Why does Pyre of the Forgotten have armor penetration? I thought this only works with physical dmg and not with staffs?

I don't know, but thanks for reminding me I need to take the armor pen upgrade off my staff... T_T
Is pyre good? What's the DPS and stats?

It's a very good staff. Even with the ArP (a redundant stat) being there it's still a top tier staff.

As you can see, Pyre has the highest raw dps of all the staves. If only the 14% ap was something else, anything else.

Why does it have armor penetration? Because its a staff for an Arcane Warrior, its simple! Put it n one and check how he rule the battle even on perilous
I've mine with 39% armor penetration and 8% heal on kill, its awesome...

Arcane warrior doesn't use physical dmg. So armor penetration is useless, isn't it? His melee attack is spirit dmg.

Yup, it's spirit. It's a joke stat for mages.
Strangely enough, it's very good for everyone else. I am not sure why multiplayer math for feels so different (on threatening most enemies have 17-36ish armor IIRC), but I found that 27% armor penetration notably outperformed 20% attack (same base damage) on my Archer when I switched bows. Kinda felt silly for hastily salvaging the white bow to use a shiny bow.

i'd even be willing to bet the guard damage bonus is useless

That's only because it was 7% more. It's already been said that attack is better than armor pen.
Let's say the enemy doesn't have 27% armor for you to penetrate. That means your armor penetration is useless where attack would have increased your damage still.

I believe you missed the point of the conversation

Is it possible that armor penetration also effects the chance to block a melee attack? Especially the Venatori and the Red Templars block melee attacks very often.
In that case armor penetration would work with the melee attacks of an arcane warrior and pyre of the forgotten isn’t that useless anymore. Not because of the reduced armor but because of the reduced block chance.

I don't think so. Enemies seem to use a block "ability", like Templar and Legioner, if you attack from the front it will glance off.
I just got this stuff today and it really annoyed me to see my first and only unique weapon with a nonsense stat.
Is there a better staff out there?

I use this one on perilous and it does the job

136 DPS after a superb rune is quite a bit lower than the others, is the mind-blast chance even useful?
