Elven archers?

Also there's a locked door that only a Rogue can open in the Wicked Hearts mission and only if the Inquisitor is a rogue.

Yes I count that as reason enough to roll a rogue.
I really wanna know what's in there.

Haha, take everything you can, and give nothing back. :)

That only leaves you with an overabundance of stuff.

Sell it back to him anonymously or to a fence.

Was Eleanor Cousland a rogue? I remember her default being archery but I think she was warrior class.

But anyway there's not a big difference between rogue and warrior in DAI it's a fighting style not a lifestyle choice. Do you want to be quick and hit the enemy where it will hurt the most or do you want to be the defender, drawing attention and hitting the enemy hard?

Well, my newly created Trevelyan Rogue is a rogue for a simple reason - this is the only style of fighting that really suits her.

She is a small framed, quite fragile woman, and not a mage. She would not fit the warrior class, so she has to rely on her agility and cunning to win fights.

When your opponent is twice your size, there's no shame in dodging blows or attacking udefended points.

And as someone mentioned above, in Dragon Age being a rogue doesn't really mean you're an amoral scoundrel only there for money. She's actually a 'good' person, trying to help others and quite selfless.

Edit:

Technically, Arishok in DA2 was a rogue, and so was Duncan.

That's about it when it comes to rogues being unfit to lead.

I like this angle myself. I find the glass cannon nature of the rogue oddly appealing. You're always skirting death, but it makes your backstabbing victory all the sweeter. That, and I just love rolling up in a Keep, and just waltz by the defenders in stealth, and then uncloak with a barrage of daggers.

I would say that you have limited in your own mind what each of the classes means and can be.

Break down the walls and try again. Let the river of creativity take you to places not yet thought.

One cannot grant you the justification if you yourself do not see it.

Eleanor Cousland is listed as a Warrior on the Wiki. On my Noble Rogue play through she tanked with a mace. She never had a bow and arrows that I have seen though the wiki says she has both Warrior and Archery skills.

And codex entries behind locked doors in the basement at Haven.  Early xp for the win.

You can get Sara to open them if you're a non rogue you just have to ask her.

Does anyone feel like firing up their DAO? I'm sure Eleanor's a warrior, there's even an extra bit of dialogue for F!Cousland if she's warrior class too. I'd do it myself but I'm not near my comp.

Or Varric.  For my mages and warriors it's convenient, since I don't have to go out of my way to recruit him first.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that Origins was the most flexible for weapon specialization. In any case, my human noble Warden was a rogue, but she was still fighting with a bow.

Expand your mind, OP. My Trevelyan rogue passed over title to a younger sibling and became his head scout. She's a huntress and woodswoman.

In Origins, my Cousland rogue was the greatest thief in Thedas. I like to think she started picking pockets because she was bored at Eleanor's salons. Before she gave up her career to marry King Alistair, she celebrated by knocking over a house with Zevran. It's not wrong if you don't get caught.

Oh, and King Maric was a rogue.

Looking back on these characters, I like to think that all of my characters were inspired by the famous rogue heroes of the past. Bryce Cousland taught his daughter the ways of the rogue, Malcolm Hawke, despite being a mage, taught his, and whoever Trevelyan did the same.

It makes sense for the dalish inquisitor. You where a spy anyway so its logical they would send a rogue.

I don't understand how a dalish inquisitor can spy in the first place, surely having a giant tree plastered on your face gives you away.

Because your Inquisitor is a generic mary-sue and it doesn't really matter what they are or what they say

Hey guys I'm wondering how a rogue can play as the inquisitor story wise. A warrior makes sense because they are the most iconic leaders, and mages makes sense because the breach is a magical tear in the sky. Rogues never seemed like the leader type to me as I always saw them as the badass lone wolf's. (well I find it difficult to see mage leaders as well but that's for another time) how do you guys justify a rogue inquisitor? Thank you for your time!

Edit: My rogue would be a male human if That changes anything.

Well, my Qunari Artificer, Ariasaara, led ambush squads as a Tal-Vashoth merc, so she already had strategy and leadership experience prior to her joining the Inquisition. Initially, she was thrown into the fray, and couldn't very well just leave with a rift on her hand tearing it apart. After she realized how dire the situation with the rift was, she agreed to stay on long enough to close it, then return to her group. However, she grew fond of several members of the Inquisition(particularly Solas, Bull, and Sera). After her confrontation with Coryphenus, making the threat more personal, and her newfound affection for for the Inquisition(heightened when they offered the position of Inquisitor to a Qunari), she could no longer leave them behind.

I pulled up a DAO save quick, and Eleanor is......a warrior. I could have sworn that she was a rogue, but that was probably because her talents are Pinning Shot and Rapid Shot.

DA2 and Inquisition make it easy to forget that these talents were all available to warriors. When I had extra points in Awakening, Golems and Witch Hunt, I was basically just investing in archery and using a crossbow on my warrior.

Isn't most of the Orlesian Nobility made up of former Bards with the exception of the Chevaliers?

Several Fereldan Nobles, Arls and even Duncan fit the Rogue archetype as well.

Rogue doesn't necessarily mean "thieving, murderer" since they are mostly known for having a silken tongue but a deadly ruthlessness

Being a rogue is essentially killing with flair, especially if you're an assassin.
