We know that they actually banish extra mage elves they do not actually send them to other clans, they distrust easily other elves on rumors alone are easy to manipulate and the worst part is that they are so divided I mean the clans meet once every 10 years for little time. How can you preserve and recover your culture and might, when you are divided. At least the city elves are united and they communicate with other alienages they even made rebellions so to they can get their freedom and they even got political power in Orlais. They actually have a bigger chance to have a nation of their own then the Dalish actually, they have bigger chance to save the elven race from extinction. What do you all think are the city elves the future of the elven race the ones who will bring it back to its glory?

Also who is bigger in population the Dalish or the City elves?

I'd say the city elves have a bigger population,as for which faction has more possibilities to "save" the elven race I'd say neither, since the city elves are not acquainted with the elven culture and the Dalish are completely and utterly mislead.
But even Solas admits that the second remember fractions of fractions and that is something.
Who knows perhaps one of the ancient elves from the temple decides to spread the knowledge around.

I like Dalish better actually. Being a city elf is like living in the projects. Being Dalish is being free. Probably both misguided but a people with no home get like that. Dalish actually get chances to learn to fight.

If they had actually let the Dalish land I asked for in my boon in Origins the people would be better off

The Dalish tend to be more prone to dickishness than City Elves.

A fraction of a fraction of whole who lost everything their immortality their, nation and their freedom. Yeah better look to the future. For example we all know of the mongols and their empire but do we know of Western Xia a state with great traditions, music , architecture technology and advance military compared to others of their time(from what little we know)? But even so they where anihilated by the mongols who had only better tactics in war and its no joke it was a very succesful ethnocide. So I compare the Elven empire to the Western Xia a empire way more advance then any civilization and race of their time but so few its left from that empire that you can not even make a idea of their way of life of their political and social structure a full understanding of their religion the number of their gods and so forth.

But we all know of the Tevinter empire in spite of all the hate because it survived until the DAI day and that is a feat bigger then anything the elves ever had. So do the mongols.

So lets put it this way who has the biggest chance of making a nation no matter the tradition and religion it will have, with the only thing in common with the Former elven empire and the Dalish kingdom being that it ruled by elves for elves?

People are people, whether their ears are round or pointy, some are ***holes, some are not.

Dalish don't have it all that easy though. They have to worry about starving, bandits, packs of evil bears...this is why we see no Dalish in the Hinterlands.

The idea that the Dalish send their mages away because they don't have templars is just... nonsense. It seems we have to accept it since it's repeated by several NPCs but it makes no sense and just seems like pandering to the pro-Circle crowd. If true, then yes, that lowers my opinion of the Dalish in general.

Depends on the Dalish clan. At this point the only things any two clans have in common are their gods, the tattoos on their faces, and that they're nomadic.

It makes sense to me. Why would you surround yourself with ticking timebombs? I don't see the pandering when pretty much everyone lacks an "ideal" answer to the mage issue.

That's an attitude that's promoted by the Chantry. Elves trying to recover their heritage- a heritage where everyone had magic- should not hold to such superstitious nonsense. If it's indeed true and widespread then the Dalish have pretty much sunk as low as they can go.

A metric-******-ton worse if you add everything up.

It's sad too; they could have been so much more.

Not everything promoted by the chantry is wrong.

Perhaps the Dalish realize not everything from the ancestors is practical, at least not right now in their current way of life, and it really isn't. They still keep keepers and a mage or two. Or three. They do what they can.

I just hope their sacrifice of the Dalish is enough to sate their bloodlust; keep them away from the city elves.

Merrill implied as much in DA2 so it's not like this is suddenly a new development.

I think the Dalish have a misguided notion of grandeur. They wander around the dales without purpose, seeking their old way of life but they have so much wrong anyway
Spoiler

At least the city elves have a purpose in day to day life. They may not be connected to their past, but they can be productive members of society. Minus tevinter of course. And at least in the novels, city elves can work their way up to merchants

She was sent to a clan that didn't have enough mages.

Sending your young mages out to die, when your existence is already precarious, is a sure way to not have enough mages.

It's also great that the city elves have more reason than anyone to hate the humans. I hope it stays with them and I hope that I can back them in future installments.

Yeah that was so funny they where thinking that they are honoring their great and proud ancestors while they honored the repressed. Is like in Fallout where a vault made human sacrifices thinking that is the only way to survive while the answer was do not make sacrifices and you are free of the vault so you can survive.

Going as far back as Origins, there was only ever two mages in a clan. Merrill confirmed that she was alienated from the rest of her clan because she was the First. I'm just saying, "Dalish being dicks to their mages" isn't a new development or propaganda to make the Templars look better.

Not quite true, there are hints of other mages being in a clan such as Lanaya saying she had to compete to become First, and clans taking in Aneirin and Feynriel with no questions asked. I always assumed that only a few mages were entrusted with Keeper secrets and the others were given basic training to serve the clan as healers, defenders, etc.

Yeah and later you learned what was their fate. The strange part is I asked a question some time ago about why mages are allowed in mercenary and assassin organizations and the most common answer was because the templars do not wanna risk their lives taking a whole organisations for a few mages. Does this not apply to the Dalish I mean do their really think templars are gonna attack a entire clan of hundreds of trained hunters?

While there are general cultural overtones to the Dalish, ie them not having more then 3 mages. The are nomadic clans and every clan is different. Some like Mineave's just push them out to the wilds. Others like Merill's did trade negotions with other clans, and some like Zathrians just found other ways.  Every clan is kind of its own group that is unique to itself. Making generalizations about them is not that good IMO.

of course city elves are worse off then the dalish IMO, and i like the dalish, but the city elves opression is far worse then the dalish.
