If you're like me and suck at character creators then I can see your point, OP. But it's not impossible to make really good looking Inquisitors. It's just really hard for those who are not good at it. My characters always end up looking the same in the end.

Although from all the pictures I've seen from female qunaris I'd say it's really hard to make them attractive. They all have this "I'm gonna murder you" look and in most cases it's not pretty. Of course the lack of hair doesn't help.

It seems like some people have an easier time with some races than others.  For example, I outright struggle making a nice looking female elf.  I've restarted one several times because of that.   For any other race, it hasn't been too difficult so far.   Qunari/human/dwarf were really easy for me.

Here's a sample of my lady Cadash, which I thought turned out great.  I finished the game with this character, and I'm going to miss her until story DLCs start to come out:

Spoiler

Is that a human female or elf?
I would love to play a female elf if i could create an attractive one.

I have areally easy time making cute elves in the CC, but I struggled making a human which I think is a me problem -- the way elves are designed fits my preferred aesthetic more and trying to get a human to conform is harder, though I was still able to make something I was happy with. I was also very pleased with my attempt at a Qunari lady! Haven't tried dwarves yet, or a dude Qunari or lady human for that matter, but I'm sure I'll hack at it in later games.

Neither.  That's my lady dwarf, Ms. Garnet Cadash.   :D

I'm thrilled with this CC, minus the terrible qunari hair/horn situation.

I've made three different Inquisitors (male qunari, male dwarf, female dwarf) and I think that they are some of the best looking PCs that I've ever made in any game.  I've played around with making the rest of them and my humans look good (I'm just not remotely interested in playing as one).  My qunari lady was good, but needs a little tweaking and I haven't been able to get her right yet.  I can't make a good looking elf for the life of me.  But that's on me, no the CC because I've seen nice looking elves from other users.

I seriously don't get the hate for this CC.

I think it is OK, except the hair. Overall I was able to produce better looking characters in dragon's dogma than here... until I went and got help in the character creation forum. Except for the hair, I have two great looking Inquisitors.

The character creator is really good (aside from hair) the trouble is the lighting is different from what the game uses (especially the start)

I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not. The character creator in Inquisition is unbelievable, you can easily make some of the most realistic, unique, and good-looking characters ever in this series.

...except for the hair. The hair sucks.

I'm standing by my elves. I'd stand by the one human I made....but I'm too lazy to dig through my screens to find her. :P

Spoiler

There are also a great many people in the threads that were provided earlier who would be more than happy to share their tips on how they created their lovelies. If you don't want to go the route of figuring it out yourself or asking for help, then....well...the problem is with you, not with the game.

The Character Creator is probably the best I've ever used. The only faults it has are the crappy unisex hairstyles and the fact the only way to adjust the maxilla profile is to play around with the base head shape.

Any problem beyond that is with the person holding the controller.

There's few weak points with the CC. namely:

the hair selection (both the styles and colours)
the way custom colours seem to be like going from 'all to nothing' almost instantly for some parts (eyes etc) making most of the colour range wasted,
the beards/mustaches pretty much ignoring the state of sliders, which can easily lead to them clipping into the face or be placed off,
the scar selection is similar to hair, i.e. not really anything to write home about

But overall it's pretty solid and far from bad. I find it not hard at all to make decent/good looking characters.

I know that the EA penny-counters would be wringing their hands at this, but I would gladly pay $10 for DLC that gave us more hairstyles. The hair is such an embarrassment. It's either bald, balding, mullet, or balding. That is the extent of our choices.

The cc is great, when it comes to faces.
It needs better lighting, so we get "in game results" with makeup and complexion.
More hair and beard options, and sliders. So we don't have Sir Floaty Beard and Miss receding hairline.

A body slider would be cool, but not really "needed". I do tend to want to make my rogues lithe and small in frame.

I think the character creator is pretty good in this game.  I only have 4 suggestions for improvements.

I love the color palette options for eyes and make up.  I also really like the high res skin, and the number of complexion options.  The sliders are really cool to give you just that exact slope/size that you want.

1.  The lighting/rendering is different than in game, so things that you thought were subtle touches end up as glaringly stripper-like

2.  The hair.  Oh, the hair........ Glossy, mostly shaven, or chunky-play-doh.  The beards and moustaches look like markers or peach fuzz, and the eyebrows look like your follicles just puked all over your forehead.  (The noses and lips aren't great either).

3.  It'd be nice to know what the sliders did before you started using them.  A little preview of what the slider would do at 100% would work.  Sims has that, dunno why DA doesn't.

4.  It's amazingly hard to get attractive elves (male or female).  They all tend to end up looking like underfed teenagers.  The humans and dwarves look fantastic.  I'm not sure yet about the Qunari?

After about 2 hours of tweaking I finally came up with a female elf character I liked--and she's still kinda funky looking.

I know right? It's amazing how females in Thedas all suffer from MALE pattern baldness.

I know that 'additional hair' is not something developers usually add into a game post-launch. But there is a fairly unanimous call for more and better hair options to be added to the game. It's hard to complain when the rest of the CC is So good. But there really is no getting around the fact that we have VERY limited hair options, all of which are shared between genders and almost all of which are either variations of a buzz cut or would look more at home on David Bowie than a fantasy character :/

And all the hard work that I put in the CC to get an acceptable looking Inquisitor, only to have the cut scenes distort the face in a horrible way. It may be a combination of light effects and camera angle but in the end my Inquisitor just does not look the same.

I am happy with the results i get when i create humans but not the results i get from the other races.Bioware has to do better.

No, I believe that's up to the player as my Elf and Dwarf are gorgeous.

I disagree, this character creater was much better than the prior DA games. The only thing that went backwards is the hairstyles, now those were very disappointing.

The trick to getting the character to look right is to know roughly the distances between facial features. The CC kicks you up the backside to begin with because the eyes, cheekbones and nose are way too high on the presets and combined with the receding hairlines can trick you into thinking the forehead is too large if you lower them too much.

In reality, you practically have to slam the eye, nose and cheekbone position values up against the top edge of the slider just to get them roughly where they usually are on an actual persons face. If you don't get those three basics roughly right the face is always going to look weird from certain angles, no matter what you do.

Get 'em right however and "Uncanny Valley" goes away.

You gotta admit, she looks nice.  I've gotten a lot of compliments.  I think my favorite was, "Wow, I didn't know female dwarves could be look that good."

Seriously? I think it's about a thousand times better than the character creators in either of the previous games.

Quite agreed.

I tried the CC and found it really really good. Sure the hair can be better, but overall I think the CC works perfectly. I mean we can even create Daenerys Targaryen!! Fantastic job with the CC Bioware, thanks :D
