, I'd probably say you can do it in about 15-30 hours depending on if you skip dialogue or not and how quickly you can get through the areas. First playthrough is always a bit slower since you don't know where everything is.

As a side note, I would wait until January 1st to buy Origins on Steam but check back daily. They're in the middle of the winter sale right now and Dragon Age: Origins is a very popular one to go on sale which would put it at upwards of 75-90% off instead of the 50% that it is now. I got the ultimate edition with all the DLC for about $5 one year.

I'm not arguing over usage of words. I'm arguing over objective content. You didn't say it had more plots. You said it was longer. It's not.
