First PT, I got almost no party banter so I wasn't about to use a mount and lose what little banter I got. This second PT, I'm getting a lot of party banter so I don't want to use a mount since I like to hear all the banter. ![]()
Does anyone else actually use mounts?

I rarely use mounts. When I do, it's usually some unusual circumstance. The last time I used a mount, was after I realized I had been running the wrong way for a rather long bit, when I missed a lootable box related to a quest in a cave, and mistakenly thought that it would be found on top of the ridge - went around the whole mountain, and not finding a path up, realized that it must have been in the cavern anyway.
That's when the mount came in handy - wasn't going to miss anything, as I was essentially retracing my steps, so getting there by horse was rather convenient.

Only in Hissing Wastes. Otherwise nope. Glad I didn't waste money to get that Bog Unicorn crap.

Yeah, I like them and use them plenty. Normally I wait for some party banter and then inmediatly call the mount to do some cut-the-wind thing.
Mounts are normally pretty useless in this game, but they are soooo cool.

Sometimes. It's usually when I have to go backtrack somewhere.

I can't imagine to explore Hissing Wastes without a mount.. It would take a couple or weeks to finish that area.

Just from the responses in this thread I cant help but feel that adding in so many mounts was a waste of time and effort considering barely anyone used them more than a couple of times. It probably would have been a better idea to spend the time they used coming up with 20 variants of a horse to design a few extra Skyhold PJs instead.

I use them to jump off cliffs and such when there is no quick way down. I used them in the Hissing Waste as that is large will little to fill the space.

Occasionally, when my only objective is "Get to this point."
Most of the time, get to this point isn't as important as picking up crafting materials, listening to Banter, getting into fights, spamming jump (For some reason its never as fun on a horse) and, you know, just enjoying the scenery. I never use mounts in Elder Scrolls games either, even after they added mounted combat.

The Hissing Wastes is the only area where a mount actually comes in handy, IMO. You're much better off walking otherwise.

I went on foot everywhere my first 3 playthroughs because I hoped for party banter but it only triggers like once every 3-6 hours (other than the "we should look around" or short comments about where we are) so now it's just me and the shrill bleating of the wild hart as we charge through the maps in near silence.
first THREE playthroughs?? someone's obsessive ![]()

Only time I've used mounts is the hissing wastes because nobody wants to walk through a big boring desert. And sometimes when collected those stupid fragments.
I don't even understand where you get other mounts, I have th ehorse you get at the start and somewhere along the lines I got a mission to collect another different mount but that's it, 2 out of the huge list. Same with the stuff for the keep. Just don;t understand where you're meant to get them, let alone why!?
I just finished the game at level 21, Guaranteed on my second playthrough I wont be wasting time with half of the garbage in it, it'll be funny to see the difference in my completion times.

Nope, I don't use them, but the mounts look great. If DA:I was an MMO (no I am not suggesting for it to be an MMO) or if Bioware had found a way to not let party members disappear then yes I would be using them.

Found the mounts to be truly wasted resources. I'm curious if they had intended for something more with them.

I use my mount when I have to go to the vendor in the Hissing whatever place, other than that... No, never.

On my second playthrough when I have a long stretch of area I need to cross. I know how useless and infrequent banter is so I'm not worried about it anymore.

They're pointless.
They're slow, you miss out on banter (if you're not already missing it due to bugs), your party disappears in a puff of smoke, you can't do combat or loot stuff while on them, and the animation generally looks bad.
Honestly, I just wouldn't have minded if they limited mounts to NPCs riding around on horses and such to make the environments a bit more lively. But apparently, the Inquisitor is the only person in Thedas that can ride a horse.
