So is that another reason elves didn't want to be around humans? Seems breeding with them would get them wiped out?

Yes, it looks down upon, especially for Dalish for elves to breed with other races as it is a dying race. Among the city elves, there is arrange marriage among city elves. In DA2, Feyriel and his mother got rejected from other elves for having a kid with a human. Other humans hate them as well for being part elf. Dalish elves don't want to be around humans because they hate them for stealing and driving them fro their ancestral land, not because of the breeding. City elves are not segregated from humans by choice, they're being forced to live on alienage.
