Quicklier? Now there's a word I haven't heard since, oh, before you were born, young Skywalker...
Seriously, though, I'd just appreciate a tentative timeframe so I can go back to checking the site twice daily instead of 20+ times a day.

The last beta build that was sent out to us was after it had gone gold as Adinos mentioned. During that time, many of us downloaded and began testing this particular version, the version that would have become the public one.

Something was found, reported and here we are.

The outcry of this is much better than what would have happened if it was allowed to go out with the issues that was found. Be happy it was caught at the last minute because it would have caused problems for everyone, not just a select few.

And Jassper , you are forgiven.Posted Image

SO what exactly was the bug? Just curious.

We don't know. Some people in the beta had issues with parts of the toolset, most minor, a few major, but this might have been something that BioWare discovered in-house.

The bottom line, however, is that the toolset has been pretty close to being finished for quite a while now, but they were working on it right until launch date (and as I said earlier, the beta people got the last beta version on the 29th).

There simply was not much time for testing what was (probably) supposed to be the final end-user version, and it seems quite reasonable to me that some "last-minute" issue came up.

Still, it would be nice to get a one-line official statement, even if it is just a "we found a potentially serious bug in component X" or "the legal department just pointed out that we did not have redistribution rights for component Y" and some guess on when the issue will be resolved.

I don't think people are too irritated about the delay - last-minute glitches can always happen, and besides, most people are probably either busy waiting for the game (in the case of most Europeans) or busy playing it - the toolset can easily wait a few days. However, the lack of communication is a bit of a concern.

Something about the Data on the Hard drive would manifest itself, under certain conditions, into an actual living Darkspawn that would wreak havoc onto the world - something Bioware didn't want to be responsible for.

You know, as long as it is the toolset people who are working on it, there's a good chance it is not related to licensing issues but to technical ones.

Now, if a Bioware IP lawyer comes ant tells us he is working on it, then we know that we have a serious problem.

I think I'd rather get a complete and working Tool Set than one that has issues and problems coming out of the gate. What ever the bug is, I'm sure it was a show stopper or else they would have released it and then patched it later. Regardless, we have an amazing game to play until that time.

As long as I get the toolset in a reasonable amount of time AND it is the toolset promised us as advertised and not gimped because they think it will cost them money or lose them DLC revenue then I dont mind mind waiting.

For some reason, the implications of this thought terrifies me. EA is ruled by profits above all else, and I'm pretty sure they don't give a flying crap about player-made content. If anything, I'm willing to bet that they tried to quash the toolset late in development.

Edit: I also sense that there may be some growing tensions and friction between EA and Bioware. While the PR guys say everything's all hunky-dory, I don't believe a lick of it. Publishers and developers have ALWAYS clashed.

I didn't buy the game, I bought the toolset. I'm going to be using it to put together modules for a design portfolio. I was working on the NWN2 set, but it crashes every time I try to use the Appearance Wizard, and you need silly hacks to staple an NPC to a chair and not have him swivel around in the chair as he talks to you. I was surprised to look into the install folder and not find a separate executable.

If it is some legal crap holdup that's pretty lame. Can we at least have the beta, then, in the meantime? Aren't there legal ramifications to saying a product is a suite, and then selling only one part of it? I'm not saying anything ridiculous like we can sue, but if the lawyers are involved, you think they'd have every base covered.

In the meantime, I've switched out of the modeler (NWN), and am cranking out dialog trees in Word that can pasted in later, but I hope it's not going to be a month or something ridiculous. I would like one concrete "one week" or "don't hold your breath".

Dude, you seriously need to go make your tinfoil hat.  I understand you don't like EA, but after talking to a lot of the Bioware guys, as well as a couple of the EA guys at the Warden's Quest event in London last week, I can tell you that EA has been almost completely hands off of anything not related to marketing for Dragon Age.  They had virtually no creative input on the development of the game, or any decisions involving the gameplay or toolset itself.

*tapping fingers eagerly in anticipation*

I just want to pop the hood open and see how they did it. I'm really starting to enjoy the game.(I'm thinking about in my sleep) But, as was said before, I'd much rather wait and a get a decent product than get a big load of poo. That would just turn me off completely. Good for you Bioware. Be responsible.

I dont understand why people blame every "problem" on EA. Especially when the company that made the game has taken responsibility.

Because nearly every IP EA has touched that came from an independently-operating studio has naturally gone to crap over time?

This one is not convinced. Tinfoil hat? No thanks. I'm just a bit more or less tired of the lack of answers. All we get are, "It's coming, we're fixing", etc etc. Sor-RY! Not good enough! I want concrete, straightforward answers. Is that so hard to get?

Frankly, If I were King, I would have ordered a tooth pulled out of the mouth of the person that speaks each time he lies or fails to make a honest, transparent response.

Give it a week or two. This is NOTHING at the moment.

Look at Medieval 2: Total War. It took months for it to be playable. Empire took even longer. And NWN2? It's still an unplayable mess on my PC (which is a monster).

As pessimistic as I am, I'm enjoying the Official Campaign enough to actually excuse the tool set delay. Plus not dabbling in the tool set means I won't be tempted to uncover storyline spoilers and such, which is always a plus. 20 or so hours into the game (maybe more, I'll have to check) and yet the completion tracker said I'm 1/3 through it. Hopefully the choices in this game really do effect the outcome of the ending(s), unlike the Witcher, where you have "options", but the actual ending remains the same, which was disappointing.

Enough of my rambling, I must be going, I've an Urn to find...

I was under the notion that EA were the ones who were behind BioWare assigning a seperate team of designers to work on the premium downloadable content and future patches? Might I add that the premium content, storyline-wise, is somehow supposed to work it's way into the storyline of the Official Campaign? Also - if EA didn't have any involvement with the tool set itself, then that would explain everything. If EA wasn't involved with the tool set, they probably didn't know that they would have to go to the 3rd-party software engineers (FaceFX, SpeedTree, etc.) to get their permission to release iteration of THEIR applications on Dragon Age's tool set....
