Wait, you think DA2 was the best written in the series?

DA2 was the most unique and the least "safe" story in the series.  I commend them for trying to make a small, personal, more "literary" narrative in the huge genre fiction black hole that is video game narratives.

It had a lot of good concepts behind it (though I think Act III is a failure even in principle). I just don't think the execution worked out at all, which is why I was surprised.

I very much do. It is personal, it makes me motivated and I feel it on "my" skin what is happening. I can easily relate and connect.
While the characters are better in DA:I, DA:2 offers a lot of unique content and variability for those who can see the details and don't mind if there are factors in life you can not change. Like me. I don't mind if Meredith goes insane no matter what I do, or that the Arishok loses it and attacks. Having things beyond my control makes the world feel more real, not me less impactful.

Hawke's story is the most enjoyable for me.

If you are wondering whether to get this game now on PC - in my opinion right now it is worth it for the story/characters/environments/music/dragons.

However note that I am playing with mods to make the game enjoyable and feel less of a console port. The walking mod for instance has changed my whole gameplay experience. I also play alot of action RPGs, so WASD movement I'm used to - others may not be impressed with the still lacking click-to-move functionality. As I'm also a strategy gamer I also find the dumbed down tactics system a let down.

The actual action gameplay itself is fun but without a proper tactics system and working tactical camera the tactical/strategic aspect of the game is frustrating to say the least. Just play on normal or hard with friendly fire turned off.

Preface:  I lke ME1 to ME3 including the ME3 horde mode.  I like DAO but hated DA2.  I only play kb/m on a PC.

I've read about the problems with the PC.  Have the latest patch fixed this game for PC users?

I wouldn't buy this just now, wait to see whether they fix all the problems on their blog page or in these forums.

Instead, have a look at Divinity: Original Sin, it's a great game that has the spirit of the previous Bioware games when they were still enjoyable (NWN, maybe DAO) and isn't crippled by bugs. I started playing it when I saw all the problems with DA:I and realized they were not addressed, and I haven't looked back since :)

@ OP

You may wish to dble-check your system specs vs Recommended specs for the game. This could help in preventing issues. Some like myself are having little troubles, and the earlier patches have been fine for my own game. Also checking the patch notes could help in relieving anxiety over a specific issue that may be of interest, if there is something particular that has you curious.

... You should wait as long as you are able to! SERIOUSLY ...

Spend as little money as possible on the base title. $30 should be your maximum. Because, you will suffer from MAJOR disappointment pretty much regardless! There is nothing to be done about this title anymore that will save it ... THE END! There is no nicer way to say it really ...

(I will spare you the specifics - the forum is full of it...)

  1. Wait until more patches have come out.
  2. Wait until DLC's have come out. But do NOT buy any DLC before you have played the game for at least 20 hours!
  3. Thank me later.

Sry for the short OT. But there is a walking mod...I mean slow walking Key for PC? A legal mod, that you can use safe?

What do you mean legal? This is a fan mod but it's not illegal.

Any mod can corrupt your saves and cause issues. Even Bioware DLC.

They did what they could with the very little time they were given. In that regard they did wonders... until Act III which was filled with WTF moments all over.

Personally, the parts of DA2 I question are with the kiting Boss fights, and the rather rapid mental state of Orsino. Meredith is explainable, but the insta-Blood magic switch still makes little sense to me.
