- The final battle should have been strategic and epic.
- Coryphetits should have assaulted Skyhold with hordes of demons and dragons and other nasties.
- Available Skyhold upgrades should have been more extensive and strategically motivated. For example, the player might have gathered enough resources to build ballistas to counter dragon attacks.
- The entire companion cast should have been involved in the final battle.
- All the Power and Influence gathered in the open world and on the war table should have had a bearing on the outcome of the final Skyhold battle. For example, were there enough archers on the battlements? Were there enough swordsmen at the front gate? Were there enough healers to keep the forces going during the assault? Were there enough swords and arrows and elf-root to go around?
- The companions should have been assigned different roles during the battle. Some of the companions might have perished because of poor planning or poor execution.
- The final battle should have been staged to allow for final companion interactions.
- In summary, all the 150+ hours of assorted gameplay should have culminated in a really satisfying ending rich with consequence. It should have been better than DA:O and ME2.

It did feel way lackluster compared to the previous main story missions, I agree.

I came into the series (Long time BG fan, but just never got into DA/ME when they came out) with ME2.

I concur. I really am kind of sad that I get to the palace and don't really care about if I finish or not. I want to because I like the idea of finishing until I realize the rest is so utterly uninspiring that I have yet to finish but one character. I like meeting the sentinels. That's cool. But that part is crap beyond that IMO. Nothing aside from meeting them is impressive and once I've done it I just don't care. The palace is my least favorite or most hated part of the whole game. So no motivation to go there. And the end? It literally felt like every other fight. I mean hell, at least ME3 was entirely different from everything else. Not that this was good but it did stand out. This? Not much different from fighting the nightmare or an arcane horror with more power. The dragon bit was just something that did nothing for it. Not a single thing other than the well is of use and we get another scene that gives us some half bit of information which while the reveal was interesting, you are left hanging. I don't like that for a video game that takes years to make. Even in movies if that kind of cliffhanger was made people would be kind of WTH?! TV since it's only months can get away with it but even then to shift so dramatically and open up this whole other plot idea feels cheap.

Thing is all the game is just, "everythings rules as planned, next." We really have to wait Mythal temple to be surprise. And then this lame and weird boss fight, that made me feels like "I spend all that energy to recruit ppl, just to kill another monster with 3 guys...."

I cant agree with this hard enough. Just use the mechanics already in place and make everything matter in a cumulative sense.

What's interesting is that audio has been found in the game's files to suggest that there should've been more to that Final battle than what we got. Granted, it's not much but it sounds like the rest of the companions were supposed to stay on the ground to fight off demons and protect civilians whilst the Inquisitor heads up to deal with Corypheus.
(It's the first batch of banter, everything after 01:05 is stuff they kept in-game).

The whole final sequence felt like a good twenty minute chunk was removed from it entirely and was so incredibly jarring it was hard to deal with on many levels, I'll agree. Very disappointing, though not nearly as bad as something like Oblivion where you just watched a cutscene at a very bad angle.

I was over-leveled for the final battle, which didn't help. But yeah, I expected at least a good companion scene like Denerim.

Ah so it's Tales of Symphonia 2 all over again.
"So the Shepherd of of Regeneration will lead this world to destruction?"
"I decided to trust in Emil, in Ratatosk!"
"Ratatosk is intent on destroying the world"
"What you're doing is the same. You're going to sell this world to demons"
"I guess that's how it would look from where you're standing."
"Who do you think you are! I hate people like you who think they know all the answers! We regenerated this world with the help of hundreds of people and I'm not going to let some jerk like you destroy it!"

It's strange and sad that BW didn't make an effort to really nail the DAI ending after what they did to ME3.
I just came across this blog post (prolly one of many) which makes the case better than I.

I don't need the exact same ending as DA:O, but as soon as I saw him raise the castle ruins to different levels I groaned. I knew there was going to be a 'hit him 10 times, he runs away, hit him 10 more times, run away, cut scene, hit him 10 times, run away, etc' fight waiting for me and yup...there it was.
Weird thing though, I honestly thought at first he was raising Skyhold into the sky. It was a jarring transition from being inside skyhold when it started to climbing the castle ruins to fight him.

I think the DAI tagline was "Lead them or Fall". In the end all I needed to not "Fall" was my Knight Enchanter Inquisitor. I solo'd several of the dragons. I'm sure I could have solo'd Corypheshits.

During the last mission, I've had a similar feeling as during the last mission of KotOR 2 (unmodded).
You know, this feeling that none of this is making any sense, because half of the content in this mission was cut for some reason.

Completely agree, and really like the idea in the OP. The ending wasn't bad so much as it just felt unfinished. It's like if they took the DAO ending and, without having us fight our way through Denerim, they just dropped us at the top of fort Drakon. The key to a good climax is build-up, (I already know where your dirty minds are going with this, just don't) anyway, that is what the ending lacks.

So you want him to assault Skyhold with hordes of demons which would make the entire point of Into the abyss utterly pointless you must be kidding. That's setting aside that Skyhold would have been the worse possible place for him to attack given its location and ancient protective magic as repeatedly pointed out in-game even if he had army which a major point of the later part of the game was destroying and denying him any such forces.

I think the entire fight can be summed up by this quote by Varric:
"What, you're reduced to dwarf jokes now?"

First playthrough took 150 hours and was about 99% complete. Finished second playthrough in 20 hours. Beat Corypheshits with level 14 knight enchanter and crap gear. I wish BW would have put as much effort into the main story and they did the myriad romance stories.

Though I disagree entirely with a Skyhold siege. That doesn't work for this plot.
