A choice like that might ruin every future romance in a game ever.
Oh he ruined every romance for me in inquisition already, I just want them to have a happy ending ![]()

Are designer notes really a thing? Who do they put that in for? Why would the developers put that in?
I'm not arguing the point just curious. ![]()
^ For the people who are creating the scene, it helps them get a feel for how they should make it and what they should include. From facial expressions to body movement to the overall context, especially with a scene that they intended to have a bit of ambiguity in.
Indeed. I'll bring us some Christmas cheer by also posting the song the Dalish sing about Fen'Harel during holidays here. (I rhymed.)
You know Elgar’Nan and Mythal and Falon’Din and Dirthamen
You know Andrul and Sylaise and June and Ghilan’nain
But do you recall
The one said to have tricked them all…
Fen’Harel the deceitful Dread-Wolf
Had a very convincing prose
And if you ever heard it
You would believe every word he spoke
All of the elven pantheon
Used to ignore Fen’Harel’s game
They never let the Dread Wolf
Live up to his many names
Then one foggy Arlathan Eve
The Dread Wolf had his way
“Creators and Forgotten Ones tonight
I'm going to put an end to the fight”
Then how all The People loathed him
As he giggled madly with glee
Fen’Harel the deceitful Dread Wolf
You’ll go down in history
Please tell me someone sent that to pweekes.

Thanks. I guess I just figured they....told them. Like, in person. lol.

I would if I twittered. But I don't have a twitter.
Your words about sympathetic villains being allowed to live gives me hope. If there is no change then...
I mean, you could spare the Architect. I still wouldn't say that means he'll survive [we talk down Saren but he still dies], but there's usually some wiggle room as far as forcing the player to just kill someone.
Designer notes are reference points for people navigating the game files. They relate to the script, but they usually aren't the final script [or even the final notations.] They are kind of like a last catch all to make sure everyone is on the same page. Without a reference point for scenes, all you have is just piles and piles of dialogue. At early stages of the game, there might not even be voice acting or cut scenes put in yet.
Whatever they do with Solas, I just hope it's satisfying. I get the feeling he considers all of modern Thedas to be expendable in light of his bigger goals, a serious case of the ends justify the means. BUT if you take his friendship path or especially his romance path, he stops being so certain about that. Maybe that's what Cole meant by "you're real, and that means they all could be real" and "it changes everything, but it can't".
Also, I get the distinct feeling that, though Solas might kill anyone, he knows that it's messed up and wrong. That's why he breaks away from you, why he tells you that you can't be together and why he must walk this path alone. A path he wouldn't wish on an enemy. It sounds like Solas knows this is terrible but believes that it must be done and he's the one willing to get the blood on his hands to make it happen.
You know what I would like? If he's not completely wrong. Not that the ends justify the means, because I don't believe that, but that what he's trying to do WOULD lead to a more peaceful world. I'm tired of these types of characters always being completely wrong and misguided, end of story. Especially with how old Solas is and how much he's seen. It's just such a cop-out.
Public service announcement:- I'm out of likes! You greedy b**tards!
Holy flaming lips of Andraste!
This is crazy if true, but completely gives weight to my own thoughts about what happened in that final scene. There are so many things going through my mind right now... plus I'm dancing like crazy.
For good or bad, this means Solas really is still Solas! There is no possession happening between the two, it was a power exchange. Flemeth\Mythal has either moved on to another host or is just gone; though she is a fighter, so probably not really gone. I do believe that a body possessed can't contain another spirit - there is no room for Mythal in a Solas\Fen'Harel body - so Flemeth either used the Eluvian to set aside some insurance to come back in other body or at the very least sent out a message to Morrigan.

I would agree. I think Solas likely feels like he already has a lot of blood on his hands. He might not have been that great of a guy before the fall of Arlathan. All he needed to be was less bad than the other elven gods. Then, his great fix ruined everything and destroyed his people. Not to mention the breach, which just added more blood.
Basically, he's screwed up so badly at this point that its hard to stop. The car is already on fire, driving it a few more feet won't hurt. [Until it does.]
The song Beautiful Disaster is becoming more and more appropriate...
Gonna go ahead and post some thoughts. I need to catch up with the thread, but I've gotten through Page 1 and the spoilers in the OP so far.
I'm not really panicking yet.
The reason why and the reason I have hope: Loghain
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until I'm blue in the face, but that was a very ends-justify-the-means bastard of a fellow who ended up becoming my absolute favorite DAO character. He wasn't pure evil, but he did end up doing some pretty damned horrible things for what he felt were the right reasons.
Which seems to be BioWare's "thing".
We also had the chance to spare him... what is it now? Three times? Spared at Landsmeet. Spared from redemption via Archdemon. And can be spared again in "Here Lies The Abyss".
The constantly-still-possibly-alive timeline of Loghain... a character who not very many people kept alive past the Landsmeet... still keeps popping up with some nice content, all things considered.
That keeps my hope alive for Solas. Because it's possible to do bad things for what you feel are the right reasons and still be able to "come back" from it, so to speak. The fact that he was a love interest, even, makes this all a hell of a lot more interesting. A balancing act of what story they want to present versus just how much are you willing to potentially ****** some fans off?
The future is interesting, folks, I'll give you that. But I'm not panicking yet. Because of Loghain.
Remember Loghain.
I will always remember Loghain.

Why did I have to make that choice?
I like the idea of hunting down Solas and making him mine again. I don't know how it will go down I just want to be able to claim him. And he would probably love it.
"I've hunted you to the corners of the fade and back. You're mine, Dread Wolf. You wont slip by me this time."
Then sex.
*remembers Loghain*
Loghain is one of my favorite characters in the Dragon Age series. I feel you, DragonRacer. ![]()
Unfortunately, it sounds like Solas is going to be the next Loghain/Anders. AKA we'll have to deal with near constant hate and character bashing. That's always hard when it's about your favorite character.
Well, I managed to resist reading the spoilers for a whole 15 minutes... I am a weak weak person...
Anyway, the Solas stuff doesn't really surprise me too much. I got the feeling that was what was going on in that last scene. What with Elvhenan translated to "the people" and Solas saying "the people.... they need me."
The stuff on Flemeth and Morrigan was a big surprise though.... Wouldn't have predicted that! So is the Inquisitor now under a Geas to Morrigan? And is that better/worse than Flemeth/Solas.... hmmm....
Holy flaming lips of Andraste!

Yeah this definitely makes me super happy. To be honest, I never liked Flemeth. From DAO, I was on Morrigan's side; I never felt that Flemeth was trying to be a mother, she was just trying to raise her eventual host. Getting Morrigan to be friendly and just like, smile once in awhile was such a hard task in DAO...I couldn't help but think it was Flemeth who made her that way, and I despised her for it. Morrigan and my HoF were besties by the end, so I was not pleased to see Flemeth return in DAII. And then to see her acting all hurt in the Fade in Inquisition when Morrigan told her she was not a good mother? I was like, OH HELL NAW.
So yeah, I'm pretty much overjoyed to see Flemeth gone and replaced by Solas. I'd like to see what really happens with the "spark" of Mythal...was it consumed by Solas or sent back to Morrigan? If the Inquisitor drank from the well, is she connected to Morrigan or is she connected to Solas? Or is she now carrying a spark of Mythal?
I will keep Loghain alive for as long as they let me. He shall never know an honorable death.
...which sounds more evil than I intend. In any case, Loghain is actually my favorite bioware character, and Solas has the potential to steal that title away for exactly the same reasons. Dragon's Age is all about people with good intentions making mistakes and living with the consequences. It has never been a clear cut good and evil fantasy.
I see Solas as someone who is desperately trying to make the lives wasted in the thousand years since the fall of Arlathan mean something. If he just 'gave up' and stopped there, then was all of that suffering for nothing? The people's suffering, his suffering, the suffering of his former friends in the 'pantheon'? The people who died at the breach? It can't just not mean something.
The unfortunate thing is that I don't think Solas is looking at things from a broader perspective. He screwed up, yes. But what if he didn't seal away the elven gods? What if Arlathan never fell? He can't possible know that that outcome would have been better.
Oh! And my imaginary Wolf Hunt DLC is something like this
Morrigan actually acts as the driving force to get the Inquisitor to go after Solas (thinking of non-romanced IQ here). She may now have a good guess about what he is planning and the need to catch up with him before he can do anything.
I don't have any solid guesses on precisely what he is doing at the moment. Except, whoops we didn't make it to Solas in time. This sets up backbone for the next iteration of the DA story.
By the time the Inquisitor does catch up to him, we get a scene reminiscent of the one with Anders. To kill or not to kill. Forgive and join Solas; or forgive and let him go. (I have doubts the IQ is physically capable of killing Solas at this stage)
...
The future is interesting, folks, I'll give you that. But I'm not panicking yet. Because of Loghain.

When Loghain starts wondering why my current Lavellan responds to his introduction by desperately latching onto him with big fat tears in her eyes, I'm blaming this post.

Yea verily. Preferably the kind of sex where Solas is all flabbergasted that you were able to find him at all and you're like HAHAHA LOOK WHO'S WEARING THE SMARTYPANTS NOW MISTER YEAH LOOK AT THIS DALISH BUTT IT'S COVERED IN SMARTYPANTS YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT and oh man he totally does.

I'm sure there will be some sort of confrontation about that weird side plot about the end of the world or whatever, but in the end she just totally wrecks him with sex.

Yes they are a real thing, to give people who are creating the game reference on what they're doing.
2ndly - my reaction to this is, it's basically a confirmation of how I interpreted the scene, the only big difference being the stuff about Morrigan.
