Why is there no option for no tattoos on Elves?

You would think that the elves would want you to get rid of the Vallasin (likely not spelled right) to hind your identity as a Dalish. Seems odd that there is no option for no Tattoo on the elves.

After you've decided on a skin tone for your character it's actually pretty easy to go to the lightest setting of the Vallaslin and then change the color of the Vallaslin to match the skin tone to where it's almost invisible.

That's too much work. The other thing is too that you cannot make your character look younger by using the Skin Complexion option, like you could in the other games. Bioware is awesome at story telling, but terrible at character creation. They don't seem to care that for some of us character creation is an integral part of the whole immersion into the game. I know that it is for me. Awe, but I digress.

You can do it exactly like in the other games. There's just no option for the 'airbrushed glamour magazine model without any pores left' look in the provided selection, even the smoothest complexion you can set still has some actual texture to it. But that's two different things.

edit: also, it's pretty easy to get a look without the tattoo:

takes whole 10 secs to set the custom colour. Shouldn't be a problem for someone who finds the CC an integral part of the whole immersion in the game.

@tmp7704: How did you do that? The elf with no tat, I mean?

Was explained pretty well in 2 different posts... match the "Tattoo Color" on the lightest setting of any given tattoo to the skin tone you used.. it becomes practically invisible.

I realize that many people who play video games seem to detest the glamor aspect of character creation, as I detected that in your response.  Despite that however, I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks.

You don't actually want to just put the tattoo color to the lightest color, but rather try and find the right tone for your skin.

If you're clicking to reduce its intensity, you might as well spend the extra three seconds and make it vanish entirely...

I finally figured it all out. Thanks everyone.

Because it would go against the whole culture of the Dalish. Having Vallaslin is not a choice, it is a natural part of Dalish life. You're an adult? You have Vallaslin. Those without it are considered children. And no one would trust a child with such an important mission.

I dunno, I cannot see even a child sending someone with warpaint on to act as a spy.

Because they're by default Dalish so every Dalish seems to have tatoos.

Also it's because when you romance Solas, you've the option to ask him to remove them.

So the tatoos are deeply connected to Solas and Dalish lore.

Yes, I know it sound wrong because Biware didn't force tatoos in DAO on Dalish elf.

Not my fault, lol.

For lighter shades, top left corner of the colour editor will produce a transparent tattoo. You would have to fiddle a little with other shades, I think.
