I know there were limited Darkspawn engagements, and I realize we had a couple Pride Demons or so, but come on, it's not a Dragon Age game without an Ogre or two to fight.
I wanna stab some Ogres pls, DLC or somethin'.
Edit: Edited out my stupidity.

Uhm
Those guys.
Those are Ogres. It's what happens when Qunari darkspawn are "born", hence the size and the horns. There has never been any trolls in the DA games.

Ogres are born from broodmothers who were once female Qunari. The ogre's possession of horns stems from the fact that most Qunari are born with horns. Ogres have appeared in previous Blights, prior to the arrival of the Qunari at Par Vollen. This is believed to be the result of a colony of Kossith having settled in the southern Korcari Wilds before having been overrun by the darkspawn, resulting in the creation of the first ogres.

Blarg, you're right, Ogres, there aren't any Ogres in DA:I

We didn't see them this time due to them being rarely are they seen much outside of a Blight in general. Even when Hawke hit the Deep Roads during Act 1, it hadn't been that long since the Fifth Blight. There was some stragglers closer to the surface at that point. Now around 11 years has passed since the Blight ended, and the darkspawn has further dispersed. We didn't go that far into the Deep Roads either. So there wasn't really any reason to see them from a lore perspective.
The Blight is over and they can't fit through the tiny holes in the Storm Coast.

Yeah, I guess this is also the first DA where we haven't really gone Deep Roads exploring, man I miss that.

I'm one of the few that does as well. I keep hoping for a dwarven lore DLC, partially for that reason alone. ![]()
There wasn't a bandit that looked like an ogre that they could re-purpose into a darkspawn. =/
1 No Blight
2 you dont go to the Deep roads
3 Sandill has scared them all shitless.
Nightmare mode, I've fought 4 already and I basically just made it to skyhold on this save.
We also didn't see half the creatures that are in Inquisition in the first 2 games... Giants, rams, fennecs, quillbacks, phoenixes, etc.
Interesting how the hurlocks went from wielding longbows to having crossbows and are now back to longbows..
eh just go with it, if warriors can suddenly forget to use a second sword, or mages can be cut off from the part of the fade that deals with healing, then rams can flood the land.
What? DAO didn't have trolls. Or DA2.
They all came to BSN.

The cynic in me agrees with this. What fun is it when 90% of the enemies are just reskins of the same "fighter", "rogue" and "mage" types the poor PC gets stuck with? Yes, D&D games like BG1/2/etc generally does the same thing with human adversaries, but the class system there is more varied, and you had a truck ton of different monster types to deal with that had unique powers and abilities.

I think the new engine can do them justice. I just want the Deep Roads (for once) to be *roads*. Too often in both DAO and DA2 we were blocked and had to go through caves. Caves suck.
Oh man, this, can you imagine a whole Deep Roads "open world" map that's as big (or bigger!) than Hinterlands or the Hissing Wastes?! That would rock. (To me at least)

Just look at Valamar or whatever it was called in the Hinterlands. That was beautiful and it was just part of an above ground thaig.
You have no idea how irritated it made me that I couldn't get to the other parts of the thaig that you can see from those top three levels. I know you get to come back for a bit later, but I wanted more.
(Also, some actual dwarven items laying around might have helped. Blasted random leveled crap.)

Ok, It's official (for me) I want Dragon Age 4 to be Dragon Age: Legion where you play as Legion of the Dead/Grey Wardens hunting down the remaining Arch Demons and clearing the Deep Roads out completely. Unlock every thaig, reconnect the world's cities through the Dwarf Underground Super Highway. Stab lots of ogres in the face while you do it.
I was convinced that would lead to a deep roads quest the entire time. Especially Varric's personal quest.
And RNG is the devil. A feature I thought would be crap pre-release and is actually worse in practice.
I have on PT where in 100 hours I'm still using tier 1 mage arms/legs because I can't get lv 3 or 2 drops that use cloth instead of leather or metal.
I spent so much time actually trying to get down to those stairs you can see, because there was a third (blank) map that I thought might be an area I missed. It's just the tiny bit you unlock with the quest later, which was fairly disappointing.
DAO's place loot may have been boring, but it at least made sense most of the time. Dwarven loot in dwarven places. Elven stuff in elven places. Tevinter stuff in Tevinter ruins. I was going in hoping for some dwarven stuff every time I went into a ruin, only to be dashed time and time again. I finally found the stuff in the Hissing Wastes, but it's like a needle in a haystack.
If they have to persist with the crafting - what I'd rather have is alliance with a faction nets you their armor styles - or at least a merchant that lets you buy them. Perhaps a Dalish Inquisitor gets Dalish armor designs after reaching Skyhold, while a Dwarf gets the Carta stuff, etc.
My Qunari, about 70 hours in, still has the absurdly ugly heavy armor design and is pretty much in the same boat.
I love me some ogres in DAI. They're my favorite darkspawn enemy.
Make me think of this when people talking about ogre.
