Seriously??

It's as though you've gone 5 years backwards instead of forwards!

I made some really beautiful, realistic characters in origins & DA2 but now, jeez....nothing but a bunch of minging deformed munters?

For goodness sake, if a few amateur modders could give us the tools to make realistic attractive characters why the hell can't you?

Bad just doesn't even come close!

Seriously? I think it's about a thousand times better than the character creators in either of the previous games. There are far more options - DAO and DA2 didn't have an eyelash style selector, or separate colour wheels for inner and outer irises.

The hair styles are pretty terrible, but they weren't great in the previous games either.

I'm not sure if the OP has seen this thread.  This is full of really nice Inquisitors that the players have made, without modding tools.

If you're having a lot of trouble, this thread has helped others as well.

Sorry Miggs I have to agree with Andraste_Reborn that its the best I have seen from Bioware, and some players have made some stunning characters (check out the thread in: customisations >character creator).

OK the hair is beyond bad and it would be great if we could have some variety in body shapes as well... but you can't have everythig

EDIT: Natashina beat me to it :)

2nd Edit; Check out post 43 in the second thread Natashina links!  Just stunning! (Bioware - see what your engine can do, maybe you should take some notes)

One thing I'm actually glad they implemented well in the CC is the eye colours... Maker it's fun to select the colours you actually want instead of sliders.

Only thing I really miss is the lack of a head code or something like that. Something that is easily shareable or storeable.

I already wrote it elsewhere, but there is an entire website dedicated to sharing Shepard faces and the didn't put something that allowed this in this game.

If it makes you feel any better, the devs did confirm some sort of DLC that will allow the player change their appearance.  Also, back in the fall prior to release, they did mention that they were looking into turning the slider positions into easy to copy/paste codes like the ME games.  My guess is by the time it was suggested, it was probably too late to get into the base game.  I do agree that it seems odd that they didn't think about something like that from the start.

I've used Faces of Gaming a lot before.  It's a very good site.  :)

I think the character creator is probably too flexible for this... too many option to put in a string code without it being massive (just think of the hex codes for the colours alone).

The least they could do is expose the slider values so we can just post text sliders instead of uploading dozens of screenshots.

Well there are values attached to all the sliders and stuff. So how difficult can it be to just dump them in a simple string and for sharing it's just a matter of copy/paste. The Face code doesn't need to be pretty it needs to be functional.

I think the hair is the weakest point in character creation. However, that does not damn the whole thing. I had had fun creating some of what I feel are absolutely stunning characters and even some horrid ones. Then again, I have no problem sitting for hours tweaking the face until it is EXACTLY how I want it to be. I've even sat tweaking my brother's dwarf to recreate him from another game entirely with pretty darn good success. It just takes time and patience.

It would be good for creating your own monsters, but anything resembling human, forget it.  The minger creator from Bioware.

I don't really understand the hate towards the character creator. Sure I'd like face codes and for the Qunari horns and hair sliders to be separated, but I still think its the best character creator BioWare has created, certainly far better than the one in DA:O & DA2.

Normally I find it difficult to create characters that look in anyway decent, I always mess up the chin or the cheeks but in DA:I CC it's much easier to make nice looking or totally hideous looking Inquisitors.

You have much finer control over the facial features in DA:I than you ever have before in a BioWare game.

The character creator is fantastic, apart from lack of hairstyles of course. It's the terrible facial animations that undermine the character creator.

Aside from the hair, the DA:I CC is the best BioWare has ever done. If you can't make a good looking character in it then you're doing it wrong.

Come again?  Are you saying that you only prefer humans?  I'm not giving you a hard time, I'm just curious to see if that's what you meant.

It seems like some people have an easier time with some races than others.  For example, I outright struggle making a nice looking female elf.  I've restarted one several times because of that.   For any other race, it hasn't been too difficult so far.   Qunari/human/dwarf were really easy for me.

Here's a sample of my lady Cadash, which I thought turned out great.  I finished the game with this character, and I'm going to miss her until story DLCs start to come out:

It's far from perfect, but DAI's character creator is currently the series' best.

Did you even check out the links I put up?   You have the resources, and the characters look great even with the horribly limited hair options.  I don't see this as "lipstick on a pig."  If anything, I see that you appear to be convinced the CC is bad and nothing can be done to change your mind.  Not even a 167 page thread full of mostly really nice looking Inquisitors and a thread of tips is enough, apparently.

I suspect DA:I's CC isn't your problem.

It for the most part it is the best we've had of the series so far. And there are certainly many more options for customization than there were in DA:O and DA2 combined.

Having said that, it isn't without its weak points. Hair is big one. Besides hair and beards not looking very good there aren't many options, and the choice to have hair options not be restricted to gender was an odd one. Female characters get maybe two or three options that don't look androgynous, and the rest are either male haircuts or even male pattern baldness.

Also it is difficult to get elven characters that don't look odd. The default options are hideous and it takes a lot more tinkering and luck than it does with humans, qunari, or dwarves. Honestly I think DA should just go back to making elves more human-like similar to how they were in DA:O. They are too scrawny in DA2 and DA:I and I think that is also partly responsible for the odd facial features. Something just seems off about them.
