eh,this is the first topic I post here...ok I'll just cut the crap

Some guy told me that he can deal like 10K+ damage with twin fangs(critical). quote"with 30% ap and 50% crit chance, I can do 6k + 6k damage with twin fangs' normal hit, and with the debuff from my teammate such an blackwall's taunt, I can do 10k+ damage with one hit, plus my daggers are not masterwork, if they were, the damage would probably increase by another 10%  "

there must be something wrong, I call myself lucky if my twin fangs can deal 2k damage each hit. I have 70%+ ap and 50% crit chance and 120%+ crit dmg. so I really don't understand how this guy deals such ridiculous damage with twin fangs...Any ideas?

You don't need really need AP on gear, your abilities/passives can take of that. Stack flanking damage, crit damage, and attack, get the Pincushion passive from archery tree (works with DW), bring blackwall for To the Death (taunt that increases damage) and get him Cutting Words from vanguard tree (more taunt damage). Have a warrior with Horn of Valor. Those should spike up your damage pretty well. If you wanna go insane use offense flask and berserk MW (that can get you 1-shotted though).

I'm not completely sure if 10k is reachable, but here are some ways to maximize Twin Fangs damage:

  • Have the best daggers in the game (non-masterwork dual-curved blade crafted with dragonbone or at least t3 metal), with dense dual-blade grip (maximium offense slots)
  • Use rune which does max damage against preferred enemy type (so... non-elemental runes, dragon-slaying, demon-slaying, corrupting, or cleansing)
  • Craft for flanking damage or critical damage if possible
  • Be an assassin (for auto crit from stealth)
  • Attack from a flanking position, while in stealth
  • Use fully upgraded mighty offense tonic for another +100% critical damage

yeah, thanks for the insight. Now I see the possibility to reach damage I previously believed to be ridiculous, but I'm still not quite convinced that he can reaches 6k dmg on twin fangs' normal hit simply by stacking flanking, crit dmg and attack, without his teammate's buffs and debuffs. It could be that he exaggerated a little....anyway I'll try for myself.

You're welcome. Pincushion might surprise you if you haven't tried it on DW, it felt like a major boost when I started using it. Also turns throwing/spinning blades into de facto damage buffs. I personally like throwing blades since you dont need to take bad passives to get it, it has range and sunder guaranteed. Have fun.

6k+6k is definitely achievable, even solo.

Yup, I do it on my rogue without an optimized party anyways, no warhorn buff from a warrior. On any sundered enemy it's pretty easy, pump up crit damage and you're golden.

I land 6k+6k twin fangs and deathblows I've had the last hit strike for 9k plus a previous 5k.

Rogue damage is absurd, it just ruins any other class you play since they do so little damage by comparison.

so: weapon stats like flank attack, attack, AP, bleed, etc. all work with abilities?

Totally. I would go as far as saying it ruins other classes, but it sure makes you feel weak in comparison.

Daggers do waaaaay more damage than swords. Even those of the large variety.

but rogues cannot tank. and this makes tanks valuable.

it is normal that a well-timed hidden attack does more damage than a clumsy and obvious heavy attack. and dagger dps is high because of their speed

These all work with abilities, yes. Bleed is a weird one however, it actually applies a sunder effect (reducing armor). It's kinda useless in my opinion.

I'd say it ruins 2H warrior (and 2H Reaver especially) the most.

At least mages are ranged and have considerable crowd control

Tanks are tanks, combat is much easier with a tank (but not necessary, as shown by the multitude of solo mage and solo rogue NM runs)

After playing a dw assassin i find a reaver a poor crappier version of an assassin. He has less damage, less survivability and way more riskier than an assassin.
