After playing Mass Effect-1, I indicated that for a great game to become awesome – it required some humor.   So in ME2, they added some.   In ME3, not only did they add humor but an optional DLC dedicated to having you roll on the floor laughing.

Okay, this is my first playthrough of DAO.   Fifteen hours into the game and ran into my first humor:

Frostback Mountain Pass: merchant Faryn:  everything comes with a 24-hour lifetime guarantee  :D

Anybody out there with a sense of humor?   If so, add your entry.

My favourite moments are usually party banter, but if we want something outright ridiculous: at one random encounter, you will see a sudden crater caused by a meteorite. Two adults see a kid in there, and adopt him, in a giant Superman homage.

One of my favourite moments, though, is the highly political dwarven Assembly discussion:
"I suggest we put the matter to a vote."
"And I suggest you have a taste of my family's mace!"

It's beautiful. And don't forget the Harrowmont crier's persuasive declaration, "Lord Bhelen is a... bad, bad man! Yes! Very bad!"

I can't remember the exact quotes, but if the warden and Alistair are romancing, Zevran tries to give shy Alistair some tips on love making.

And of course there's the infamous: "Have you ever licked a lampost in winter?" conversation.

Morrigan's sexual advances/teasing to Sten, until he turns the tables on her, and tells her how to prepare. Then she's like "Wait, what?!!! Now I really am interested..."

What, no love for Sister Theohild and her unique rendition of the Chant of Light? “Those who bring ham without provocation to the least of His children are breaded and accursed by the Maker.”

Zevran: "Is it... lord Loghain?"

Loghain: "I'm not a teyrn anymore. Not even a knight. Adress me as any other Grey Warden."

Z: "So... just Loghain, right?"

L: "Correct. What's on your mind?"
Z: "Do you know who I am, right? I'm the crow you hired to kill Grey Wardens."

L: "I thought you look familiar."

Z: "Well, I just wanted to tell you that I failed, Loghain."

L: "You don't say."

Z: "I'm terribly broken up over it."

L: "Hmph. Thank you for informing me anyway."

That was simply priceless. :D

Abandoned Orphanage:

After defeating fire demon, I reach down to pick up the bag of loot -- which happens to be right near the floor FIRE trigger.

Leliana -- who I'm romancing at the time is standing on the same bag.

As I reach down to pick it up, it does two things:

  • Activates the fire trap so we are both in flames.
  • Activates a conversation with Leliana where she says "Well, aren't you sweet & attentive"

(we're both on fire)

Some of the dialogue options give me a chuckle. They're rude but they're just so out there that it makes me laugh. For ex

When Leliana tells you the stars are out, you can respond with "So? Go help Alistair make supper" ha..to me it sounded like the warden was pretty much telling her to get back in the kitchen <.<

The taunts before the provings where you could say "How about I honor you up the side of the head" or when that dwarf asks you if you want to share a brew in Tapster's and you can tell him how would he like it if you shared your fist into his face lol

You don't know DA O's humor though unless you bring up Shale. Leliana and Shale have some funny conversations, and they pretty much give away what Shale's gender is before you even do her quests, and Zevran's were pretty funny too. I liked when Shale was asking Zevran about him being a crow since Shale hates birds haha Leliana and Sten's conversations were funny too. I liked when she would give Sten a hard time about being a "softie" because she saw him picking flowers. Death, you forgot to mention when she says that the Maker is their bacon ;P

I also liked if you have Shale along and you get to the part in Werewolf ruins where Lady of the forrest tells you that Zathrian lied to you and Shale is like "wait a moment..I'm imagining me crushing his head. There we go...squish" or something like that hahahah Oghren hitting on Wynne, Leliana, and Morrigan is also amusing. I remember when he hit on Velvana or whatever her name was in Awakening and told her he was just the right size(had something to do with hs height being up to her chest area) and her response to it

I had a recent play-through where my Warden calls Sten a softie (I think it was when you return his sword) and Leliana chimes in with "I told you so!"

And speaking of funny dialogue options, I had the bit where the dog leaves a dead animal in Morrigan’s unmentionables come up today. In response to her complaints, one of the dialogue options is, “It can’t be as stinky as what normally goes into them.”

One of the best lines in the game for sure. Her reaction is also funny.

My dear Dale, you have to answer a question for me: how did you manage to play Dragon Age for 15 hours without encountering any sort of humour? :D

Basically, anything that has Sten and Shale in it is fricking hilarious. XD

Hi Nessaya,

Since I'm a newbee on this game -- I need veterans like you (and Mousestalker) to help me out with fun stuff to do.    I love game CONTRIBUTORS like you suggesting neat things to see & do (as opposed to bratty sour-grape juveniles that I have to put on my ignore list).   On that point, that's why I'm over here on the Origin forums instead of Steam forums (no ignore list there).

I don't even know of these two characters.  I'm making a note now -- to find & recruit them on the next playthrough.   My crew is Leliana (LI), Alistair (needs spanking), & Morrigan (ice queen).   Yes -- I remember there was a giant in a cage soon in the game -- I guess that was Sten.   I'm playing the "extended cut" so  maybe the 2nd character (Shale) will be there -- if I can find him.

I'm nearing the end of 2nd playthrough now.  I implemented lots of Nexus mission mods & enjoying the ride.   Pints & Quarts was fun -- especially the "castle conspiracy" (who done it).

On my first playthrough I implemented these mods which hosed up the game -- Morrigan would not (and could not) join the crew after talking with Flemeth so I decided to implement the MISSION mods near the end.

I bought this game on Steam  -- however there have been a couple places in the game (camp & forest where a guy got stabbed) for a DLC download from Origin.   I'm wondering if having the main game in a Steam folder -- will it execute a DLC in the Origin folder.

Speaking of humor, there is a PUZZLE game so loaded with laughs -- it is rip-roaring funny "Sam & Max" which are detectives (dog & bunny).  Some puzzles in Sam & Max are VERY difficult (for someone who has played Myst 1,2,3,4)   Usually after I get the sh1t shot out of me, I like to alternate with a puzzle game like that or some adventure like "The Longest Journey" (excellent).

I look for every opportunity to laugh.   Unless I get a gut-buster once a week -- well, it's a wasted week.

Thank you!!!! <3

Dale,

Shale is accessible through a DLC called the 'Stone Prisoner'. Shale is an excellent companion and has much snark.

And thank you for your kind words. :)

On a general note, in DAO, if you like humour and diversion, walk around each city area and listen.Try clicking on the various npc's. Some will trigger amusing cutscenes. For example, the two chanters at the chantry in Denerim or the wounded veteran in the alienage. There is a fair amount of depth to the game.
