I've always wondered what the real world equivlent of the languages spoken in Thedas would be.
We know that "Common" - spoken by almost everyone in Thedas (likely for trade or diplomatic reasons - Although I am unsure of what country it would have originated from) = English
And we know that Orlesan = French
But what about the others?
Personally I'd think
Antiva = Spanish
Tavinter = Latin (Italian?)
Rivain = Portuguese
I'm not sure about about the other countries. Let alone the other races.

There is Common, made by the dwarves for Trade with the surface.
There is Tevinter.
There is Dwarvish
There is Elvhen.
And a bunch of tribal languages in between. There is no Orlesian or Antivan. Not that I've heard of.

There is indeed Orlesian, represented in-game by French.
Side-note: I love how Alix Wilton-Regan's French background means every French word was perfectly pronounced, even in sentences otherwise filled with English and fantasy words.

Considering that's the only I've heard of it, it being a random bard, I really don't know. I've never heard of it anywhere else.

I'm basing my guess on both Orlesian and Antivan on accents. And in the case of Antivan, some Antivans in game do say words in Spanish. Zev for example, when you romance him saids "Si Amor" randomly when you switch to him. And with Orlesian, well France was the starting inspiration for Orlais, and many of the names of prominent Orlesians sound very french. As does their towns. Seriously Val Royeaux? - Sounds very french.

A huge amount of the Orlesian terms are French as well, like the titles of nobility, names of institutions etc.

I'm assuming that means Fereldan, is British then?
Free Marchers are lacking accents to me, or at least that's their accent to other cultures
there's also the qunari tongue

Yeah, Zevran dropped Antivan words here and there. Some of it's Spanish (si amor/a), some of it's made up (atiya nagrano, braska).
Phrases are one thing, but I think we'd hear about an entire language at least somewhere.

Antivan is Spanish/Italian hybrid.
Tevene is Latin
Common/King's Tongue is English
Then there's Elvhen, Dweomer (which is largely forgotten), and Qunlat.
Everything else are just guesses or 'what makes sense'.

Do Tevinter speak whole sentences? Or just words?

We already know Tevinter has it's own language, because the codex on dwarves said that they created Common to trade with Tevinter. I believe Dorian speaks it quite a bit as well.

According the the Dragon Age RPG tabletop game, which BioWare sells in their store:
"You learn an additional language from the following list: Ancient Tevene, Ander, Antivan, Arcanum, Dwarven, Elven, Orlesian, Qunlat, Rivaini, Trade Tongue."
So the languages exist, we just haven't heard much of them in the games.

Rivain is more like Galego than Portuguese really, maybe having different dialects like Antiva or something.

Tevene might be vulgar Latin, the little that I've heard in game does not seem to match up with silver Latin.

I thought people might speak some German in the the Anderfels? Weisshaupt, Kassel (there is a town in Germany that has the same name too), Hossberg, Lattenfluss...
These words sound very German, some of them are even legit words so..
The word "anders" means "different" in German, which I find quite funny as well (My friend used to say "Anders ist so anders" and it got on my nerves so bad
).

I... didn't know Arcanum was a thing. That's awesome.

'Anderling' is sometimes used for nonhumans in German (for instance, the German language version of The Witcher) or for 'alien' (as in E.T.'s) in Dutch.
Though I doubt anyone at BioWare knew that
