I would be happier if the character creator were simply more stable, still crashes too often.

Overall I'd say the DAI character creator is superior to the ones in previous games. When I look at my Hawkes and Wardens I can certainly see an improvement.

But it does fall short in a few areas:

-Hairstyles as people have mentioned. I think there are about 14 choices of bald or shaved... That's just lazy. Just give me the DA2 and DAO ones.

-Hair colours. If we can have a wheel for inner and outer eye colour we should get one for hair as well. And proper black hair.

-Eyebrows, these... I don't know what they were thinking. The majority are like giant caterpillars, and they all look like someone has been rubbing them incessantly. Surprisingly I think the Qunari had a few more decent looking eyebrows.

-The inability to adjust the underbite/overbite. Ugh, a character will seem fine until I turn them to the side... and then I have to go through a lengthy process of moving their whole jaw and other facial features just to try and fix the underbite/overbite that they have. And we could adjust this in previous games.

-I haven't tried them myself, but I've heard that the beards don't fit onto faces properly. A simple option to actually move the position of the beard (up, down, back and forth) might fix that.

-Qunari horns. If we're going to have horn options, keep them apart from the hair. I want to be able to mix and match not be restricted even further because I want this set of horns or that hairstyle and there is no combination of these two available.

-And I know at least one elven mouth kept making the most unflattering expressions when I tried it, had to switch to another.

-Also I've noticed for some reason the white of the teeth on my elf bleeds onto her upper lip. This can be seen the best when the Inquisitor wakes up in Haven, and it gets really annoying once you notice it.

-Some Qunari hairstyles seem to have odd bald patches or blond/miscoloured sides as well.

-Oh and of course the weird lighting, which doesn't seem bad when you get to making Hawke and things are so dark you can hardly see what you're doing.

So plenty of flaws, but by no means a disaster.

My number one problem with the CC is the lighting.  It just seems hard for BioWare to realize that a good idea for CC lighting should be the lighting we see in the majority of cut scenes.   As far as the hair options, lack of a hair wheel color even in the natural spectrum (like making black hair look less like dark clay,) the eyebrows...yeah, I have posts about that going back to September.  Some different hair options and such is something that I hope makes it into the game.

It's the lighting that I dislike the most though.

And for the love of all that is holy, hold still! If I could I would nail the head to the wall so I could at least measure and get the proportions right. If I want to see a side view I can move the head around myself.

I never thought of that, but good point.  They seem to be fidgeting constantly in BioWare CCs, and it can drive me nuts from time to time.

I totally agree. The lighting is at least brighter than in previous cc's but still. It's way green. I thought I had made my Qunari grey and then she turned out to be brown anyway. And then the lighting in the prologue sequence is an overly bright white that never occurs in the rest of the game again so you still don't really get a good sense of what the colors of your character are. And then there's the secondary cc for the Special Ally which is so dark I had to go sit right in front of my tv with my nose almost to the screen to even see what was going on.

Why is that still so hard? Or is it that devs create and test this stuff on monitors with brightness and contrast turned all the way up and have no idea what it all looks like in normal settings until the game releases?

...Anyone calling the DAI CC bad has clearly never tried to use ME's CC :X

I swear that crap got worse each game.

The ME CC was just terrible in general, especially if you wanted to create different looking Shepard's, all my attractive characters looked near identical unless i deliberately made them really ugly

This site was a godsend to me.  It has a lot of face codes for both ME2 and ME3, most of which don't require mods.   If they do, the uploaders are pretty good at warning users about that.

I had to turn up my gamma settings in order to get that special ally customized.  It reminds me of the CC from the previous game, all dark shadows.

I am laughing out loud at that eyebrow pic.

There are literally 2 acceptable eyebrows, the rest are abominations inspired by Andre the Giant or something. Come to think of it, for females there are only about 3 maybe 4 usable hairstyles. The rest look absolutely ridiculous. Especially that hairdo with the bangs. *shudder*

Yeah a lot of the eyebrows look like they're plotting to invade your characters forehead and only look marginally ok on a rugged male dwarf. And in some cases they barely look like eyebrows at all.

Thank you, I will never unsee this.  You're right, but that mental image is going to stick. :P

I was reminded more of caterpillars on their hind legs.

The ME screenshots really show how hard it is to create unique looking characters, they mostly look the same just with different hairstyles/facial hair & differently coloured eyes/hair/make-up

I think it's the limitations of the CC showing itself.   They do have a bit of the same face, which plagued my Hawkes big time.  My first Shep doesn't look a lot like my second one to me.  <shrug>

You gotta admit, she looks nice.  I've gotten a lot of compliments.  I think my favorite was, "Wow, I didn't know female dwarves could be look that good."

Yes she looks good, I should have realised that she was a dwarf as she was looking up.

Is it possible the colour pallette in the CC is different from the cut-scenes?

Seriously??

It's as though you've gone 5 years backwards instead of forwards!

I made some really beautiful, realistic characters in origins & DA2 but now, jeez....nothing but a bunch of minging deformed munters?

For goodness sake, if a few amateur modders could give us the tools to make realistic attractive characters why the hell can't you?

Bad just doesn't even come close!

I get your point, however, some of those "amateurs" are pretty talented folks and some have business in game art and CGI among other things.  I see what frostbite is capable of and don't understand the poor quality of the characters except that consoles are more limited, still a few high quality models should not break the system.

I get where you are coming from, but didn't any of these "talented folks" stop at one point and say: "Ya know guys, these hairstyles are pretty bad and all of the eyebrows look like they belong on Eugene Levy."?

Disregarding the crappy hairstyles it's safe to say that this CC has to be the most detailed yet. Just learn to get good at making characters, OP.

There must be some offset just due to the number of complaints for a mirror and return of the Black emporium.  People certainly don't feel they got what they expected.

Chris some players on PC have major difficulty with CC -minimize time or crash!  You would think a system that starts the game would be the most stable -its not and using special features will alway crash my system!

The CC is defer the best in the series, but that aint saying much as the other 2 were rubbish an i had to mod them extensively, amazing in this day n age i actually feel like i get less options from a company like BioWare than one say 10 years ago

To be fair, that was from those first cutscenes.  Everyone is craning their necks during those lines.  ;)

ewwwww ewwww a eylash detector for my male character fully equipped with full make up options... maybe they shoulda spent less time on these feature's and more on other's like the ability to kick down any door and kill anyone you want the developer must have less imagination and less testorone then jrpg's dev, and to admit that one of the reason why I like western rpg's

Speaking as a guy with naturally long and curled eyelashes, I appreciate the attention to detail a lot from Bioware.

General consensus suggests everything is fine...instead of the usual L2P it's L2CC?

How many people really want to do that for hours or would they rather just get on with the game?

My DA:O character in my avatar took about 5 minutes if I remember correctly (yeah I know...it shows). At least I could live with it throughout the entire game without the urge to barf at every cutscene!

NM let's move on.... Merry Christmas everyone! :)
