In my play throughs i saved the wardens and first did the war table missions and took heavy losses and then i found the formula to make it not to heavy losses, both my epilogues turned out as they were re building. So i guess while they take losses they also learn from their mistakes and rebuild? I personally couldn't see logic in getting rid of them, as bull puts it, they are the only people who know how to stop the blight.

As another said you need to use the best advisors for those particular wartable missions.  On my second playthrough I paid more attention to it and didn't use them where it felt there was a better (survivability-wise for all) to have it handled instead of just throwing Grey Wardens at the problem.  Going into their final war table mission, the Grey Wardens had high morale for according to the previous mission's report and so I sent them after the Darkspawn to which the final mission stated the Darkspawn were defeated and Wardens had stayed behind to patrol that area.

I hadn't seen any spoilers at the time about who/what to select and it was pretty clear on who to send, when or when it wasn't clear which was the best it was clear which one was a waste of sending the Grey Wardens.

Just to clarify: in the endgame epilogue, do the Wardens (or remnants thereof) always go back to Weisshaupt and get embroiled in a civil war?

They're alive and well in my playthroughs.

I wonder if them getting wiped out is tied to who gets left behind in the Fade? I always save the Warden, and they never have any issues at the War Table. Also, when playing Adamant, you  have the choice to save Wardens or let them die at various points - that might also affect the final outcome.

I always save Hawke and always get the ending where the Wardens are not wiped out. But I also in game always say to everybody that wants to know my opinion that I support Wardens, think that they made a mistake and deserve a second chance. And, if I have patience, do their wartable options. The ending options are connected not only with your actions, but also with your conversation choices
