Does anyone else actually use mounts?

I keep on forgetting they're even an option, I'm level 20 and haven't used one since the tutorial in the Hinterlands.

...actually, I didn't even try the horse-racing mission there. (hopefully no one considers that a game-killing spoiler?)

Am I missing out on anything?

When I'm exploring, riding makes no sense (especially since I tend to be mildly compulsive about gathering resources) and if something is really far and I have no patience for running, I just fast-travel. The only area I haven't visited yet are the Hissing Wastes, and none of the others so far struck me as particularly welcoming for mounts, while in several even trying to ride would have been a huge hassle.

I rarely use them. I prefer just running so I don't miss out on herbs and ore and other things. Unless I'm in Hissing Wastes, then a mount is kinda nice because of the large areas where it's mostly just sand dunes and the like.

I don't use the mount very often either. Like you say, you explore and gather resources and the locations are never really too far apart. I do like the mounts though, especially the Hart. I just found out your companions can use your mount, some look silly doing so :3

Only in the Hissing Wastes and the Western Approach so far.  Makes sense there with the wide-open spaces.

I don't think many do.  I don't because I enjoy party banter.  If I want to get to the other side of the map quickly, I'll fast travel to a camp on that side.

Sure on the bigger maps, plus in hissing just looks great.

I use them a little bit. It's interesting but I also pick up resources constantly and like party banter so I don't ride the mounts too terribly often.

No, mounts were completely useless in this game.

1. You will miss out on much needed loot objects.

2. Fast travel locations cover all the key areas.

3. They function as poorly as the mounts in Elder Scrolls Online.

I use them when I have to go from one end of the map to the other and I have done most if not all sidequests inbetween but that's about it. They make you skip collectibles and banter just for a slight boost of speed and unless you get certain Inquisition perks enemies knock you off your mount in seconds.

Barely used the mounts. No complaints about them mind.

I run everywhere, in game, even though I have and actually ride, horses in real life. Maybe all that running is why my mages and ranged rogues are trying to commit suicide by standing under dragons while fighting them.  :P

Funny you should mention that. Hissing Wastes is where I always use a mount.

I went on foot everywhere my first 3 playthroughs because I hoped for party banter but it only triggers like once every 3-6 hours (other than the "we should look around" or short comments about where we are) so now it's just me and the shrill bleating of the wild hart as we charge through the maps in near silence.

Depends, if I have Iron Bull and Solas together, yes - thier repeating banter annoys me and, it repeats every 2 minutes if I walk so, I use the mount to shut them up while moving to a new locale for something. Otherwise, not often.

I do. I find them handy. Especially when re-visiting already discovered areas and I just want to get straight to a location quickly.

Mounts are a cute idea, hardly necessary but nice.

I use them occasionally.

Oh, and I galloped across Judicael's Crossing a few times like one of the early trailers and it was epic !

I do all the time. For all maps. I wish I could use them on The Fallow Mire.
Complete Hinterlands with no mount is pretty spartan. Complete Hissing Wastes, with the 5 Tombs + Tomb of Fairel is define masochism.

Nope. They barely move any faster than just running around, and they make you miss out on banter. And then there's fast travel. Mounts look cool, but otherwise they are kinda useless.

I don't because using them glitches my party out, so I cannot switch between characters.

Not worth the restart just to a ride a horse.

+1 to the Hissing Wastes.  Everywhere else I simply walk or fast travel.

I use them quite frequently especially if I just want to go into a zone for one thing and get out. If I'm staying in a zone long term to explore then I won't use it.

They're so incredibly pointless and poorly designed that I can only hope they were an afterthought tacked on late in development.

Don't use mounts. Not interested in dropping my 'exceedingly rare' level of party banter down to 'absolutely none'. Plus, I can't harvest/interact with things while mounted, so even if I got party banter all the time while unmounted, I still wouldn't be very interested in using a mount at all.
