The only problem is that (at least in some endings) The Inquisitor is the most powerful and influential figure in all of Thedas.

  • The largest army in Thedas
  • Spy network easily rivaling Ben-Hassrath
  • Connections all over the world, even in Tevinter and Navarra
  • Connections to various criminal undergrounds, like the Antivan Crows
  • Support and friendship of the Divine
  • The largest empire in Thedas in his back pocket (Orlais)

Add to this, that he is a mage of considerable power, possibly backed up the elven god (or enslaved by it, two ways to look at it), with the tool on his hand, allowing him to physically enter the Fade or open goddamn Fade Rifts inside people.

Unless they somehow deal with all that, The Inquisitor cannot be the next protagonist, because there wouldn't be any challange.

Well, I feel that future DLCs will most likely end up nerfing the Inquisitor. I mean, they could potentially become a GOD post-ending. There can't be someone like that just sitting around.

I feel the Inquisition itself will probably meet a similar fate, or become corrupted somehow.

That is implayed in the end slides that the inquestion foes are waiting for weakness.

Plus its still more of a southern power then anything, it still has some limited reach in some countries after all.  So it does have some defining limits the more you get away from the south the weaker it gets.

My bet is the leaders that where not directly linked with the inquestion will start placing restrictions on what they can do in there boarders now that order is coming back, so yea nerf somewhat incoming.

Edit: In the end my take on the games, have never been about the pcs more the time and place, and the things going on and how this one person effects that set of events.  When those events are over the pc is history.

No, I want to build a connection with a protagonist and his/her companions like I did with Shepherd and gang. Totally different playable characters, totally different game designs have all conspired to render the Dragon Age series of games a disjointed mess.

Stick with a formula that works and refine, refine, refine it from there, not have each proceeding game seem like a deformed stepchild of the previous one.

I wouldn't mind posting am agent of the inquisition, kind of like Sutherland and his crew. Heck we could even be post of his crew, starting in the north.

Your Inquisitor fell off their horse and hit their head on a rock. Dead.

There. Now we have to have a new protagonist

I think BioWare has stated they don't like using old characters and every Dragon Age will have a new protagonist. Should DA4 have a new protagonist? I don't know, but personally I'm fine with that idea. I love creating new characters and stepping into a fresh adventure, but then again I love a good nostalgia, like what you get in Mass Effect - well, excluding the upcoming one.

Of course. I'd hate to have to play as a psuedo-deified chosen one again. That was one of the things I liked the least about the Inquisitor.

Keep the Hero of Fereldens story in Origins. Keel Hawkes story in DA2. Keep the Herald of Andrastes story in DAI. I like a fresh new protagonist for each game, especially since I have high hopes that DA4 will feature a predominantly new cast and not cameos. Allows for new roleplaying options, a fresh new perspective and hopefully none of the chosen one garbage (I liked DAI and its protagonist/story but I hate chosen one style characters. Id rather they just be an exceptional man/woman who happens to be in extraordinary circumstances).

I just finished the Trespasser DLC as a female inquisitor Lavellen and after giving up the inquisition and losing your hand and having your boyfriend be the villain will be amazing I think even if you didn't romance him I think the Inquisitor grew on most people more then the other heroes and I hope to god Bioware you give us a choice of playing our old inquisitor or someone new I really don't want this to be the end for the Inquisitor or anyone else so please Bioware think about return our Inquisitor

A returning protagonist would be my prerence, but it's a weak preference on my part. Shepard got three games and that worked pretty well.

Dream scenario for me is that you pick which protagonist. All have their pottential baggage. And it would go back to DA:O where the Origins made some big differences.

If it was just one option, my first choice would actually be Hawke not the Inquisitor. They deserve a story on a grander scale than DA2.

I think the Inquisitor deserves to finish her story with Solas not someone new and I hate to see the inquisitor just a NPC that would be like a big F you Bioware please! Let there be a choice to either be your old inquisitor or be someone new please

I DON'T want a new protagonist. after seeing how Trespasser ended which by the way is EPIC, it feels so wrong if the Inquisitor is replace with a stranger that has no connection or no relationship with the antagonist and clearly, the inquisitor has unfinished business with Solas (friend/lover/enemy). so pleaseee bioware. let us keep our inky.

I don't think we'll be playing as the Inquisitor in DA4, but I bet it won't be the last time we'll see the Inquisitor.

I don't want a new Protag, after trespasser the Inqusitiors story is far from over. To me I don't see how a new protag would have the connections they have with Solas hate, love what ever. I don't see how they would want to reedem him if you choose that path.

I'm always going back and forth on this lol but as of right now, yes I'd be okay with a new protagonist but PLEASE Bioware make my Inquisitor highly involved, mine disbanded so she'd be hand on in the effort to stop Solas. He was her love interest and she wants to do everything she can to bring him back from the brink before it's took late.

As for my new protagonist I would like to be an agent of the Inquisition/Inquisition Underground (if you disbanded). I would like origins back for this one, not exactly like Origins but you're going to have a very different background if you're an Elvan slave or a magister's kid, heck it'll be different if you're a magister's kid and without magic compared to a mage. I would like to see how or why you're an agent, preferably something like Dorian in the role Duncan had, but have this extend through the whole game like with Hawke. You go back home and your parents, friend, or whoever is still there and you can be involved with them and just marked by a figure on a table.

I would like to play the inquisitor again, but not in DA4. DA5 should be about Solas and the evanuris, but with the inquisitor as the protagonist.

A lot of people keep bringing up that the Inquisitor is immensely influential and the head of a huge organization, but mine certainly isn't (not anymore).  I had planned to end it since that first Conversation with Mother Giselle in Haven about the original Inquisition (and made decisions based around that ultimate end.).  To a certain extent DA:I actually did facilitate playing that way and I honestly didn't expect Bioware to actually finish the job.  "Trespasser" was great treat in that regard, something that was previously only head-cannon came true!

It's weird (and I don't expect Bioware to act on this at all, they would be stupid to do so) but even without trying I made an Inquisitor that has really no reason not to pursue Solas themselves.  She is a Rift Mage (a missing arm will barely slow her down), allied and rebuilt the Templars, allied with the Wardens (and had low casualties for their War-table Ops), made Unhardened Lelliana as Divine, Cassy rebuilding the Seekers, Cullen detoxed, joint rule of Orlais with Brianne and Cellene and always planned on ending the "Inquisition" when it stopped being useful (or was threatened by corruption).  To top it all off she is a Solavellan (what can I say, I like a good tragedy). :P   There really is nothing holding her back and even without a prosthetic she's still not grounded from combat.

At this point if Solas' story is going to end in DA4 the best I can hope for is that Bioware see's the merit of a balanced Dual PC system (and there is major benefits in this system for a new Tevinter PC as well).  But if not, I have no doubt that I'll be amongst the rare exceptions of players that has their Inquisitor heavily ret-conned to facilitate the next game.  I'll be bummed, but I'll accept it provided DA4's story is well told.  -_-

i like to import the character from the previous game, with his backstory, etc, so, if there is dragon age 4, the inquisitor should be the protagnoist but with new abilities

i'd like that the other main characters are present too

with a new character we have to forget previous chracter(s) and everyrhing we've done :(

Yep. But with the Inquisitor returning as a temp companion or major npc when solas story arc comes around. New PC means new romances and companions and new RP experiences. The Inquisitor story is about as far from done as my Warden and my Hawke(well not anymore), but I expect the Inquisitor to return in solas arc just like I would prefer for my Warden to return in any story arc concerning the calling.
