Gotta say I disagree, I like the American accent. I think both are good in DAI actually.
And I really liked male sheps accent in the ME series xD
Different strokes for different folks. That's why they have 2 options, I am just lucky I enjoy both options ![]()
At first I really doubted anyone would use female voice with American accent. I chose the British one right away, and I kind of regretted they didn't give us a choice - one good female voice, one bad one, pretty clear which one you're going to use.
But since so many people are using the American accent for their female chars, maybe I was wrong.
I rather liked the American male voice. Fit my qunari well enough, and had pretty good range.
I don't care so much for the American female. Too flat in the delivery, I think.
I think Sumalee was top notch. Different folks different strokesI suppose. *shrug*
I agree. I went with the default American voice for my female Qunari.
Alix does a great reading for my Elf and Human.
But Sumalee's version seemed just a touch more serious which went very well with my Qunari.
I much prefer the male American voice to the British one.
Same here. It sounds manly. The British one sounds like a ****** to me. I'd never select that. Not unless they had Snape, lol. Not a fan of British accents for men.
If anybody remembers ME series you know how bad Male Shepherd voice was
Don't speak for others OP.
There's nothing bad about his voice, as ther's nothing bad about male Hawke's va and american VA in DAI. It's all a matter of perspective. And that's why we have a choice and should always have a choice.

Oh Maker. Why people like to judge everything by their own standards and so surprised when other people have a different view?
Eh the American male voice sounds more emotive and Sumalee really nails the sarcastic lines imo.
Pretty much this. Thanks for including a less girly voice with a sense for dry humour! ![]()
If by "bad" you mean "great". I know it's the popular thing on the internet to squee over FemShep's voice and decry MaleShep as bland and wooden, but I've always felt it was the inverse.
Although Hale's performance was good, I thought Meer delivered the better of the two in the series.
American male and British female for me. Honestly, Alix may have produced the definite performance for a PC since, well, since the beginning of voice acting in games.
I didn't like the british voice at all for men. American is fine.
Both are fine for female characters.
Haven't played female, but yes, I think the voice actors for the main character are terrible. I just can't stand their voices and depending on what race you play they sound really absurd. Their skills as a voice actor might be excellent, but the tone of their voice and just how it is...I don't like it at all. To be fair we can just skip through 90% of the time they talk and thats what I do. Makes it a lot better to me.
Both male voices are too soft and gentle...."Elven voices"
I think some peoples' perception of the quality of the voice acting might also be tied to the race of the character they picked.
Obviously seem people aren't going to care for the British male voice for example, if chosen for a Qunari. It does however perfectly suit a human noble or a Circle mage. Likewise the American female voice isn't going to fit a dainty elf or your female noble as well as it does a Qunari or a dwarf.
Unlike the fermale voices, I don't mind either for the male. Female though is a different story. Alix did such an amazing job, up there with Jo anmd her fantastic performance as Hawke that I can't even stomach the bland American voice option.
The British male accent sounds so effete - no thanks.
I used the American voice for my female noble because I wanted her to be a bit older. It works fine, though AWR is more emotive in the romance/ sobby lines. At first I really doubted anyone would use female voice with American accent. I chose the British one right away, and I kind of regretted they didn't give us a choice - one good female voice, one bad one, pretty clear which one you're going to use.

For me, the male American voice sounded fine, though it felt a bit forced sometimes. The male British voice was extremely grating and annoying the first time I heard it, but I've played a lot of human and elven characters and heard so many different aspects of the voice that it's now my favorite. For the female voices, I found the British female quite shrill and the American female too bland.
Lately I choose the British accent soley based on the American accent sounding completely bland. If anybody remembers ME series you know how bad Male Shepherd voice was. It's seems the same here to me. Am I the only one who thinks this way?
Bland you say? Hmm... Sounds like I have to try it then. I hate overacting.
Britain would be problematic for you then, lol.Same here. It sounds manly. The British one sounds like a ****** to me. I'd never select that. Not unless they had Snape, lol. Not a fan of British accents for men.

Ok, seriously--and not talking about just this post...what's this strange idea that British accents are effete? Is it that one voice is tenor and the other bass? Is it irritation that 75% of north american women have a pavlovian response to british accents? (totally made up statistic, but I bet it's right up there). What's the deal?
It's not really complicated, the guy just sounds like a ***** to me, lol. I'm not talking all british people, mind you. I wasn't satisfied with the British one in Origins either. It's too fanciful I guess. Look at my avatar. Does that look like a guy that would sound like that? Lol:

Granted, I did say I wasn't a fan of British accents for men as a sweeping statement, so my bad. I was just referring to what we've heard for the player characters though when it was a customizable option. Which has only been a grand total of two.
