So I am on the Storm Coast and I am making my way down to where you would spot the dragon and giant. I approach them just to observe them fight because I know usually the dragon wins and flies off. I am at level 9 and just too weak to take  them on, so I watch.

 

Well the giant is pommeling his fists into the ground and the dragon is shooting off electrical balls. Well what happens next really made me burst into tears from laughter and wished I had a way to capture it. The dragon does a swipe with his claw and knock the giant into the air and across into the ocean. The giant has no way to get back to solid ground and falls and dies and the dragon flies off in victory! The half rib cage that came from the giant appears  right in front of me  and I pick up the loot. Lesson for the day is don't mess with a dragon near a body of water. He might knock you into it!

 

I would called that a ringout but seriously it just made my day to see that!

i might just have to sit back and watch next time, instead of killing the giant myself, just for a laugh.

yeah usually I head down to the storm coast after getting back from Val Royeaux when I go to recruit the Iron Bull. It is pretty much suicide at my level and armor stats to take them on both.

both times i went there, the dragon always flew away, even if i attacked it, so i only ever had to kill the giant.  i would usually go there after recruiting vivienne and sera, too.  i think i was around the giant's level.

You want to get close enough so you trigger them actually fighting and not looking like they are fighting from a distance. You don't want to engage them and just let them fight it out. The dragon will either kill the giant or fly away leaving the giant to where you can come in to take the rest of his life bar away.

 

I know sometimes in dragon fights I am bounced into the air  by the tail swipe.

Useualy you can take thr giant arround lvl 4 or 7. the dragon tends to fly away. and you get dialog from Sera and Bull.

ive seen quizies get shot across the water and the giant fall in a few times.

In this last game, I was standing as far away as possible, where I could watch them fight and thought that when the dragon killed the giant, I might miss out on the giant loot, but no, the loot appeared at my feet.

Saw the giant get launched into the air the last time I saw them fight and it died when it hit the ground in earlier in my current playthrough.

 

In my first playthrough, I watched the dragon kill the giant and it looked right at me.  My immediate thought was "Oh...... ****!"  Then it spit a lightning ball at me and I started to move out of the way only for it to hit a fallen tree that was in front of me.  Then it flew away.  I like to think of it as the dragon giving me a warning.
