A barbarian warrior companion.
We've yet to really meet any substantial Avvar or Chasind characters in the game series. There are a couple of very minor characters, but that's it. Why not have one as a full time companion in the next DA game?
Alternatively a mage (shaman?) from either one could also be interesting, as you're now dealing with an apostate school of magic that differs from the Dalish. They might have entirely different spells and a different perspective on magic.
My first thought was actually pride demon....****. Kitty!
I'm curious how a sadistic (evil) character would really work. Obviously this character is going to be at odds with the entire group, save for maybe that one idgaf character that he/she gets along with for some reason, but what would really define this character as evil, and why would he/she help your PC on this quest?
Personal gain. Not everyone is there to save the world. Some are just there for their personal agenda like with Solas or Vivienne. That person could be with the group because the threat is competing with their own goal or it's some sort of world ending threat that they have to help you or everyone would be destroyed. There are many reasons. One could even be a spy sent by the treat themselves but act nice when you first saw them.
i'd really like to see a barbarian companion! i know morrigan was technically barbarian but she didn't really act or look like it... that skywatcher had a cool voice B^)
also would love to see abelas. maybe he has a new name, or he can have a companion arc where - depending on your choices - he re-names himself? that'd be cool. it'd also be cool if u could romance him then run off to help the elves *sigh*
though i guess that'd just count him among zevran, fenris, and solas as elven life-ruiners.
have we ever had companions that were directly related to each other? i mean hawke and the sib were related but i think it'd be cool to have two companions who were siblings or cousins or something. idk.
also we've had a spirit companion, what about a demon? like imshael (sp?). he was great. god i'd love a companion like him - obvs they'd probs end up betraying you in some way but it would be nice

Bianca: Varric enlists her help since she knows the area in which they are going.
Varric: Of course
Oghren: You meet him on the deep roads while searching for Sandal about to end his life after hearing the Calling
Sigrun: If Oghren died in Awakening and she lived you meet her instead about to end her life after hearing the Calling
Sandal is your objective but you will have to go through hell and back literally to retrieve him.

A female Qunari. I don't care if she's a Tal vashoth or a true follower of the Qun. The Tamassran really interest me after those talks with Iron bull. I'd love for her to be connect with them.

Definitely want the dog back missed having the dog this time round, but as a summonable extra party member rather than taking up a party slot.
A romanceable Varric (as long as the partner is a Dwarf, he said in DA2 that he was only into Dwarf women).
Would like to see Fenris back and Zevran.
An Avvar would be nice so would a Fog Warrior.

Would also be great to see Sandal and Bodahn back but not as companions just as people in your camp/keep.
Aveline, Cassandra, Zevran, and of course Snarky Lady Hawke, with Varric in tow. I can dream.
Not going to happen because of lack of diversity, but a team full of sarcastic (even flirty) idiots would be my dream come true. Of course they have their own problems and ways they carry themselves, but I'd just like to laugh through the whole game.
Imagine Alistair, Zevran, Varric, young Anders and Dorian in the same room... I would die.
I still want a darkspawn companion--like the Messenger or the First.
Oh and this a a pet
oh and before I forget this.
I would love a more trickster-like character, for example a witch of the wilds who use shapeshifting to around pulling pranks.
A female dwarf; not a surfacer.
I really wanted Lily from DA:O's mage origin for DAI. Not because I particularly like the character herself, but because of the time she spent in Aeonar. I'm still curious about this dreadful mage prison since DAII made tranquility seem like the go-to punishment for mages.
A qunari / dwarf hybrid that was the result of a failed Tevinter experiment. She wants revenge.
