As compared to ME3 MP? The pace I hear is very slow, among other things but is it up there in terms of fun/quality?
As someone who has only played one match of MP, would you recommend it?

It's really fun.
I don't think it's fair to compare it to potentially the best MP PvE game ever in ME3MP
I had a lot of fun with it early. You will also find better items quickly compared to the inquisition ones you start with

It's fun when it works.
The whole thing feels like it was rushed, though. I would say it's in a worse state than Mass Effect 3 MP when it first launched with all the bugs and general lagging that's going on right now.

3 Maps, generic enemies, bucket-loads of game-breaking bugs and no update from devs regarding fixes. I'd wait several months if your only intention for the game is to play MP. By then it will hopefully be fixed and have more content. It can be fun when it works, but the quality is severely lacking in multiple regards, from the loot system to enemy and map variety.
It has the potential to be good - and I would stress that - but at present is fundamentally broken and basic. So again, wait a few months and keep your eye on it.

There is the occasional bug with keys right now, but I havent personally experienced the lag issues that were not likely due to the host. When the fix the key thing, it should be good. The gameplay mechanics are sound and most of the classes are pretty good.

I started playing the MP part of the game for real last Sunday, just in order to do the Weekend Challenge. Gladly I was able to get it done despite the fact that I didn't even have an Axe at first. I think most casual players weren't able to do it at all. I've seen many complaints, even here on BSN.
After that event, I've been playing the MP non-stop. At times I feel like going back to SP, which in my opinion is superior part of the game (opposite to ME3), but I end up playing the MP inevitably. I am already pugging Threatening (which is basically the Silver level), and though most times I finish at 4th, there were occasions I came 2nd. So there is some progression there.
RNG-wise it is worse than it was on ME3, because there isn't a Chest clearly better than the others. On ME3, if you buy the 99k packs you know there will be at least 2 Rares, so you can expect to get some Guns and Characters with every 99k purchase. On DAMP, there are the less junk and more junk Chests, basically.
I hope my impression with the RNG changes over time. 2 Weeks after the game came out there were people posting videos using the best Weapons in the game, so I hope in a few weeks I will get there.
Lag is beyond ME3 could ever be. I am from Brazil, and while on ME3 I could play with people from Australia, Poland and South Korea having some lag, on DAMP playing overseas is always a very, very bad idea.
As of now, I find the MP to be no more than an afterthought with the possibility of cash in by its developers. It happens to be addictive to whoever is playing, but that is more incidental.
I will keep playing it though. After having played 300 hours of SP, it is natural that one is tired of it and wants to invest time in MP.

It does need bug fixes and patching though

It's not comparable at all. They're two distinct games. DAMP is similar to Diablo 3 if you've played that. You have an auto attack to build resource (Stamina/Mana) to use on skills/spells with cooldowns. It's a dungeon crawler, not a wave based survival mode. Combat is real-time without the option of pause and play. Loot drop from treasure chests as well as gold which you can in turn spend at the store for RNG chances at gear. I suppose some MMORPG experiences could be similar as well depending on what you've played.
If you're expecting ME3MP part 2 you'll be disappointed. That being said, I dove straight into DAMP upon release of DA:I and really enjoy it. Sure there's some rough edges but overall the core game is a lot of fun. One key difference is that you can unlock classes by crafting their specific armor so you don't have to completely rely on RNG chest drops to play the class that you want.

The combat is fast-paced (i.e. there is no downtime for strategy play). The looting is what slows down game pace (subject to change as more players get better gears). There are no noob-filters (which is actually more important in an RPG like this), so you'll consistently run into people playing above their difficulty or creating their own lobbies to get carried. The game is equipment-based and not level-based, contrary to the Quick Match dialog. Some new people mistakenly follow those instructions. The game uses XP/Gold share system, which despite how great that sounds encourages leeching. The XP/Challenge system is currently broken where you're not getting your values restored properly after being dropped from a previous game (i.e. referencing an actual bug, not the "game design" of not rewarding players XP/Challenge if they are dropped/kicked). The game-breaking bugs... unforgivable. I have no idea how some of them made it past even a basic spot-check. The armor crafting system is nice, but could be better. The armors aren't diverse enough especially when you consider the armor upgrade don't give you many options (at top-tier). The armor defaults are basically different skins with the same base stats but different armor ratings. The weapons crafting is much more diverse, so you have much more flexibility in options. The weapons aren't "unique" as in one-of-kind so that's misleading for some. There is no spell-crafting, weapon proficiency, nor weapon degradation system; all things that would add give the game more flavor. The peer matching is still as bad as ME3MP. That needs work. The lobby options are currently limited (no random maps or specific enemy selection).
TL;DR The base mechanics are there but if they are wanting to set DA3MP apart as that "game you have to get/play", then they're going to need to re-work quite a few things. As with anything, try it for yourself first before relying solely on the opinion of others.

Just a note on "there is no downtime for strategy play". Depends. The way the maps are designed and enemies located indicates there's thought put into it. That most(?) players rush head to head with enemies - Keepers opening with Chain Lightning and Archers shooting targets before anyone can even see them or wanna-be immortal Legios and AW - which then requires one to act swiftly willingly or not, could be. Still, it is worth the time to flank, prioritize, know vulnerabilities and threats, retreat and regroup, LoS, kite, etc. There is room for "playing it smart" as there is room for "playing it fast".

btw you are not X-Men
They’re actually sort of like mutants in X-Men

I was referring to the combat system, not how to play (i.e. not having to start/stop every other minute to plan a move). I wrote an entire separate guide for how to play.

It can be really fun when it works. But after playing for a while you will come to realize that your toughest foe is not any of the enemy units but the shitty netcode, ea servers, bugs and stability issues.

Come back in a few months when hopefully, there will be -
NO critical game breaking bugs.
More variety, both in maps, enemies and objectives.
A slightly better store. Rng is RNG but the current system needs to be tuned better than it currently is.
Rings and other items with proc effects working correctly.
More armour sets and just palette swaps.
Schematics and a more fleshed out and useful crafting system.
As it us now, DAMP is extremely bare bones. Add to that game breaking bugs and glitches and you get a very lack luster experience.
Keep your cash in your wallet until a sale or until a much later date.

Give it a shot, there's no harm in trying things out for your self.
- Are there game breaking bugs? Yes.
- Can the game still be fun, even with said bugs? Yes.
- Is the game fun, even with only the starting 3? 100% up to your prefs.
- Is the game grindy? Yes.
- Is the RNG complete BS? Yes, but it's to be expected.
- Is it worth paying $$$ for in-game stuff? 100% up to you, but I'd lean towards "no".
- Is there a lot of lag? Not if you're the host/lead.

The first month of ME3's MP was so much better than DAI's MP that it was hard to believe the same studio was responsible for both of them - especially since the vastly inferior one was released years after the superior one! I absolutely loathed this MP the first few times I played, and after leveling up a few characters over dozens of hours of playtime, I just don't feel compelled to play any longer. One major isssue is how slow and laggy this game is, something I never had a problem with when playing ME3 even on worse internet connections. It is tragic and inexplicable how much of a comedown this MP is after the heights of ME3.

...or maybe you just *gasp* like ME3 combat more than DA combat? They're two distinct games from the same developer. I mean did you hate on Dragon's Dogma because it didn't play like Resident Evil? Expansion support for DAMP is coming, just have some patience.

- More than it should have and surprisingly none has been fixed in over a month. Which is below Bioware ME3MP standards.
- It has potential.
- It is certainly fun. The Archer and the Keeper are awesome. The Dwarf is a questionable choice for a starting character, most people might not want to play an pure Tank right away and on the lowest difficult level. But well, Bioware wanted to sell this game as a pure teamwork experience, so based on that, the Dwarf is ok.
- Surely grindy.
- The RNG is way worse than ME3MP, for reasons I have stated before.
- That is an individual matter. But surely Bioware has tried to facilitate it eliminating that old Bioware Points system and adding the Platinum one.
- You can't play with friends from different continents. Yes, the host won't lag, but the others will, badly so.

That's not to say the single player isn't worth playing as some users apparently only think multiplayer exists. SP is excellent and plays just fine.
I believe there are many more people interested in SP than in MP. BSN SP forums are very busy. Besides, the SP is indeed a great experience, and by itself it is worth the price tag.

It lacks content, any functional semblance of a progression system, and has several just outright game breaking bugs.
I'd say wait for someone to "do it better", like Digital Extremes did with Warframe to 3rd-Person Shooters w/Magic-Powers. Your time would be better spent finding a different fantasy 3rd-person action/RPG/looter.

...Dragon's Dogma...
Holy ****! Dragons Dogma was the dogs bollocks!!
So much fun and replayability and in what is a relatively small game world.
Goddamn, that game had so much potential on top of it's already very enjoyable gameplay.
Can we talk about Dragons Dogma?
I'm also willing to ****** about a lack of a Dragons Dogma 2, if you'd prefer?
I can also slag off Capcom instead of BiowarEA aswell, I'm an equal opportunities consumer.

Man I could totally nerd out over some Dragon's Dogma but...it'd derail the thread even further. My dream / pie-in-the-sky RPG would be BioWare level character development and world building with Capcom level fighting mechanics. All with some form of multiplayer. I'd seriously **** my pants.
