I am on my third playthrough, and i am just trying to understand the story behind mages and wardens as much as possible.

I sided with mages and i am just past the point where i learned that the wardens are amassing a demon army, and i just can't shake the feeling that both of these story arcs have little to no sense.

First, the mages. Time travel or time magic (cliche but whatever). Mages start a rebellion, demanding more rights and freedom, which plunges all of Thedas into chaos.

Cornered and desperate, mages find refuge in Redlciff only to be snatched by a Tevinter magister and delivered into slavery... willingly.

That makes no sense m'kay.

Sure some mages disagree and dislike the presence of Tevinter but still they don't do anything about it, just blindly following Fiona. Dorian "sheds some light" onto the matter when he says that Alexius snatched them by magic but that is rather vague and not so convincing. Also, Fiona shows no signs of being dominated, although, she does shows signs of confusion when the inquisitor tells her that she (Fiona) invited him to Redlciff.

Then the wardens.

Guided by panic caused by the false calling and later manipulated by a Tevinter mage and a cult member, wardens set on a mission to permanently defeat the blight by... slaughtering every none mage warden and using their blood in a ritual to bind a demon. From there, they would invade the deep roads and kill the remaining Old gods and end the blight forever as well as any need for wardens making their ultimate sacrifice worth it.

That makes no sense m'kay!

Yeah I support free mages, but damn they've made terrible decision after terrible decision throughout this series.  I get that they're desperate because the whole of southern Thedas is against them, but they continually turn to blood magic, summon demons, etc. with the cherry on top being entering indentured servitude to a Tevinter magister.

1) If you talk to Fiona she explains that alexius had people infiltrate and influence the mages to want the deal with the venatori. I assume they just used blood magic. Fiona herself didn't have to be controlled. She seems to lead quite democratically. So when enough people are saying they want it, she doesn't have a crap ton of choice there.

2) the plan itself makes sense. If every single warden dies and the blights end forever? Ya that'd be worth it. Though trusting some slimy dbag isn't very smart. Also there's a pretty high possibility they were already under cory's control unknowingly. I mean in legacy, both Janeka and Larius were under his control. Sort of.

3) saying some doesn't make sense and then saying m'kay doesn't count as valid reasoning for something not making sense.... m'kay.

Its also important to point out that most of the mages and Templar leadership DIED at the Conclave.     Everyone was panicked and irrational at that point.   That was sort of the whole point to using the time magic.    To be able to show up in time to take advantage of the chaos.    If the mages had time to reorganize, they wouldn't have accepted such a deal.    Even then, Fionas reaction indicates that she was lied to as well, but they were simply out of options at that point.

The Grey Warden thing actually does make sense. If they really could have made an army of bound and obedient demons, then they really could have killed all the Darkspawn in the Deep Roads and thus ended the Blights and accomplishing their ultimate goal. And since they thought their calling was close then they were afraid that it wouldn't be very long before they themselves would have given in and become something like Darkspawn themselves, so their choice was either try to end the Blight or possibly be the cause of the next Blight. Grey Wardens don't really stop and consider the fact that they aren't really needed except as darkspawn monitors.
