Everybody ignores the fact that you're part of an Always Lawful Evil race, except in a few dialogues.

Does not seem all that wise; an enduring protagonist can do a lot to make a game series greater than the sum of its parts. If Hawke was the DAI protagonist, a well-made DAI would give people who skipped DA2 a tremendous incitement to get it and play it. If you took to "your" Hawke, obviously you would want to see where he came from, even if that game seemed to have lost its way when it came out..
They're trying to sell DA:I, not resuscitate DA2.
Sticking with Hawke as player character after how badly DA2 flopped would have been commercial suicide. I'm surprised he's even as prominent in the game as he is.

I liked playing as an elf. I never claimed any belief in Andraste, and after saying it a few times, the NPCs I'd commented to it about recognized the fact that my beliefs differed. I was told that the general public would believe what they wanted, but hearing 'Your Worship' just made me imagine my elf rolling her eyes. The NPCs closer to me acknowledged my beliefs, however, such as 'I know you don't believe...' (etc.) in conversations.
I was highly irritated however that the game itself didn't always recognize the fact that, being Dalish, I would know my own language every time it is spoken (and various other things my character would definitely have known).

Playing as a qunari in Dragon Age Inquisition reminded me of playing a drow in Neverwinter Nights 2.
Everybody ignores the fact that you're part of an Always Lawful Evil race, except in a few dialogues.
.....What?
1. Qunari are not an always evil race.
2.People most of the time bring it up when you first meet them.
By half way through game most people already know the herald is a qunari and they don't just up an question it which is expected. But their plenty of times when it's pointed out that you being a qunari is a shocker. Like side comment of people saying "Andraste choose a qunari as a herald to test our faith" or how the bar girl in haven greets you or even how the nobles react to you later on. it just that when you really meet people you already have peoples respect and wonder enough over come the shock you are a qunari due to you actions.

I actually only now began toying with a human quizzy
my elf mage was a complete follower of the creators, my male dwarf rogue is probably an andrastian, in his own way, my qunari mage is probably the athesist, my human is devout

I am not really a roleplayer because I don't have an active imagination and prefer things to be structured logically, but at the same time I totally do not have an issue with the scenario the OP mentions. It is explained very well what the Inquisitors opinion of being called the Herald of Andraste means to them.

I was feeling like the OP, but since I actually started to play and my elven keeper pointed always out how misfitting she felt, the game provided for very satisfying answers. Just listen to Giselle. After arriving at Skyhold, my elven inquisitor had accepted this strange fate and at least wonderes if there was something more to the human beliefs.
