Most of us love the trilogy to bits. It's our favorite game/games. For better or for worse this series changed us and we love it! But. It's not perfect in fact there are some pretty not so great parts in these games. Now we can focus on story, or characters, or.... Well you know. But there are some (imo) bad or at the very least mediocre missions or battles through out these games.

So list the Mission or battle you disliked the most from each game. Just do one per entry. So that makes it 3 total.

And remember this is for kicks. So don't get defensive if your favorite mission gets listed...

Mass Effect: Thorian. I about fell asleep through this fight. Granted the whole asari clone and mind control reveal was cool. But running up stairs. Shoot a couple hus- Oops sorry "Thorian Creepers". Shoot the meat sack. Rinse repeat. Now granted there are missions like this throughout the game (or series for that matter) But for some reason I just couldn't get behind this fight.

Mass Effect 2: Derelict Reaper mission. "B-b-but this is where Legion comes into the fray". You may say. But ffs. Nothing put me off more from this mission than the "horde mode" of fighting waves of husks. I didn't find it fun or exciting. It was a chore and a bore.

Mass Effect 3: The Ending! No I won't use that dead horse(though I'm sure it could still use a beating).

No my pick for Mass Effect 3 is. Geth Server Core. Now this mission isn't awful. But there was so much potential for a better experience. Make it shorter. Add some platforming. And maybe a dialogue option and that would have been a better mission imo. Still wasn't bad and we did get more quarian/ geth backstory, so lose some win some.

Uhmmm....

ME1: I can't think of any, those were all enjoyable. Althought Benezia's fight can be a little treacherous if you go unprepared or overconfident.

p.d: Ah, yes, Pinnacle Station's Time Trial missions.

ME2: Garrus Recruitment. I really freakin' HATE time-trials.

ME3: Priority: Earth. Maybe just because every time I reach there I just wanna finish the game and get it over with :P

I almost put Benezia. Just because, as you said, she can be a handful if not prepared. But after the fist time around she's ok.

I think I did one PS mission. It was after it was released. I did the one and then went to go do other missions elsewhere haha.

Off the top of my head...

ME1 - Can't really think of any at the minute.

ME2 - I'm not fond of Firewalker. I just don't like the vehicle, it feels too lightweight, and the stages go on a bit too long as well.

Also, it's not really a proper mission, but that one where you follow the mining robot and have to keep replacing its batteries. All for a load of copper or platinum or whatever it was.

ME3 - Missions in ME3 were generally the best developed overall. Hmm. I suppose the Geth server. The level itself is quite cool, but the stage epitomises everything that annoys me about how the Geth were generally handled in ME3.

EDIT: For some reason, I read "fights", rather than fights or missions. Still, most of my opinions are still applicable. The lists of likes would expand significantly if I didn't stick to listing "good fights".

There weren't any in the trilogy that I particularly disliked, other than Priority: Earth. It was confusingly dead the first time, and boring and sad ever since. There were highlights that jump to mind from each game.

In Mass Effect, my favorites were Virmire, Ilos and the Battle of the Citadel, of course.

For ME2, I really enjoyed Horizon, the Derelict Reaper (for the mood and ambience), the Collector Ship, and the Suicide Mission. Miranda's and Garrus' loyalty missions were good. Really, all of the Loyalty Missions were very good. Thane's recruitment mission... There were a lot of good ones.

ME3 had mostly well designed battles. Gellix, Omega and the Citadel Coup come to mind. Leviathan DLC had some good ones. There were no poorly designed fights, in my opinion. The missions had a lot of variety, too. Another year in development, or less time wasted trying to get features to function on the PS3, and this could've been one of the best games ever. As it is, it is still a fun game.

I like all fight missions!

what I hate is scanning planets for fetch missions, evading reapers on the galaxy map mini game, and such things.

hell, I even preferred the insta-dungeon fights in ME1 over the "fetch me the book of Plenix by scanning planet xyz" stuff.

At least it is some action, and doesn't feel like a browser game.

Favourites:

- ME1: Virmire. I love how the ambient of assaulting that base is done. Plus, by that time you already have all lvl X equipment (if you're like me and you leave it for the last, after exploring all the galaxy and DLC's), and you're basically a juggernaut which Geth can't do anything against  :D ).

- ME2: Tali's loyalty. Geth in close-quarters? Piece of cake. Easy. Lots of pleasure :D

I nailed them with the Mattock with my Soldier build, and Charge + Eviscerator with my Vanguard.

Addentum: I add another one to the list of dislikes: The Eclipse crates' mission. On Insanity, it's a complete PAIN IN THE ARSE.

- ME3: Difficult to say, lots of memorable fights :D But I like engaging Geth, so I'll say the entire Rannoch arc, including the Geth Fighter squadrons (oh, come on, how could someone dislike 2 free Intel bonuses at once?).

This time I nailed them with the M-99 Saber (Soldier), and Novaadeptguard* CryoTalon (Vanguard).

* Charge/Nova/Pull/Flare/Shockwave.

In ME1 the BDTS minefield was a bit nasty at first.  Pinnacle station time trials (thanks Gladitorium).

In ME2, Horizon on the hardest difficulty with a fresh Shepard runthrough.  Man that place sucked - Scions and Praetorians oh my.

In ME3, well, I hated most of the game, but the very worst was from Marauder Shields on.

In ME1, yeah, Liara's recruitment mission doesn't do much for me, and I like her character fine. Several pretty uninteresting N7 missions fit the bill, too, and navigating the mine field in Bring Down The Sky wears on the nerves if we're counting DLC.

Does the point in ME2 when the entire squad conveniently and inexplicably evacuates the Normandy and we're forced to control Joker during the Collector invasion count as a "mission"? Because that's the absolute lowest of the low. If not, then perhaps Samara's recruitment mission for being unbearably bland (aside from Niftu Cal), or one of the countless dumb side-missions (escorting a broken mech? shooing varren away from a quarian? rerouting power through a unnecessarily complex control scheme?), or the horrific intro that reboots and railroads most of the universe while breaking the laws of physiology to create CyborgShep. So much to choose from, really.

In ME3, I'd have to say the Cerberus coup for its iffy exposition, though it's still tolerable. I prefer a good chunk of the missions in ME3 above those in the previous two games, including Priority: Earth and the stories involving the reused MP maps.

Playing on Insanity, there were a lot of missions in ME1 there were very frustrating. Pretty much any with enemies with biotics, tech powers and/or immunity would lead to some moments of pure boredom. But two missions in particular come to mind: one of the time trails in Pinnacle station which the mission was just broken, it was pretty much impossible to complete it on insanity and a side mission where you have to hold a base against the Rachini.

From ME2 and ME3 I can't pinpoint one that I strongly dislike. Sure I liked some more than others, but I don't remember thinking: "oh, it's that mission now, how wonderful."

Planet scanning.

Throw it out the airlock, and bring back the Mako.

They will never bring back ME1 Mako! But a new vehicle that can actually be driven, and maybe even fun to do so? Hell yeah!

Mass Effect 1 was the Thorian and the Therum Krogan boss fight, that was a huge difficulty spike on Insanity. Plus you had to sit through the unskippable cutscene every time you died.

Haha. Good call! I still laugh when I consider that they thought this was a good enough idea that they actually included it in the game. I laugh more when I remember a BioWare employee defending it on the BSN (can't remember who it was), seemingly with slightly hurt feelings. I actually felt bad for the guy, sort of like "Aw, man, this was your stupid idea, wasn't it?".

I can only laugh about it because I use a save editor to effectively remove it from my games. If that weren't the case, ME2 would be a greatly diminished experience, in my opinion. I wouldn't have been able to replay it time and again, as I have done.

ME1: I guess the Thorian fight. It's pretty boring.

ME2: The end of Garrus's recruitment mission where you have to fight the 2 YMIR mechs. It isn't challenging, it's just tedious.

The sad part is that the planet scanning was praised by critics.

ME3: Priority: Earth. The color pallet is drab and not conducive for shooting. The pacing is awful with a giant bulk of awkward exposition in the middle, which doesn't necessarily end any character arcs, and then a tedious slog of combat sections. There's a high concentration of plot holes stemming from the obvious rushed development which also includes uninspired level design and many glitches. It's tedious and anti-climatic. By the end I wanted the Reapers to win, just to put an end to it.

ME1: Not really a fan of Feros...the whole thing really.

ME2: Basically the entire beginning. Not a fan of the Laz Station, the colony, and recruiting Mordin Solus (then going back to get Garrus typically for me)... After that it's all gravy... Maybe Grunts level too haha

ME3: Prooooobably Jacob's level (can't remember the name) and Priority: Earth. Felt it was kind of dull and boring.

ME1: Trying not to kill any colonists on Feros was a pain in the a$$, but other than that everything was nice.

ME2: Jacob's loyalty mission was boring.

ME3: It was awesome! There's nothing I didn't like about ME3.

ME1: Feros isn't awful but it always felt a little out of place with the other missions. I don't love it.

ME2: Any of the N7 missions. I like to have a little more purpose or reasoning behind side missions. You can skip all of them and lose nothing in doing so.

ME3: I enjoyed every mission except for Priority: Earth. Anticlimactic, rushed, etc. etc. Plus, it always bugged me that the rest of your squad effectively disappears after you make your final selection. Did they all just head back to the Normandy and leave the fighting to everyone else?

ME1 - Therum. Just seemed kinda empty, with little to do besides driving around in the Mako and fighting every so often (that fight with the Krogan at the end was a big pain in the butt too). Between Therum, Ilos and Feros, you have three plot-centric missions that take place on Prothean ruins. Getting rid of Therum and putting Liara's recruitment into one of the other hubs would have alleviated some of this redundancy.

ME2 - Thane's loyalty mission. While I can appreciate the attempt to create a mission that didn't center on combat, the mechanics of getting through this mission just aren't interesting. You just follow a dude around and then press space bar when you see him enough times to trigger a dialogue sequence. Jack's loyalty mission also rubbed me the wrong way; you're forced to release a very large number of dangerous prisoners in order to recruit a sociopath of questionable value to the overall mission. Doesn't sound great on paper. There are a lot of other obvious candidates to mention here (everything leading up to Lazarus, Space Arnold, etc.), but I'll leave it there.

ME3 - Mostly, it's the usual suspects: Priority Earth, Citadel: The Return, the Citadel Coup, etc. Truth be told, I think the only major plot mission that was more a success than a failure was Tuchanka.
