So i bought ME1 at launch but due to numerous things i never got around to playing it much past the first hour or so.
I am now going to start playing it before i get ME2 and was wondering if the official guide is any good or if theres a better one recommended online?
thx

Why use a guide? Those things tend to spoil things, the only thing you really need is the Wikia... it has maps containing those horrible resource nodes.

What Dethateer(HP rip-off

Don't be confused about that "xbox" in the adress. The site covers PC-versions as well.

The Wikia is better. Where else can you find every Paragon/Renegade trigger?

A better question would be: why would you want every trigger? What's the fun in making decisions if you know the outcome of each one (not to mention future decisions you'll come across)?

First time - really, don't try to control everything. It makes it tedious, and a lot less fun.
Have a good think about your Shepard - background, profile, class, and what sort of personality you want him to have. Then just play through, and you can base your decisions on the personality you have invented for your Shepard.

Just play and have fun, the first time I started playing I was hooked and couldn't put it down...

The official guide is pretty good. You can get all the info in it elsewhere but having a hard copy for references to hand can be pretty convenient and I use it for some side quest locations and planet maps. But the game really doesn't need a guide and you will probably have more fun playing without one the first few times.

The wikia guide seems ok if i need it, just incase i get stuck
I think the main thing about the guides was looking for good avice on character builds. What to get first, what not to get and just general hints and tips.
thx

I can't speak for adepts, but if you want a soldier, you'll want to upgrade the health boosts and AR (or pistol, you can apparently get a pistol to do higher damage than an AR) skills as quickly as possible.
