If it's placed in Tevinter, an interesting character would be a Viddathari Elf. As long as it isn't Tallis.

That said I would love to see some DLC's wrap up as many character threads, from the first 3 games, as possible.

I agree. The only cameos I'd really accept now would have to have some major plot reason to be there, and I guess that also depends on what's in store for this game down the road. Like, I'd love to see Hawke/Warden after whatever's happening at Weisshaupt, because it would be super lame to just have that thrown out there in the epilogue to just go nowhere, though this is conceivably something that can be dealt with in a DLC/expansion. Other than that, I think that all companions should be completely fresh faces.

I really don't get what people don't like about a persistent world where people don't magically disappear when a sliver of their life is illustrated. I mean, come on! How realistic is it if everyone gets put on a milk carton after you see them? And what the heck is the point of the keep if all your choices affect things offscreen. The whole beauty of it is that people who live continue to exist and can be seen again.

This one has been mentioned but gay knight in shining armour, female qunari but I would like her to have a personality close to merrils 
Romancable Dwarf any gender. Templar(loyal to the order) companion and an apostate mage that doesn't do any forbidden types of magic and is completely sane and normal apart from being a mage.

Returnees: Scout Harding, Dorian or slightly older, more human Cole.

 

Otherwise: Adult Kieran, studious male dwarf, female Qunari mage, two companions that join as an adorable couple a la Wash and Zoe from Firefly, classic snarky male human rogue, and queer knight in shining armor since it's something so many people want.

If they're cameos, sure, but as companions, it's a different story. There would have to be a good reason for past characters to follow the new protagonist around.

1 - Barbarian/Amazonion type warrior woman.  Lightly armored (furs and tribal feathers), but uses 2-handed weapons.  Think a mix of Cassandra and Bull.  Dark personality.  Cares mostly about proving her strength through combat.  Thinks the weak deserve to be trampled upon.  Approves of destructive, non-merciful choices.

 

2 - Teenage hot shot, in a call-back to KOTOR's Mission Voa.  She's bratty, but also a genius at using traps and other gadgets.  Probably a new rogue specialization or an improved artificer.  She's got a sad/dark past of living as perhaps a slave in Tevinter which she escaped from, and she uses her humor and bratty attitude to hide how much she's hurting.  Non-romanceable due to age, but she could fill a role none of the other companions have ever had: the kid sister/daughter role.  She generally approves of helping the helpless, being kind and merciful, and playing jokes.

 

3 - Awakened Darkspawn!!!!! Come on.  It's time for a Darkspawn companion.  Yes, they carry the Blight, but can't we develop some reason why they can contain their blight from spreading?  Maybe it would be a mage Darkspawn and uses special Darkspawn magic to do it.  How about an amulet or a magic hat?  Or maybe the Awakened Darkspawn have continued the Architect's experiments with the Blight and have found a way to keep under control more.  Anyways, this would be another dark character who loves combat, destruction, etc.  Non-romanceable unless you want to die a horrible death, sort of like what happens if you try sleeping with Morinth in Mass Effect.

Personally I'd enjoy an Elven Mage companion without any massive drawbacks (blood mage...dread wolf...)

 

Just a regular person who happens to be a talented Mage. As for their personality, I'll leave that up to BioWare, though I would very much enjoy an Elf with a neutral standpoint on both their people and magic. As in; not terribly loyal to or enamored with their race/culture but does feel a connection, and is aware of the dangers of magic and is both careful and caution when practicing it.

   Yes Maevaris yesss.  Since Calpernia's chances of coming back are slim, Mae will have to do.  I'd also like Dorian to return (non-romance) and we may as well make the entire roster Tevinter while we're at it; they are so darn stylish!

Yeah I would also like to see Maevaris and a Rivaini Seer as mage companions. Harding would be a good returing character, maybe Dorian too if we are going to Tervinter but I would rather he not be a companion again coz that would make Mae less likely and I would rather have her in the party. 

 

I agree that there should be a proper Orlesian, maybe an exiled Chevalier or something. I would also like a female Qunari/Tal-Vashoth companion.
