Not sure anymore. I used to be a big supporter of the new protag in each game but honestly I wouldn't mind staying as the Inquisitor.

Hell, I wouldn't actually mind playing as Hawke again, although with his/her determinant fate that seems unlikely. Adventuring with Varric, Li and Behtany/Carver sounds like fun.

My first playthrough of DA 2 i hated my Hawke. She was stone cold and ruthless and sided with Merdith and killed her own sister (who went mage not warden) and even said "your not my sister!" Geez. My Inquisitor was defenetly less ruthless despite being pro templar.

Yes keep the inquisitor.

The inquisitor can literally do what Cory wanted to do if he/she chooses. They can use the anchor to enter the fade physically and enter the black city. Who else can do that?

The anchor is a game changer. The inquisitor could literally unite southern Thedas and go to holy war with Tevinter. There are so many options for this protag to simply move on to another.

Bioware already stated multiple times that they are going to continue making new protagonists with each title. The DA series is about the world of Thedas as a whole, not one particular character within it. This was how the franchise was conceived.

I personally would prefer if we stayed on one protagonist for change.

One problem I see with sticking with the Inquisitor, even if there is huge story potential there IMO (DLC will come of course), is that it'll set a precedent. If they stick with the Inquisitor for DA4 and then change to a new PC for DA5, people will complain twice as loud and twice as long about it. People are still complaining about not playing the Warden. Heavy risk, but you can finish off the meme yourself.

Really I think I'd have a better idea of if I'd want this after we've had some of the DA:I DLC.

Also I think it could be interesting to have a new PC who is part of the Inquisition but not the Inquisitor. Someone who perhaps rises through the ranks and perhaps even works with the Inquisitor later on (ala Hawke with the CC). After all the Inquisition at the end of the game is an organisation spanning several countries, depending on wartable choices, even Tevinter and Nevarra.

Yes, new main character for the next game. But I would like if we could actually get some post-ending DLC or an expansion pack to wrap up the inquisitor's story.

Since an age takes 100 years, they'd probably all be pretty damn old. Would be somewhat like a corny film about WW2 vets.

Please never again the Inquisitor. He was the most bland main char of all DA games. If a new character gets created give him a playable prologue like in Origin and not only a little bit of text.

I'm very much neutral in this regard. I definitely wouldn't mind moving on to a new protagonist since it seems like we're going to leave Southern Thedas behind but at the same time...

I'm probably in the very small minority but starting over as a new character every time is actually starting to get a bit tiring and stray into "Too Many Heroes Syndrome". I developed an attachment to my Inquisitor but I miss the huge attachment I developed to Shepard and, ME3 ending aside, I felt like having the story told over the course of multiple games made it feel much more grand and satisfying.

Yes! I'd like a new character every time (provided the previous character's story is wrapped up). It gives us the opportunity to try out different things and see different perspectives. We haven't yet had a game set in Tevinter, Antiva, Rivain, Par Vollen/Seheron. It would be wonderful to play someone from those locations at some point in the future, or a group that hasn't been represented yet - like the Chasind or something.

You can talk to Mother Giselle about the idea of the inquisition only needing to be around to defeat The Elder One, so they could have the inquisition disband again if they wanted for the next game, although the ending narration implies more of a lasting power.

If DLC continues and wraps up the inquisitor's story though that'd be great, right now it does feel like there's more to come for them, but I'd have no issues with a new PC for the next game

Yes, each dragon age should ALWAYS have a new protagonist.   Nothing makes a series more dry and stale than having the same 'hero' all the time.   The developers have to constantly come up with ways that they 'die and get reborn' to justify starting out at level 1 every time.   Dragon Age is a series about the world of Thedas, not one single quasi-immortal superhero who ends up saving the world time and time again.

I'd like to see more trades and caravans, perhaps a guild leader or something like that...

They'll have DLC for the Inquisitor so a new protagonist in DA 4 will be nice. I just hope that the Inquisitor doesn't disappear like the Warden and Hawke.

The only problem is that (at least in some endings) The Inquisitor is the most powerful and influential figure in all of Thedas.

  • The largest army in Thedas
  • Spy network easily rivaling Ben-Hassrath
  • Connections all over the world, even in Tevinter and Navarra
  • Connections to various criminal undergrounds, like the Antivan Crows
  • Support and friendship of the Divine
  • The largest empire in Thedas in his back pocket (Orlais)

Add to this, that he is a mage of considerable power, possibly backed up the elven god (or enslaved by it, two ways to look at it), with the tool on his hand, allowing him to physically enter the Fade or open goddamn Fade Rifts inside people.

Unless they somehow deal with all that, The Inquisitor cannot be the next protagonist, because there wouldn't be any challange.

I really enjoy the fact that the DA series allows you to play as a different PC in each game.  Given their stance that the series is about Thedas and not one character, I think it's actually kind of a brilliant strategy to allow us to create new characters with new backgrounds for each game.  It gives us multiple perspectives about Thedas and helps flesh the world out a bit more.  I really, really hope that they continue with the trend.

No matter how any of us feels about the lead character in Inquisition, and I for one prefer to continue having a new hero each and every additional DA game, there is one item located in Skyhold that could allow fast travel there subsequently as the franchise unfolds.

I have no doubt that Morrigan left her Eluvian in Skyhold. It's not like she could easily pack that thing out? This neat MacGuffin could easily serve to have us visit the Inquisitor down the road. Once our friendly Witch of the Wilds became part of the Inquisition, I feel as if she contributed the Eluvian to the organizations cause! So now all any new DA hero would have to do is enter an eluvian to the nether realm and then hop through the one located in Skyhold.

(Awesome)

I'd be happy either way. I like to explore new areas and new perspectives, so I enjoy new characters in that regard.

But I do sometimes miss the sense of continuity and comradarie you had in Mass Effect.

If I'd want to continue anyone, it'd be Hawke. Sort of odd because I was not a big fan of DA2, but for some reason Hawke has been the PC I connected to the most. Not sure that's very likely to happen however.

Spoiler

The Warden ended, that was right, Hawke could have gone either way but, I'm glad we got a new Inquisitor. I do think the Inquisitor should have a second story. There is so much you could do with the alliances and influence the Inquisition has and a new hero would simply not be able to do all of it. Perhaps this one needs a full expansion pack rather than a new game or just DLC.

I think that would depend on the scope of the DLC(s?). A lot can be done, if they're into it.

I think the point is moot. They've  pretty much said it would always be a different character as the main protagonist, and they've established a precident of having previous characters show up as npcs. That would be an interesting idea for DLC, though--picking up a previous character in a related sidequest before or after we see them, or showing what they're doing while the main story is happening. Those who aren't interested wouldn't have to buy it and those who are could enjoy playing their character again.

If the new protagonist has a noticeable difference in feel from past protagonists I'd be all for it. However I couldn't shake the feeling as the Inquisitor that I was just playing as a blander Hawke. And if that's the case why not just play as Hawke?

I understand completely that Orlesian accents are annoying but I'd have felt that bit more immersed if I was an actual native Orlesian delving into his or her's country's politics.
