ME 1 It was original, alien, and seemed like the whole game universe was a open book to delve into.

ME1
Too much work and love put into that game, even if that took its toll on polishing.

But upon reflection, I realize that most of the negatives were noticed due to the fact I had ME3 hyped up to extreme levels, and it was also the first game for which I followed the Bioware forums (which, you know, led to more info and more hype...). With ME1, I just picked it up because of some videos I saw online, and ME2 followed suite and I picked it up right after the first one.
They were minor nitpicks, but for all the ''bad'' ME3 had, it also had some of the very best. Gameplay was excellent, squad mate interactions were the best of the trilogy. It had the most ''best'' missions of the trilogy. Stuff like Tuchunka brought me to an emotional level, something no game had ever done before. Music hit right in the feels, choices were (mostly, you can never have it all
And I'll also say that ME3 had the highest stakes and tension in the trilogy. Everything from the Tuchunka decision, to all the deaths you experienced (Thane's and Legion's was a punch in the gut). The game even forced me to do a Renegade action without thinking, during the Citadel Coup when you get a chance to shoot Udina. I still can't explain why my finger pushed the button, was just something subconscious that told me Udina had to go down that moment.
So while I nitpick ME3 for not having enough, for not doing enough, etc., it's still my favorite in the trilogy

ME2 gets my vote. Most of the game was focused around your party members, which Bioware does well. And there were more characters to choose from, which only makes an RPG better. Gone are the days when you had a plethora to choose from, but ME2 tried.
ME1 had the best story and villain. The main plot goes down hill from there, culminating in the steaming pile of feces that was ME3.

Im sure bioware would agree with me on this when I say. There is no actual vote to be made here.
Reasons for this cause every game has its uniqueness which makes the game epic in its own way.
This is why each game has its own popularity and love for the story at which it takes place.
I personally can say I vote for them all. My reasons are the following
ME-1 - Opening concept of a hero being born and a legend being made aswell as friendship and allies being built up for
something epic in a future game (ME2)
ME-2 - Mid Story. Strong friendships and relationship where made here. Along with back story we never knew about.
Huge story climax (lots of DLC)
ME-3 - End game - Love is in the air. Along with thousand of reapers (lets no go there lol) The storyline ending was amazing
learning of what really started it all. Back story even further then ME1. Lots of dlc/mp here. Epic battle with a sweet playthrough.
So see if you look at all of the positives in each game. Everyone of them is just as good as the last.
Bioware did a hell of a job here. This in my opinion is one of the (Quote) Best DAMN! game ever made in this time.
Beautiful graphics, beyond epic story, battle control, textures, modeling. Music and conversations between characters.
Hell YEA! You cant get this even out of awesome movies. This makes transformers look like camel mud. lol (Dont Ask)
So thanks bioware. Did a f'en good job. Keep it coming.

I voted ME3. For me, nothing in the series beats the conclusions to all of the storylines and ideas from throughout the trilogy, and looking back on all Shepard has achieved. Plus, I love the atmosphere of the game - there's a constant threat and urgency, but Shepard is finally given the respect and authority he/she deserves, and is getting the job done.
Not to mention that it makes me more teary than any other game I've played.

I felt that ME2 was the strongest overall due to the larger variety of dialogue options and decisions that Shepard can make.
However, I feel that the DLC content for ME3 was the best of the entire trilogy.

I voted for ME2 because I really enjoyed the gameplay, felt the characters were given more depth (especially with personal missions) and the risk factor of losing any of them in the Suicide Mission (without spoilers) made the ending feel more intense and satisfying.

I definitely voted for ME2...I loved the characters in 2, and how they utilized the villians from 2 for a time to show they weren't always as crazy. It had the best story and by far the best ending for me in a mass effect game. I got to actually you know have an effect over how it ended, versus stupid color code choose one from crappy three's ending. 1 Yes had the best customizations and such, which is a true rpg style, but the Combat from 2 and 3 easily outweigh 1. An I hated how they took away the great companions in 3, made the new ones so bland and crappy. Yep 2 is definitely the best to me.

i loved the first one, maybe it was because we are introduced to the universe, because of noveria, the rachni, virmire, ilos, feros, the conversation with sovereign (virmire).
maybe it is because i was stoned for most of it..
who knows?

At first I thought this would be a hard choice but then I realized it was quite obvious, and ME2 wins it for me.
ME1 had a fantastic story and set out the lore but the gameplay was quite awful and made each playthrough quite a drag (but very much worth it). ME3 had it's peaks in storytelling for sure but it sadly had very big lows, sadly overshadowing the whole experience.
ME2 is the hight of the series, a rich and complex set of characters, a story based on understanding this divers cast, the complexification of cerberus, new vistas like Illium etc and of course the greatest climax in any video game.
God I miss those characters.

It was tough call for me. Even though ME 3 is my personal favorite I ended up voting for ME 2. Here is why, out of all three games I feel that ME 2 has the most to offer in terms of location variety (both hub and non hub worlds), enemy diversity, different mission types (not all missions are go in and shoot everything), solid DLC line up, and a large squad you can mix and match, the option to use heavy weapons any time I wanted and I could equip what heavy weapon I wanted to use, and last but not least it felt like it was the most polished game in terms of technical performance. The game just runs nice and smooth.
If anything I hope bioware looks closest at ME 2 when developing ME:next

I own a PS3 so i never played ME1.
Between the other two, my vote went to ME2.
It´s the game that went straight to my Top 3, alongside MGS 3 Snake Eater and Final Fantasy.
Suicide Mission (from the moment you go through Omega-relay until the end credits) is one of my favorite(if not THE favorite) sequence in the whole series ; the fabulous music, assigning tasks to my team members , the fear of any of them dying, all the squad involved in different parts of the mission, etc, it was all great.
In my opinion, they didn´t replicate the same intensity/suspense/thrill in ME3 last mission.

Can I vote all of them? 1 for great elevator music and quotes from squadmates xD
2 FOR THE EPIC SUICIDE MISSION music, Omega Music and Tali soundtrack... also the number of squadmates you can bring and consequences you make
3 for gameplay and map design but for the storyline? convoluted in the last part

I remember when these types of threads used to pop up a few years ago I used to get into pissing contests with with ME 1 fans over what was better that or the sequels. But that was stupid to do. I love all three games and while they have changed over time I view it all as one body of work.

for those who keep repeating that me 3 had "the best squadmate interaction" which interaction is that exactly? were it not for the citadel dlc there would hardly be any. When i first played through the game, before the dlc, i remember clicking on them after every major mission and there was nowhere near the same level of bonding or interaction as in ME 2. Hardly any cutscenes, or conversations or proper bonding. Ive been doing a ME marathon and i always get slightly depressed when i get to 3 because of the idiotic writing and lack of character interaction- The most cringey moments in the entire trilogy i found in me 3, like all the idiotic crap shep says in the intro, not to mention that melodramatic and cheesy scene with an incapicated kaidan/ashley at the hospital.

There are more conversations with your squadmates in ME3 than there are in ME2. How many conversations does Garrus have in ME2 if he's not a LI? Maybe two or three at most before you get the calibrations routine. Thane, Samara & Grunt don't have a whole lot to say either. Compare Javik to Kasumi & Zaeed...it's not even close. Javik has more dialogue than both of those two combined.

Add to that in ME3 squadmates talk to each other without Shepard more often and they move around the ship. There are more conversations with your squadmates in ME3 than there are in ME2.
