Lies. Gameplay/Story segregation doesn't exist. Sylvius said so.

Sylvius means it SHOULDN'T exist, and that he plays as though it doesn't exist. He isn't saying that in reality it doesn't exist.

Hey I said I'd get VtM:B.

I need to pick that game up again.

Stupid money problems and school loans.

Sylvy is on extreme roleplaying

Well, he does call himself "mad"...

That doesn't mean he doesn't have extreme views on roleplaying.

Not that I disagree with him about them, but it's always amusing to watch him debate someone over it.

Sylvius believes role-playing is headcanon, it's really that simple. And anything to game does to contradict that is bad.

My own views on role-playing are more restrictive than his.

Are we in the business of promoting individual trolls now?

or did EA become a mod or something.

I'd say he wouldn't buy that tie in Mass Effect game, though I don't think anyone should buy it

Did you ever play Metroid Prime 2? I always assumed you didn't because you didn't like Metroid Prime 1. If you won't buy Metroid Prime 2, you're a terrible person.

I'll be honest for some reason I can't get into 2D RPGs at all. They feel cheap to me for some reason, that it's a million times easier to make six different sprites for a single character and label it reactivity, as opposed to making everything 3D.

I realize that's probably a little silly, but I can't say I've gotten over it.

I kind of like 2d RPGs often as much or more than 3d... they seemed to have more artistic freedom and the gameplay is often crisper... IMO.

Also the FF series you enjoy so much would not if existed if so many of us hadn't gotten sucked into those 2d RPGs.. ;)

Ugh Bo. 2D metroid is best metroid. I realize how contradictory this looks compared to my views on RPGs. Also if it came to PC I probably would.

Yeah, I know. And actually, FF is kind of the exception for me. Because I can understand games being 2D back in the day. But nowadays it just feels cheap.

You can get it for like $10 of ebay. Just buy a copy so it will be ambiguously legal to get the unofficial Oculus Rift version for PC.

Maybe you should try something like Odin Sphere, it's a pretty good example of how insane and interesting 2D can be in a 3D era IMO....

There's also a game like Suikoden where they deliberately went for 2d in order to increase the amount of artistic content and breadth.

Of course if you just can't stand it for whatever reason whatev.

Lol. I will never own a Rift. I think VR is a gimmick until they manage to involve your brain in character control. Are you talking about an emu?

Heard a bit about Suikoden. Not heard of this Odin Sphere.

I don't know. Is there any one REALLY good 2D JRPG on Steam that you would recommend. I may be willing to give it a shot there, especially considering the timing (the sales, and the gifts I've just got).

Terrible tastes confirmed.

What's a terrible taste? The JRPGs?

Valdis Story is worth a look, but it isn't the best. Same story with Dust.

Not to sound like a broken recorded journal, but does Planescape: Torment count as a jRPG? :P That might do it for you. It's off of GOG though.

A lot of my favorites of 2D JRPGs are mostly from way back in the day.

I would want something that's like, the BEST. Well maybe not the best, but if you were to rate it (I know, ratings are bad, yeah yeah), it'd be a 9/10.

And pretty sure Planescape doesn't count because the focus is so totally different, never mind the art style. JRPGs that I know are focused on combat and a linear story (with an open world, but the story being mostly linear) and an unchangeable protag.

The Nameless One is a set protagonist, but the art style isn't going to be the same kind of fantastical and is a far more open game. Guess it doesn't count. :/

Screw it, I'll just make a list of 2D JRPG gems to look out for or peek at on YouTube. Cuz reasons.

You should play Chrono Trigger like I told you a while back. It's just one ROM and emulator away, or probably dirt cheap for the DS version if you're not the pirate type. Do it nao.

Already have too many games to play. This is all stuff for the backlog. I've been leaving emu stuff like that or Kingdom Hearts or MGS until I have a bunch of free time and finished with most of my new games.

Edit: Of course, that sounds a little hollow when I realize that right now I'm considering playing ME1...

I prefer to think of it as a fan-improved version. At any rate, don't think of Oculus as a shitty knockoff of the virtual reality seen in The Matrix or Sword Art Online, think of it as a 3d Monitor that wraps around your head and improves your peripheral vision.

Dangit, and I'm always thinking about the lack of peripheral vision in first-person games.

But I still don't know which version you're talking about. And I will also never own a Rift because I don't have an extra 200 bucks to blow on a 3D monitor.
