I've been looking at a bunch of threads but was wondering if more experienced players could weigh in on this. I have the following questions about promoting your characters:
1) Is there a cap to how many times you can promote a character?
2) If you don't have all the classes unlocked and promote a character, will classes you unlock after the fact miss out on the bonus stats or are they applied retroactively?

There is no limit i think (since i already promoted AW 12 times).
2)
You dont unlock any classes by promoting, just recive +1 str/cun/will for all of your chars permanently
You unlock new classes by crafting / looting basic armor for them. (usually a CLOTH is a problem)
1. As far as I know, no, and someone on the forums claimed to have promoted a class over 30 times.
2. Retroactively, ...sort of, promotion stats actually seem to be accumulated separately and applied always.
I know unlocking characters is separate from promotion, but I was wondering if I should wait to get all the classes before promoting anyone? Or you promote assassin 12x's, will character you haven't unlocked be missing out on those bonus points permanently?
It doesn't matter if you unlock characters before or after promoting. Promotions are always applied to their current value no matter what.
Promote Assassin 10 times, unlock Alchemist after and he will benefit from the 10 promotions.

You do not need to promote each character to benefit the class, only one of them. If you like Assassin, play and promote that character. Every promotion will add +1 cunning to all classes, regardless of which Rogue is used (same with Warrior/const and Mage/will). All characters benefit from promoting each of the three classes.
