I reloaded a DAO save earlier today and played a bit to refresh my memory, and I'm playing DA2 right now, gotta say that DAI has a much better writing than the previous two. Don't hate me! Now, I don't mean to say overall the lore and story is better and I'm not even getting into game play mechanics, but the dialogue and even codex and letter writing is sooo much richer, more entertaining, and funnier. Anyone else agree?
The writing here is really great compared to prior DA games

The story is pretty meh, but I'll agree the way it's presented is better. DA:O's story, however, was much more connected given the linear style of the game, so it's more cohesive.
Personally, I also think the lore is a lot better, but that's just me.

I think there is absolutely a sense of polish. It almost feels, not quite like retcon, but I get this feeling like, this is Thedas, this is Dragon Age. The level of writing has reached a better point and feels more real. I mean I loved DA:O, and played through it what, five, six times? And a lot of the codex entries in DAI are the exact same. But it's a lot more in-depth, and they explore their concepts and explain their terminology a lot better, overall.
So I agree completely.

It's just so much more clever this time around. Even down to the party banter, which was funny in DAO but not like this.

I found the party banter more meaningful but less fun than in DAO and DA2.

I agree for the most part - certainly found a lot of the companion-related writing more compelling.
